@r_hjortFuck I wish I saw this earlier but nah that can't be right. My bro was playing the game the minute he got it. I'm operating under the assumption that you're talking about the physical version though. You said "got my copy a day early"... We were checking it out quickly just outside the EB Games. It looks good. It has a blurry look to it but it looks good in its own way. To be fair I only saw the first 3 rooms so it's not like I can do a deep dive into how it looks or runs. Even in the beginning I noticed a little bit of slowdown. But I mean for Switch it's a feat and it still looks amazing even with a much blurrier look and lowered settings. I'm getting my copy Wednesday I think. Look forward to replaying this game! |

@carlosroxYeah, I'm talking about a physical copy. I try to get games physically whenever I can. Not sure why the game had me wait for the update, because it didn't seem like I should have had to do that, but oh well, at least I'm able to play it now! The Switch version obviously looks and runs worse than the others, but holy crap, being able to play this on the go at this level of quality is still impressive to me. Especially since this is a port and everything. I'm sure ground-up Switch games will be able to pull off absolutely crazy stuff in the future, if this is anything to go by. If graphics are more important than portability then this is obviously not the ideal version, but personally I'm very happy with my purchase. Played some multiplayer on my TV in the comfort of my couch, then brought my Switch down to the laundry room while waiting for the washing machine to be done and played some single player there. The only disappointment was the fact that the screenshots I took in handheld mode looked pretty bad, unlike the ones I'd snapped in docked. Too bad, 'cause I had a pretty cool thing going with an exploding gore nest and zombies gibbing all over the place. EDIT: Even if you're someone who feels that the graphical downgrade is unacceptable, I don't think there's any denying that a great deal of effort went into making this for the Switch. We're even getting dedicated multiplayer servers and stuff. Maybe that's not a big deal, but it really feels like something that would be the first thing to go if Bethesda just wanted to make a quick buck off the Doom name and the Switch hype. |

@Mop it upNo campaign co-op from what I can tell, but quite a few team based modes for the online multi. Supposedly all the ones the other versions have. Team Modes:
Team Deathmatch Domination Soul Harvest Warpath Sector Freeze Tag Clan Arena Infernal Run Free-For-All Modes:Deathmatch Bloodrush Possession |

I finally took the advice of countless people and went to hell yesterday. For some reason I had feared that levels like that wouldn't feel or look as good as the ones with dark, cramped corridors and stuff, but it kind of blew me away with how good it was. The art direction was obviously very contemporary in the amount of detail and so on, but it still felt very old school Doom to me, and the gameplay was so damn gamey in the best way possible. There was no superfluous fluff to get in the way of shooting stuff and unlocking doors, but it never felt limited or generic anyway. A testament to how well they've pulled off the gameplay. It's certainly not Doom the way Doom used to be, but it's an impressively well thought out modern day take on it. @carlosroxIt is seriously cool to be able to pick up my tiny little Switch and play Doom in bed before I go to sleep. Panic Button did one hell of a job with this game, even if it does need a bit of patching still. Audio and framerate needs some work, but the framerate is weird in its inconsistencies. Like, that one spot that I talked about before, where there were tons of enemies on screen in a relatively small area had my framerate on its knees, but a level I played yesterday had similar amounts of chaos in a bigger arena, and that ran fine with just the occasional hiccup. There was summoning, flamethrowing, infighting, rocket launching, exploding and gibbing galore. Really good stuff! |

@r_hjortI love the design of Hell, the architecture is so cool, I love how you can see a giant ziggurat-like temple in the distance at one part, and all the lore in Hell is top-not insanity. Yeah Wolf 2 has much more of an emphasis on stealth and story, but there are also plenty of sections where you have to run and gun and in those sections it just doesn't feel as smooth and nimble as Doom. I mean.... after Doom almost every FPS feels pretty lacking, IMHO. It's a great game though, The New Order is one of my favorite games of the last few years and The New Colossus is definitely a worthy follow up. @carlosroxI was thinking about Prime 4 while playing Doom, I think it will actually look better in some ways because there are areas in Doom where they had to really sacrifice the texture quality and geometry etc., and sometimes it can get very low res, like below 480P it seems, it's not often but it can be quite blurry, and then there are the framerate drops. With Prime 4 they'll be able to design it with Switch limitations in mind so it should look much sharper and cleaner. I was playing the original Metroid Prime GCN on Dolphin the other day in 1080P/60 and that game still looks amazing even by today's standards! |
