Just got to the second dungeon.

The music in this remake is really excellent.

I said I wasn't going to buy it since I've played it so many times... but then I wanted it, so I did. It's a very beautiful, faithful remake. I'm jealous of the people who are playing it as complete virgins.

Only downside is the icky bad framerate. I usually shrug when I hear people complaining about the difference between 60FPS and 30FPS, as I'm not usually very sensitive to the issue... but it's really quite jarring here with the costant drops. Hopefully they improve it with a patch, but I'll likely have played through the game entirely by then.

I also have 0% interest in the Dampe Dungeon Reshuffler business. I tried that for about 8 minutes and then was all "Nope. Not touching this rubbish ever again as long as I live." Not for me... but it's just a bonus, so its inclusion certainly isn't a bad thing. I didn't buy this game for this feature anyway.

I love LA but I'm so familiar with the source material (and play it fairly regularly) that I'm gonna hold off on this one, at least for a little while. It does look and sound great though.

I have never played LA, so this will be my first go at it. However, I've only put about 3hrs into Astral Chain, so I want to work on that game first. I'll get LM3, and will get my boys Pokemon for Christmas, so maybe Santa still get this one for me then.

Totally agreed, I never care about this sort of stuff at all but I was shocked when the first thing you're greeted with after leaving that opening house is the constantly jittering town, which has been the worst area I've encountered so far. You'd think that would be the place they'd put the most effort into getting right!

The game also looks a little more low-res than most Switch games? I can see pixels around the edges of a lot of the objects.

But it's still a great game and I can't wait to play more of it, the sword feels great!

I'm enjoying this even more now that I'm further into it! And, more than anything, I'm enjoying that my friends are enjoying playing through it for the first time.

Beat it last night. Loved it.

I've never been one to be into remakes and re-releases, though this also isn't one of my fave Zelda games (though it's still very good). Since this remake is almost exactly the same outside of graphics and more buttons, it doesn't interest me. If it ever gets added to the Nintendo Selects line or something like that, I might get it then.

I played this for the first time on... the 3DS? and was surprised by how awesome it was. It's the closest thing to the best Zelda game evar, Link to the Past, outside of Link to the Past!

Of course, it is its own thing too.

@Zero

Takashi Tezuka directed both of these games... and Takashi Tezuka is the true best video game director to ever live.

But A Link Between Worlds, though.

I’m in the same boat as Tbun. Might get this game for my mom though, since she’s never played the original. In fact, her only 2D Zelda is Minish Cap. So this would be a pretty good introduction.

I do wonder if something is lost in the switch from 2D to 3D. Both are very charming, but in different ways. So, audiovisually, this feels more like a reimagining than a remake. I can’t really say which is better, because they feel so different. There’s stuff I like more about each version. The simple GBC graphics have a unique appeal, but I love being able to see the bigger picture of Koholint in the remake (rather than being confined to one screen at a time).

Just finished the game! Huh, the ending is much more abrupt than I remembered; they really don't dwell too much on what's happening!

I really enjoyed the dungeons in this, they took a lot of thought and were fun. Loved the Eagle's Tower.

@Secret_Tunnel

Abruptly, yes, as it always is from these kinds of dreams. Link's final thoughts are of Marin and then there's a sudden rush of fluid that carries Link back to consciousness. This is a selfless adolescent boy who has been far too busy saving the world to stop and take the time to discover masturbation. Marin and the Owl/WindFish are projections of the anima/animus figures from Link's very unconscious mind. They are guiding him to his first ejaculation, which also happens to save his life. He wakes up on his raft to a calm sea, the nightmares finally over with this newfound gift of release. He should only have to think of Marin and it's real again. The hero's dignity is spared since his tunic is already wet.

This is Link's Sexual Awakening from a nocturnal emission. It's a profound and beautiful story.

@Hinph
I used to think Link's Awakening had the best story in the series. Now I know for sure.

I know I'm very late to this particular party, but DANG is this game great! It oozes charm and creativity in ways I don't know if I've ever seen out of Nintendo, lol. Different times, I guess. And it is just fun to play, I never feel bored or like it is losing that charm. I love the phone booth that lets you know where to go next, if you need it. A few puzzles I had to look up just because I was totally stuck, but some I figured out and got that wonderful "Aha" feeling from.

I liked the clean look of the style when they debuted it, but I wasn't really a fan of it overall. Just felt odd. But PLAYING it the whole package fits together so well I can hardly imagine it in any other art style. Plus this puppy is going to hold up for decades and still look incredible, I wager. Brilliant stuff.

@J.K. Riki

Did you play LA on the Game Boy? It's a game that was truly ahead of its time.
07/31/20, 23:33
@TriforceBun

I did not. I only really got into Zelda with Wind Waker. Prior to that I liked the art and world generally, but never played them much. (Except the original, of course.)

One thing I like about this remake so far is it feels like I can manage in the world. ALTTP for example felt huge and sprawling (plus had the castle and Dark World). This one feels manageable. Even the original felt like a really overwhelming world/map.

EDIT: Maybe that's why I never liked OoT but did like WW. The world in WW was broken into islands, and the water between didn't feel overwhelming. Where as when I was walking to and then into Death Mountain in OoT I just felt it was too much.

@J.K. Riki

Glad you're enjoying LA Switch so much then; it's a very faithful remake in the sense that it's almost a tile-for-tile accurate game world! The item switching is tightened up and obviously it looks and sounds lovely, but the gameplay and world design are very similar to how it was in 1993. Even the dialogue is like 98% identical! Pretty impressive that it's a full-price game from 2019! One of the reasons why LA has always been an upper-tier Zelda game for me.

@nate38

I don't remember typing any of that, but damn if I didn't just convince myself that this game is pure art in addition to being a finely crafted masterpiece of game design.
