Not sure if want. Who is developing?

These two titles were announced (and MM11 shown off) during Capcom's Mega Man 30th Anniversary stream.

Personally, I'm glad Mega Man 11 is generous with the screen space and appears to keep the rather methodical pace of classic Mega Man. And the sidescrolling 3D visuals are much nicer than, say, Mighty No. 9. I am a little bummed that there isn't an immediate "wow factor" to it, as it looks very much like old-school Mega Man with a new coat of paint, but maybe they're saving any new innovations for later trailers.

What do you think?

The Mega Man 11 trailer doesn't feature any company logos aside from Capcom and the platform holders at the end, so that seems to be a sign that it's an internal development. Literally the only info we have on the X Collection is that it will have the 8 main X games, so who knows. I imagine Capcom has hired an external emulation/port company like they did for the first two Classic collections.

Watch out for the wording, Mega Man X may not be a collection. Look at the wording: could be separate releases.

@nate38
Good point, it's probably an internal team working on 11. When I first saw the thread title I started hoping for an Inti Creates production with 8-bit graphics, because even though I know a lot of people are sick of that sort of thing, that's what Mega Man is to me. The basic Mega Man style, sans slide and charge shot and all that jazz.

This doesn't look bad, but like you say, there's not anything that wows me at this point. I'm happy it's coming to Switch though, so I'll keep an eye on it for sure!

@Guillaume Yeah I keep seeing "collection" in all these articles but they also don't cite anything that confirms it. Editing now.

The live-stream is still going as of now, at this link. Showing off design stuff for Mega Man 11 at the moment.

That's cool news! This doesn't look like it will be for me, because I have had enough classic Megaman with MM1-5 to last me... well, all my life probably. But I love the MMX series, so if there's a collection of all of those? I'll be on that like Donkey Kong on rice.

Also it's probably my inner 2D-animator but the visuals and animation to this look atrocious to me. Like a fan game, and not even a well made one. This is 2017 (soon to be 18) so if you want to make a AAA side scroller, it had better look at least as good as:

@r_hjort Haha, cool. I'll edit that into the title too then.

Can't say I'm super excited about the graphical change. I dunno.

@r_hjort Hopefully Inti Creates.

Well, even if I am picky about this and that, I do consider myself a fan of Mega Man so I'm very happy to see all this Capcom support right now. Here's hoping this is a sign of Capcom going all in on the Switch in general. I'd buy a portable Resident Evil 7 twice. Well, not really. But once! I'd buy it real good and proper!

EDIT: @Zero
Yeah, but like Nate pointed out there's no mention of another developer in the video. Oh well, we can hope!

Hey, he's back! While the audiovisual stuff is a bit on the chunky side, I'm excited for more Mega Man, and thank goodness the Switch didn't get abandoned by Capcom again. I would've preferred sprites and/or stylized pixel work, but with a strong enough design that stuff shouldn't matter too much. The segmented miniboss felt pretty nostalgic too in the way he looked.

I'm less interested in the X games since I have those on the GCN and as far as I'm concerned, only the first few are worth playing. Anyone here played X7 and X8? I haven't tried them but I don't hear great things. X6 was one of the worst games I've ever played!

@r_hjort
This is pretty cool too!

@TriforceBun I tried a bit of of X8. It was quite bad. The intro stage was merely underwhelming, but then the first three boss stages I chose all had some awful gimmick to them. One was an ugly Star Fox clone, another was a shitty racer, and the only actual platforming stage of the three was a weird gravity switching puzzle where doing the wrong thing would crush you instantly. As bad as X6 was, at least it was a bad Mega Man game and not some decrepit genre Frankenstein like what I played of X8.

@TriforceBun

Ah, I only played the first few X games and I loved them. Sad to hear the others aren't great. I'd still probably buy the collection at a reasonable price, just because I adore X1 and 2 that much.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

mega man is oen of my most favoritest things of all time. this makes me so so so so happy!!! ahhhhhhhhh

It's not Legends 3, but this is still quite nice to see. Also, I really hope that the X collection will have the Super NES version of X3 and not the later versions that have the awful arranged soundtrack. X3 is just about ruined with the arranged OST.

@TriforceBun I haven't played X8, but I played X7 at release. It's been awhile, but I remember enjoying it. It's not as good as the early X games of course, but I feel like it kind of gets an undeservedly bad reputation. It has its issues, but I think Capcom did a pretty decent job of adapting Mega Man X-style gameplay into 3D. I also like how the stages will go back and forth between 2D and 3D segments; I don't remember too many other games at the time (2003) which were fitting both 2D and 3D gameplay into the same game.

The overall visuals don't bother me that much...but man. That running animation? Ugh. Terrible. C'mon Capcom. You can do better than that.

:')

I thought there wasn't a thread here and I was about to rage at y'all.

Megaman 11 could stand to look a little better but I'm still really pleased with its existence and general art style.

So so glad it wasn't another 8bit game. It worked for MM9 but I lost interest in 10. Never played 10 honestly.

That's what happens when you mindlessly in-between something. It is likely the same general run of the 8-bit games, BUT those games had limited frames. So maybe you have an animation that consists of:

X - X - X - X

and it repeats, and it works. BUT if you stick more frames in there, blindly, it becomes:

X - Y - Y - X - Y - Y - X - Y - Y - X - Y - Y

and turns into mushy, awful mess. I agree, Capcom should know better. They are too big and experienced to let something like that happen.

@J.K. Riki How far did you get? I only played up to X4, which was decent but the changes they made to it from the SNES style turned me off a lot.

A good alternative to the bad X games are the Zero / ZX games or the Azure Striker Gunvolt games. Though none of those really top X at its best.

I did kind of hope that Capcom's next "retro revival" would be an SNES style X game that did for X what 9 did for the original series. Ah well.
