E3 2018 Predict-a-ton!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! E3! Nintendo has been quite free to share big news throughout the year ever since Iwata started the Nintendo Directs, but E3 still packs a major news punch! Last year I hosted the Negative World E3 Predict-a-ton and with alignment from InfinityWave, I’m doing so again this year! Let’s do this!

How To Play:
========================

Here are four sets of statements. Pick all of them you think will come TRUE. (choose as many as you like eg. A3, A6, B5, C9, D10…)

Make your choices in a prudent manner! Each category is more valuable but also becomes increasingly risky. A correct pick means you WIN those points. An incorrect pick means you LOSE those points. This means you might even end up with a negative score, but you may just succeed with the highest total instead!

Please post your predictions by the end of June 11th. It proves to vote early though as any statements that are confirmed ahead of the presentation will be locked and no-longer viable for new pickers.

This one's obvious but NO editing. Your initial vote is your final vote, so make it count!

For the purposes of this challenge, ALL information that comes out during the course of the show will be taken into account. That includes the Digital Event, Treehouse streaming, press meetings, online news... everything that happens before the doors close at the end of Day 3.

Yeah, if reusing stuff that doesn't need to be rebuilt saves development time, I see it only as a positive. I didn't catch that it's running on Unreal now though. I do remember that Miyamoto quote about how Nintendo has mastered using it. Interesting indeed!

Do we know the developer yet? Probably still Namco?
06/12/18, 20:22
@Hinph
Not sure what the video said about developer. I could imagine it being Sora and Nintendo alone this time considering so much of the groundwork has already been done. I'm kind of happy they're recycling some stuff, 'cause I was a bit worried they'd work Sakurai to death with a new Smash.
06/12/18, 20:32
There have been signs Namco is still helping develop it, but it hasn't been made official.
06/12/18, 20:37
Man, I'm bummed we didn't see Retro's game or Mario Maker 2. I would have bet high on both of those things happening. Hope everything is okay at Retro.
06/12/18, 20:46
@Hinph

And no Yoshi either, which is strange since it was playable last year. Weird!
06/12/18, 20:56
@Hinph
There's still the odd chance of Nintendo announcing something during the Treehouse Live hours.
06/12/18, 20:56
@r_hjort Refresh my memory, has this happened in the past?
06/12/18, 21:16
@Mop it up
I think they've done a few, but the only one I can remember is Samus Returns on 3DS.
06/12/18, 21:24
Guess it makes sense that it's just a smaller year for Nintendo after a massive 2017. There's plenty to play on the Switch, so it's all good.
06/12/18, 21:35
It's apparently official that Bamco is developing Smash. Also: Fortnite on Switch supports voice chat in the just-plug-a-headset-into-your-Switch kind of way. No cumbersome Nintendo bullshit required. Nice.

Oh yeah, Yoshi is no longer set for 2018 and won't be making an appearance during this E3, but we'll get updates later this year. Disappointing.

Too lazy to link, but you'll just have to take my word for it when I say that I found all this info on GoNintendo. Now: Back to Jet Set Radio on Dreamcast!

I can go into details later but I am heavily considering this a new game per my intentions on the game.

New characters, stages, mechanics, and assist trophies are the start. They've tweaked a ton too. This is not just a Wii u and 3ds mix like people suspected.
06/12/18, 22:04
@DrFinkelstein
Bill Trinen said pretty much the same thing. The core mechanics have been tweaked, movement, speed and stuff like that, on top of the new characters, attacks, stages and such, so that's why he's considering it a new game.
06/12/18, 22:05
@r_hjort I can't say I'm surprised about Yoshi, since the last one took a long time too. Yoshi's Woolly World was first shown way back in January 2013, but its initial release wasn't until June 2015. It still turned out fine though, so it isn't a bad sign.

@Mop it up
Agreed, but I'm still disappointed since I liked Woolly World so much.

EDIT: In other news, Splatoon 2's Octo Expansion is coming tomorrow.

@DrFinkelstein

It is a new game in my eyes as well. If it was the Wii U version, it would just have added in the missing characters and that would be that. There is enough different about it to warrant "Smash 5" in my eyes, frankly. That they all have brand new Final Smashes, for example, and that movesets have changed. Gannondorf has a sword! :P
06/13/18, 01:29
Yeah, my vote goes for considering it as a new game too. It's running on a new engine and enough has been added and tweaked even if it wisely recycles content that doesn't need to be rebuilt. It's obviously much more than a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe situation where some fans could consider passing on it.

@r_hjort

It is?! That's a neat surprise!

If they didn't mine rare Earth metals and build their own processors with wholly original opcodes it isn't a new game
06/13/18, 16:53
I did not predict-a-ton this year. Ouch...

@J.K. Riki

Yo girl Daisy is in it too.
06/13/18, 16:58
@TriforceBun

Sure is, Skip!

Also a new (REAL, HOPEFULLY GOOD) Daisy amiibo. I hope they get someone to do her justice there. Not a generic pose. Give her some of the CHARACTER she has. She's got sass, and that needs to be in there. This is the worst amiibo pose ever:

Edited: 06/13/18, 17:22
@J.K. Riki

If the new lineup of amiibo are like the initial Smash 4 set, the poses would be based off their in-game art. In Daisy's case, it'd be this one. Sakurai generally does a great job capturing the essence of the characters in Smash; I was pleased by how brutal Ridley was.
