@Zero A lot of SNES RPGs didn't sell well in the US, and gained popularity later on, which is part of the reason the cartridges have always been so expensive. I'd honestly never heard a single thing about FF VI before I played it meself, though that also in turn ended up being a good thing. I'd mainly just heard about FF IV (then II) and Chrono Trigger for SNES RPGs. This was like 2005 or so, maybe 2006. Things seemed to pick up after that, though part of it is that this is probably one of those things where a person doesn't really notice something until they experience it first, then they start seeing it. The world's a big place, it's pretty easy for two very different people to have had two very different experiences, makes sense to me. This is also why I had asked it as a question, not made a statement, so there's no reason to be getting all uppity, hee hee.

Byleth is live! THE MOST EXCITING DLC CHARACTER YET

Also, Cuphead costume?

I'm so excited by Bymennen that I'm going to play Rocket League tonight instead.

Haha, I like how forthright you've been about this character's inclusion.

I'm legit excited to play Byleth!

@TriforceBun

I feel how stepfathers must feel towards that one child of the woman they married that is seriously just a useless little brat. You try to be nice but there's always that internal voice saying things like "Go kick rocks, Byson. You're not as cute as you've been lead on to believe, and one of these days you're going to learn the hard way. Don't come asking for money for your heroin pills when that day comes, you little loser."

Maybe that voice is a bit harsh sometimes. I don't actually say that to Bylan, of course.

Anyway, I'm buying the next fighter pass right away. I am addicted to these character reveals, and the game is pretty fun too.

Byleth is cool. I like.

Do you miss classic Smash side-games like Break the Targets and Board the Platforms? Well, there's a halfway decent substitute now, thanks to the stage builder and one enterprising stage creator who made some puzzle platformer-ish obstacle courses for a handful of characters.

I tried these myself: very tough, but definitely fun. I manged to finish the Ike, Villager, and DK stages, but got absolutely nowhere with Pokemon Trainer. The goal is to reach the purple platform at the end.

Play using these rules:
30 HP
99 stock
Hide damage %
2P set to Jigglypuff (small portrait)
Items off

(For the best camera view, move 2P to the pink ground in the top left corner.)

Don't watch the videos if you don't want spoiled on how to complete the courses! You can download the stages by searching Smash's online content menu and entering the ID in the Youtube video title. (The Ike stage ID is outdated as of this post, but you can find the re-uploaded version by just searching for keyword "ike course" like I did. I wasn't able to find the Greninja course, unfortunately).

I kinda understand, with 80 characters, why they cut Break the Targets, but honestly Break the Targets was probably my favorite single-player element of Smash Brothers ever.

@J.K. Riki Agreed. I'd trade all the World of Lights and Smash Runs and Smash Tours and all that junk just to have character-specific Break the Targetses and Board the Platformses back again.

@nate38

Oh, that's awesome! I love stuff like this. How long'd it take you to download all the stages though!?
07/12/20, 01:52
@Secret_Tunnel A while, haha. Maybe 15-20 minutes? I kept searching "samus course" and "isabelle course" and whatever and eventually got them all.

It's weird that you can "follow" a creator, but you can't just view all their content.

100%'d... kind of. I beat World of Light in hard mode and used a hammer for all of the online Challenges. Still don't have all of the Spirits, but now I can play freely!.... After I get the rest of the Spirits.

World of Light was cool and a solid concept, but I still would've preferred a much more flexible/random Smash Run.

I assume that I have all of the music after beating WoL and all of the Challenges? Music hasn't shown up in my Store for a loooong time.

Nintendo just shadow-dropped the Version 8.1.0 update! Not a lot here, but a few very small surprises.

Weirdly, they added a "new" stage: Small Battlefield, which is pretty much just Battlefield without the top platform. You can have this two-platform version of Battlefield set as your Quickplay preferred stage, too.

Also, you can now choose any music when fighting on Final Destination or any of the Battlefield stages. (You can only do this when choosing the stage: the My Music choices are still limited to the various Smash theme tunes)

Finally, vague improvements to Online stuff, including "The way matching is determined when using Preferred Rules has been adjusted." Maybe Zero can get more opponents with his preferred rules now?

Sakurai says that Small Battlefield is better for competitive play!

"By the way, the response in the 1on1 online match may be slightly better.
Please try..."

MAYBE!

I almost feel like over time the opposite would be true though. The less players you have playing, the less likely you will find the perfect matches.

Kazuya! That presentation yesterday was cool. Tekken deserves its spot on the roster, and the amount of love put into that character is awesome. Neat Mii costumes too.
06/30/21, 03:34
@Secret_Tunnel

I gotta download Kazuya. And I might bite on the Shantae Mii costume.

Also, I just realized Kazuya can spell Yakuza if you rearrange the letters.
06/30/21, 15:00
Yeah, it's kind of insane how many moves Sakurai squoze into Kazuya with only two buttons. He's really been going all out on the DLC characters.

All to set the stage for Rad Spencer, whose bitching bionic arm will rock the meta to usher in the new Bionic Commando game!
