@Zero In Melee, using the C-stick didn't allow you to charge smash attacks, you had to use the left stick + A for that. Since Brawl and beyond however, it's been changed to where the right stick now allows you to charge, so there is no longer a difference.
@Mop it up Ah that makes sense, so I WAS right that they were weaker in Melee (since they couldn't be charged), but now they are the same. Hmm. No reason to do it the other way then!
Ah yeah I remember now. It was weaker in Melee. It's been forever since I played that so I've completely forgotten. I didn't even remember it had an air dodge like Ultimate.
Yeah, I was impressed with how much it felt like playing Castlevania! Classic Mode is great. From the handful I've done, Mega Man has some great callbacks as well.
@TriforceBun Totally. Playing that part made me want a collab between the two companies to bring us a Switch game that looks like that, and plays like old school Castlevania. Ish. Haven't unlocked Mega Man yet! Need to get on that.
Oh, so like... unlocking characters gets more difficult as you go, huh? My Pikachu shenanigans aren't working anymore on these clever girls. This shit is straight tough. Like, I want to give a copy of this game to my brother next week for his birthday, but he's not going to be good enough to be able to do this and will hate the game as a result. :(
You have to turn off up jumping, otherwise you will keep relying on it. Cut that cord!
I think you're right!
(By the way, my idea was stupid as it was the first thing I tried today and it essentially counts as two jumps, so you don't get a second jump...)
Going to start trying B-reverses and B-turnarounds to try and combat the landing lag. I've seen people say Smash 4 was worse in this regard, but I've never smashed in the wrong direction as often as I have in Ultimate so far. Something else to try tomorrow...
It takes some patience. I’m really glad there is that challenger approach mode - cause you can end beating classic mode with a character like Donkey Kong and then get forced into challenging someone super fast that fires projectiles. Doing that running thing saves time and gives you more chances to beat them.
@ Zero Ok I went to the jump button in 4 but couldn’t handle it. You don’t use a jump button in games like Street fighter - im just used to pressing up. I use a Cube controller - what button to you use for jumping?
Huh, so there's no way to upload replays to Youtube or Twitter yet? That stinks. Also seems like you can't save video using the system's built-in share function, either. So as far as I can tell there's no way to share your replays at all. I'm assuming that's a feature that's on the way considering Wii U could do it, but I don't think Sakurai ever mentioned it in a Direct so who knows.
@Smerd I've just been using X to jump. I definitely get what you're saying, part of why I have used up to jump for so long is I'm just used to Street Fighter. But Street Fighter doesn't have stuff you fall off if you miss a perfectly timed jump!
Online seems to be improving. I got nothing but 1v1 tonight (my room requests) and played about 10 games, reminded me of the good times with 3DS/Wii U. I also was reminded of that sweet, sweet rage from losing several games in a row...!
We had a lot of fun Smashing last night! Me, Nate, Carlos and Paul! They're all better than me even though Carlos decided I'm a hustler or something because I eventually won one or two matches.
Where is everyone! Let's get more NW Smash sessions going!
On another note, World of Light is pretty awesome but some of the battles are like next to impossible to win without exploiting the system or getting lucky. I had one last night which was a super large Charizard who always has spicy curry on. I couldn't even get near him without getting destroyed. Like seriously played it over and over and the most percent I even got him to was around 30% or so. UNTIL... he got caught off the side of the stage near fire and kept flying right into the fire over and over until he killed himself. W... win?
Oh yeah, the Ho-Oh fight. Piece of garbage! What I did was skip that one until a bit later, when I won the Anna (Mother 1) fight elsewhere and unlocked her spirit, which lets you start the battle with a Franklin Badge. Suddenly, Charizard's curry is working to your benefit!
Didn't know we were doing friend rooms! Is there an easier way to do that than by telling people outside of the game that you're online or whatever?
