If pressed, I'd say the DKC series is a tad underrated. No one can forget the crazy hype machine of DKC back in the SNES days, but nowadays, I think DK could get a little more appreciation. So let's give props to the big ape, even if he doesn't star in like half of these. What's your favorite Donkey Kong Country game?

Ah, geez! At least you could've picked...

@J.K. Riki
...this one!

I agree that DK '94 is pretty freaking great. Maybe second only to Link's Awakening on the entire GB lineup. But it's part of a different subseries!

Haha, true! Great game is great. Fine, I'll adhere to the actual rules of the poll and vote for a Donkey Kong COUNTRY game. And it's...THIS ONE:

Also, this is my ringtone...so there's that!

Played a little bit of Donkey Kong Country on the SNES Classic the other night, and while it's great, yeah, I guess it hasn't aged amazingly. There's not much question about Tropical Freeze being better!

Tough one...but I give the nostalgic edge to DKC2 over Tropical Freeze by the slightest of margins. Both were excellent (and I'd buy Tropical Freeze again if it were ported to the Switch in a heartbeat).

@GameDadGrant Is that essentially the same game as the SNES version, or is there anything new and different about it?

I loved Tropical Freeze but I'll put DKC2 over it. Though the game is maybe a bit too dark at times, it's still just so magical.

And honestly, while I LOVE the Retro DKC games...I'm still not a fan of how they implemented the roll technique. There's just no...nuance to it? I also don't like how you have to tap the jump button at the right time instead of simply holding it to gain a boost off enemies.

I have yet to play either of the new DKC games. I have shamed my family and shall now shun myself.

Stealth Edit: DKC2 is my fav for now though.

@Mop it up

It's basically the SNES game, though there are a couple additions. There's a new stage in Chimp Caverns for example, and a longer, revamped 'Winky's Walkway.' I want to say there are new mini games and a Time Trial mode...but I may be confusing that for the GBA re-re-release.

I'd probably go with Donkey Kong Country 2, but really, I think the entire Super NES trilogy is incredible. It's one of the most consistently impressive, amazing trilogies I've ever experienced in gaming.
