So this just came out for Switch and is a pretty fantastic title so far that I haven't really seen anyone talk about here so why not have a thread to bring it to people's attention a bit more? I'm sure that some may pass up on it for now due to being just a Super Meat Boy clone and while it does play similarly, it definitely has a lot more going for it with an involved story, fun characters, creepy and hard hitting themes that I just did not expect. And that soundtrack is so, so good. But back to its gameplay, it's a bit more open in design while still remaining fairly linear but rather than have small set pieces, it's a bigger level with challenge rooms chained together while keeping the exploration aspect for those that want to hunt down for secrets/optional challenges. It never really feels like the game is unfairly hard though and its controls are tight and precise, making overcoming its difficulty a rewarding and fun experience. So check it out if you haven't done so already! And if you have, talk about it here! URL to share (right click and copy)

Welp, got to the credits. As Big G says above there were some pretty wild parts in that last stretch, but nothing that felt undoable. Overall I'd say... I loved the game! Storywise I feel like it actually resonated with me pretty closely. I won't talk about it too much here but it took on an important thing and did it well. It's interesting to me too seeing an "action" game that blends the story with the game concept and gameplay, something I'm trying to do with my game as well, so it's a bit inspiring. Gameplay was great too. Lots of variety, and just tough enough to push me without feeling too over the top difficult. Small thing though, I really wish the harder stages would just unlock automatically after finishing the main game. I get that it is "secret" stuff but they have to know that most people will just go online and look it up, just feels like an added annoyance to me. Might even keep me from doing it, I know I could probably do it pretty quickly, but it feels like an extra unnecessary step that is a bit of a barrier. We'll see. /EDIT. Nevermind, I just used IGN's guide and got all the tapes, it only took about a half hour. But I guess there are also the crystal hearts to find? And they unlock the mountain core? I haven't found like any of those. Guide for that. |
