Bandai Namco picked the absolute WORST release date for this game and then just kind of dumped it out there without letting much of anyone know it exists. But if you missed the Katamari Damacy craze the first time around I implore you to try it out, there is nothing else quite like Katamari Damacy in the world. Visually, musically, story, gameplaywise... it's a wild ride! One of my all-time favorite games!

It has a demo on the eShop if you want to check it out.

Will be ordering an import copy of the game tonight.

Never played the original game at all, but have listened the hell out of the soundtrack, and always wanted a Wii port back in the day. Not gonna miss this chance!

Speaking of importing, I spotted an Asian (including. Eng., I think) version of that badass Kunio-kun Collection on Play-Asia. Only $35!

The demo is so short! I've never played a KD game before and it's hard to tell if it would get more addictive as it progresses. I do enjoy the Japanese exuberance of it all...

I might check it out, but I'm not sure. While I didn't try it myself, I remember a friend having the game back on PS2 and watching a little bit of it. It's certainly a funny concept, but it didn't really seem that fun to play, and I'm not sure it's my brand of weirdness. Maybe if it gets cheap.

@Infinitywave @Mop it up I almost wrote this into the OP and then didn't, but I remember not being super into it until it clicked after like 20 or 30 minutes. At first it's just kind of like ok this is interesting but what is the point?

I forget how much content the main game has but I think you can "beat" the whole game in like 6 or 7 hours. But it's totally a high score game! Go for the best times! Lots of replayability.

Of course, there aren't any leaderboards so you're really just playing against yourself. BUT... I'm pretty sure we had a thread on NW for best times. BUT... that was probably on the old version of the site since I can't find it and the game came out in 2004 and our oldest post now is 2008.

Still, I'd still highly recommend it.

I remember playing this on a PS2 demo disk way back in the day and being disappointed that is was about 10 minutes of cutscenes and 5 minutes of getting to roll around, which I loved. Finally played a re-release a few years ago and really enjoyed it, I felt like I had my perfect fill by the time I'd beaten it.

Soundtrack is great.

Seriously, why the hell does anybody release a game on the same day as Smash? Go home. Don't even try it.

I'll pick Katamari up later down the line. I very seriously don't want to buy any more video games for awhile. This madness must stop.

The demo is one level. WHY? That seems so stupid. It takes longer to read the intro text than to PLAY THE DEMO.

Sigh.

Anyway, doesn't matter to me because I was buying this for sure regardless. I nearly did flips when it was announced. Yes, Smash Brothers will take my time for now, but I am getting Katamari for sure down the road. Maybe in January or February when the Smash hype has died down a little. It is a must-own, and the only reason I still have a PS2. (I will probably sell the PS2 when I buy this remake, too.)

EDIT: For the folks who never played the original and wonder if it will be long-term fun, I would say that this game somehow only gets MORE fun the more you play. Hence why a one-level demo is so dumb. But anyway, I highly recommend this wonderful game, to any and all. It's a joy.

Katamari in Smash. Think about it.

I adore Katamari. But I've heard about this game a whopping 2 times before it came out. Once from some rando on twitter when it was announced, and again from a twitter rando reminding people to buy the game when smash comes out. For shame, Namco.

Is it me, or does it seem like sometimes publishers create self-fulling prophecies for what can and can't succeed?

Yeah I think the short demo might be counterproductive. Thanks Zero and J.K. for the recommendation I'll watch out for it getting a discount.

One of my favorites on the PS2 along with We <3 Katamari. Very much a sit back and relax game though it can get pretty challenging for some of the later missions.

Ha! I loved the original from however many years ago that was. Would definitely be interested in a sequel.

I just picked this up the other day on a whim. It was one of the last two copies in the store!

@GameDadGrant
And perhaps one of the first two, as well!
