Rocket League for the Nintendo Switch is now available! This isn't just a weird soccer with flying cars game. Well...it is, but it can be much more than that! There's unlockable content, numerous arenas, modes, training, ranked battle, and cross play with Xbox and PC players! Nintendo exclusive content is also being made available.

@GameDadGrant It's not that weird, it released near the end of the Wii U and I remember some rumblings about a Wii U version but the console was basically dead by then. And it probably wouldn't run on 3DS.

@GameDadGrant I don't think Switch has a retail release but I think other platforms got one so maybe I'm wrong?!

@Zero

It only released near the end of the Wii U lifespan?!? Huh. It seemed like it was a much older game than that. Well, never mind. Carry on, then.

You might be right about the retail release. Other platforms definitely have them, but I guess Switch is digital-only. GameStop didn't get any boxed versions, it seems.

And yeah, Rocket League probably wouldn't run on a 3DS...but what about a NEW 3DS? We probably wouldn't have assumed a game like Xenoblade Chronicles or Fire Emblem Warriors would run on that machine. Yet....!

@GameDadGrant

Don't hold your breath for a 3DS version...
11/15/17, 02:28
Yeah it just came out in 2015! I think they were considering a Wii U version but ultimately decided to just hold off until the Switch?

Maybe it could run on New 3DS I dunno... but it's a very physics-heavy game.

Well...it kinda is!

Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars, (colloquially known as SARPBC, officially abbreviated as SARP Battle-Cars) is a vehicular soccer video game for the PlayStation 3. The game was released in North America in October 2008, and in Europe in February 2009. The campaign mode of the game is made up of a series of varied mini-games, and tournaments against AI which can only be played in single player mode.

A sequel, titled Rocket League, was released in July 2015.

@nate38 Some kid in one of my classes always plays this garbage looking "Car Soccer" game when he isn't supposed to be playing games so I always tell him if he is going to get in trouble he shouldn't get in trouble over a low rent Rocket League rip-off.

Haha!

I'm playing in handheld mode and while very playable, the graphics are definitely downgraded. I hope it's something they fix a bit through patching and optimization.
11/15/17, 03:55
I'm confused like... how do you play with or against friends?! Do you have to do that private room thing that requires a password?!
11/15/17, 05:52
@Zero If you're playing with Switch friends only, you should Create Party by pressing X on the main menu and invite them into a party. From there, you can go into matchmaking and team up with your friends against randoms online in Ranked or Unranked play. I think you can also create a private room while party'd up, to play against each other and/or CPUs.

Cross-platform, yes, you can only make a private room and give them the password. Psyonix has said they're working on cross-platform parties, aiming to get that in early 2018.

So yeah, unless you're planning on playing with friends on PC/Xbone, you should probably just Create/Join Parties.

I figured it out, got into some games with Abdooooooooo (who is way better than me) and man we had some nail-biters.

Last game was 5-4 in OT off of my goal! I had 3 goals that game! (I'm usually nowhere near that good.)

Retired for the night on a positive note!

This game is so much fun online, I hope more people here get into it!

I heard this isn't that great of a port?

Still a big maybe on this game.

@carlosrox

If we're just talking docked mode, I'd say its a great port. Handheld mode definitely works but needs some visual improvement.
11/15/17, 14:15
@carlosrox @Abdooooo I played a lot of the PS4 version and now I'm (obviously) playing the Switch version and so far I'd say it's a solid port. Not quite as pretty, but the gameplay is there.

I did have some lag issues on occasion while playing online that I never had when I played the PS4 game online at my cousin's house but that might just be my Internet. Hard to say since I've never played the PS4 game online at my place. And my Internet has been kind of shitty lately.

Haven't tried handheld mode but really, can't expect a handheld mode to be as clean as a PS4 console mode.

It's already my favorite version because online is free and I can play with you guys. IF... you guys get it!

@Zero In my experience, WiFi vs. wired internet makes a big difference. I don't know what you/your cousin's setups are, but when I went from WiFi to wired for my PC it solved basically all my lag issues for Rocket League and Overwatch both.
11/15/17, 16:05
@nate38 @Zero
Yep. I sometimes play RL on PS4 with a buddy of mine that lives only two blocks away. We have the same ISP (FiOS) but his setup is wireless and mine is wired. No matter what I end up having to host our party due to lag issues on his end.
11/15/17, 17:01
@nate38 We're both wifi. I didn't know people actually had wired Internet.

But I basically have the slowest possible Internet that still streams nicely, and then... it's often much slower than advertised. Especially the last few days even streaming Netflix has had some issues, so it was probably just my shitty Internet.

@Zero I don't think your internet upload/download speed matters all that much when it comes to lag in online games. It's not like games are sending a huge amount of data back and forth, it's just about getting your ping as low as possible, and wireless signals frequently get interrupted for just enough time to matter in online gaming. Even when we had 5-10Mbps internet in college, the difference between wired and wireless in gaming was like night and day (according to my roommates who would try to play Dota via WiFi and then reluctantly connect an Ethernet cable to their laptops).

Then again, does Switch even have an Ethernet port? Or support for a USB-Ethernet adapter?

@nate38 I dunno, as someone who comes from a background which involves a lot of crap Internet, online gaming lag has always been an issue whenever the connection was slow.
11/15/17, 20:24
Hey, I own this now! See you guys online sometime!
