T-t-triple post! I don't care, I'm late to this party and I feel like talking about the game as I go. :P
I've been taking my sweet time playing through Hollow Knight and generally finding it a ton of fun. It is a bit on the hard side, for me, and I've been a little frustrated. It is really painful to die some far-off spot that was hard to get to the first time, let alone a second time! That is annoying. I guess it makes dying "mean" something, but it has made me occasionally not even want to play, and that's not great. But that's the design choice they made, so I guess it is what it is. I do wish there was an easy mode or something, because I want to experience the cool world but some of the more challenging bits have made me wary.
A part of me wishes this game was shorter, because I feel like I've been playing a long time and I still have a whole game ahead of me. I suppose I'm not used to this sort of length anymore, now that I play so many shorter titles. Of course there was a time I would have loved how deep and long Hollow Knight is.
The art and sound and character design remains astounding, no matter how much I play. I hate some of the really dark areas (Greenpath was my favorite so far) but the spots that aren't so dark you can't even see where you're jumping are fun. I was working on lore for our next Weekend Panda game and I realized someone sat and wrote all the bits in the Creatures section of the game, so I am going to go read them all because it is hard work to write all that stuff, ha ha.
Anyway, still chugging through, and while some of the shine has worn off, it is still a fun experience. |
