Rocket League for the Nintendo Switch is now available! This isn't just a weird soccer with flying cars game. Well...it is, but it can be much more than that! There's unlockable content, numerous arenas, modes, training, ranked battle, and cross play with Xbox and PC players! Nintendo exclusive content is also being made available.

@Zero Have you tried both Casual and Competitive online? Is there a notable difference between the two?
11/20/17, 05:15
@nate38 This is VERY anecdotal but my previous experience was on casual, tonight I played competitive for an hour or two and it seemed to match me up with people at my level much more consistently. There were still a few blowouts here and there but I'd say my final record was around 50 / 50 for the night. Lots of close games. Much more enjoyable.

Makes me wonder what the matchmaking algorithms are. Like, was this just an anomaly, or does playing on the competitive mode really match you with people at your level better? If so, why would that be the case? You'd think casual would try to match at your level too.

Sorry about the team situation last night, Zero. I don't know what happened there.

I got my first loot crate, but I ain't paying for no keys.

@ludist210 I invited you to a party and then I instantly made you the leader of the party, maybe that got things all messed up somehow.

@Zero

No worries. I'll try to pop on again tonight, maybe we can try again.

As you go along and collect items you'll run into those poor lost souls that want to trade. They'll literally trade keys for stuff you received for free. lol

A new patch for the Switch is available today!

Most importantly for me is that they adjusted the world detail to improve average resolution in Handheld Mode.

Now if only we could easily share our video highlights...

The physical version of Rocket League is releasing on January 16th for NA. Unfortunately, due to the higher cost of Switch game cards, it will be priced at $39.99 instead of the $29.99 as other platforms.

This is one aspect of the N64 I didn't want the Switch to have...!

I've been playing this a ton. We definitely need to set up a day / time to play together.

Tiny, inconsequential gripe... I don't like that when using the Nintendo cars you can't really add / change anything. I suspect Nintendo forced this as part of the deal for the cars but I want to customize my Samus mobile!

This game is 25% off right now. If this had local multi (I miss the days of games having split screen) I'd buy it, but I just don't see myself putting much time into it.
12/19/17, 21:18
@cooliocuneo Doesn't it have split-screen? The PC version does, so I'd think the Switch version would...
12/19/17, 23:38
I'm 99.9999% sure it has split screen local play.
12/19/17, 23:46
@nate38 @Zero

Really? Hmm... I might have to bite!
12/21/17, 20:35

I'm pretty sure it is up to 4 players split-screen...

I've got a question for you folks who have played for a while: Do you think this game had a steep learning curve?

The reason I ask is that even after several hours of play I'm still rubbish. I of course didn't expect to be any good starting out, but I don't really feel like I've gotten any better during that time. I'm not really getting a sense of things like how ball physics work when it's hit and what sorts of positions to take up. So I'm wondering if it took other people a long time to git gud or if this is just one of those games I'm always going to suck at.

While we're asking questions: Is there any word of a performance patch in the works? I'm curious since Panic Button knocked the latest Doom patch out of the park, and wonder if we might see them upping resolution and framerate in this game too.
02/27/18, 21:05
Wait, what's wrong with performance? I haven't noticed any issues, though I also haven't used handheld mode.
02/27/18, 21:14
@Mop it up
I remember hearing about people having framerate drops in handheld mode, but I might be mistaken.

@Mop it up

You're not alone! It took me a long time to get used to how to play properly and I still have much to learn. I got frustrated playing online since most others would school me every time. I took a step back and started playing the one player season mode with easy comp opponents to get a better feel for everything. After doing that I went through some of the popular user generated tutorials that are shared in the game. I also watched a good amount of youtube videos of professionals doing their thing and took mental notes. It all helps!

@r_hjort
Yes! Look at their official blog post here. They state that Switch performance and visual quality updates are coming in March - April. This blog post also goes into what they plan for the months after that. Many of the updates have me pleased, especially the cross platform party functionality.
