Ah!! Super surprise! Well, I'm excited for fans, and for the health of the console in general because this is a great "get" for Nintendo. I definitely wish I was a fan of the series, what I played of the first was so much fun gameplay wise. Just couldn't stomach the overall evil/antihero and cursing and stuff. Didn't feel good playing, so I quit and sold the Wii U version I bought. Same way when I tried God of War back in the day.

Alas!

Hmm, maybe in Bayonetta 3 she turns good-guy and takes down all the evil folks.

She was good in 2? I think? I don't remember what exactly the story was. Though she did fight both heaven and hell. But they were both being huge jerks!

I've only played 2 and it's not my favorite series or anything but it was fun enough that I'm interested in another one.

Man, the Switch just won't let up. Good stuff.

The male gaze in the Bayonetta games is tiresome, but the action is damn solid and I love the enemy designs. I'm particularly fond of their angel designs with their Lovecraftian eyes and tentacles behind innocent looking cherub faces and all that.

Surprise of the night! Bring on more Bayo, baby!

Good on Nintendo for keeping this going! It's probably not a huge money-maker for them but it helps round out their line-up.

Freaking awesome. I love character action games! The (not really) hits just keep on coming!

I would imagine that with the Switch's immense success and her exposure in Smash that this game will be far more of a success than the other two. At least I certainly hope so. It deserves it, that's for sure, as the first two games are among the best action titles I've played.

Huh. Didn't notice this before even though it probably should be obvious to anyone watching the clip, but Bayonetta seems to get torn to pieces at the end there. Intredasting.

I dunno, didn't the last one on Wii U almost sell a million copies or something? And that was on WII U!

@J.K. Riki One million copies is considered a huge failure for big budget AAA gaming nowadays.

I think. Sort of?

Keep in mind that 2 ended up on Nintendo platforms precisely because they couldn't find anyone else willing to publish it, despite the first one selling 1.35 million and being Platinum's best selling game at the time.

I don't think Bayo 2 sold a million though? I can't find any numbers, but everything I'm reading says super disappointing sales. Although Nintendo must have been happy with it enough to make a 3rd.

It'll be interesting to see how well Switch software like this sells next to comparable Wii U software. In theory Bayonetta 3 should sell way more, but will it?

I'm hoping that Nintendo hasn't ditched the Iwata years' habits of releasing games because they believe in them as good games, and not only focusing on the sales numbers (even though that obviously is a factor because capitalizums). Maybe they consider the act of supporting a niche fanbase to be profitable in the long term as a PR move (and arguably for the creative climate in the industry, if they care about that sort of thing).

As for the Bayo 2 numbers, the only source I can find claiming it sold a million is VGChartz, but they're not known for being reliable.

Good on Nintendo for giving the franchise another shot.

I had to roll my eyes at Reggie though.

*Shows off Bayonetta 1+2 Remaster
Geoff: oh cool, Bayonetta 2 on Switch
Reggie: Geoff, you didn’t think I came all this way just to show that off did you?

Yeah Reggie, I kinda did. One time I remember you coming on to just show Cranky Kong. Good on you for actually bringing new stuff this time.

@Zero

Do they give numbers, or just say "super disappointing?" Because I probably have a different view of super disappointing than they do, and I bet Platinum Games agrees, ha ha. One million copies sold is a bummer for SOME devs and publishers, but I don't think that applies to Nintendo and Platinum. Not only for the reasons mentioned above, but also because apart from standouts like Pokemon, Nintendo's mid-range heavy hitters generally pull those sorts of numbers, and they still get support and sequels. Heck, Metroid Prime 2 only sold around 1 million I believe, and it was amazing and got its sequel (and now, another). None of the Xenoblade games ever even reached a million, and thank goodness that didn't stop them from continuing! :)

Anyway, point being merely that Nintendo doesn't subscribe to the same drunk-standards of EA or Activision or whatever. They know quality, and if something does decently well, we often see them continue the franchise. As far as a million-seller being a money maker or not, that I guess I can't say. I don't have their internal figures and accounts. (I am rather of the opinion that if you sell 1,000,000 copies of a full retail game and don't make money, you are doing something quite poorly somewhere along the development road... Something has gone wrong.)

Interesting things to consider, nevertheless! I'm glad regardless of B1 and B2 sales, they are trying again on Switch. I hope it does well for them, because whether I like the games or not, there's no denying it's a high-quality product. Great when that sort of dedication and work is rewarded!

I won't fuck with her. Ignoring these with a 10 foot pole.

I only fuck with her when I beat her ass and the SCUM that use her in Smash.

Oh, I loved Reggie's arrogant line there. Exactly my sense of humor, haha.

What have you got against Bayonetta? I mean, there are reasons to dislike the games, but what's yours?

It almost feels like the opposite of stuff I like. It's my enemy.

Mostly it's about the tone. And how loud it is. I want to like it, but I can't.

Ah, I can see that. Bayonetta 2 in particular is overly loud and obnoxious at times, especially that Joe Pesci soundalike character that keeps screaming "fuck" at everything and nothing. I curse like a motherfucker, so it doesn't offend me or anything, but it feels creatively lazy and misguided. That and Bayonetta's forced sexiness feel like a 13-year-olds idea of what's cool. But there's also a lot of really neat stuff underneath all that.
