Ranked is so brutal and combat-heavy that I can only take it in small doses. Turf War is what makes Splatoon Splatoon!

@r_hjort

I'm most excited about the new Salmon Run stage. I love Salmon Run! I hope they extend that mode with more features too, because there's not much you can do after reaching Profreshional.

You mean aside from seeing your rank go down?

Eh, Turf Wars makes so many weapons pretty much useless unless you're pro with them. It's basically "use your main unless you want to lose/come in last place" mode. Some weapons just don't ink like auto weapons do.

To me Ranked really makes all weapons, subs, and specials shine. If I'm gonna practice with weapons I don't use, I feel like using it in Ranked a lot more than TW, which is kinda insane.

Yeah, I'm all about Ranked mode now, but I haven't played it in a week because of how intense it is, haha.

So, Splatoon 2 apparently features voice chat for LAN play.

Which only serves to make me even pissier about the whole phone app situation.

But hey, at least the latest stage additions were pretty great!

If anyone on Team Invisibility wants to join me and my two nephews around 9:00pm Eastern tonight to form a team of four just let me know.

I'll be looking for one person on Team Flight later today too. Who's playing today? I'll use Discord to try and arrange something.
09/02/17, 17:49
Welp, at that point where I dropped out for a week or two, came back, and everyone is like 2-5 times higher levels than me and I just get rocked continually. This is where I tend to drop out permanently of these kind of games.

How can the only people playing online be people who obviously play all the time!? There aren't any more casual online gamers?!
09/02/17, 18:19
@Zero
Don't you get matched up with people close to your own level?

How about playing some Salmon Run to just have a good time while getting some cash, and then go on a shopping spree for good equipment? After some training and that new equipment you should be able to hold your own in the other modes, and gain a few levels. Maybe?

This is really just about me wanting to see even more people play Salmon Run.

@r_hjort The game attempts to match you with players of a similar level, but if that takes too long to find, it will dump you in any game available. Even if you're a lvl 1 dumped into a lvl 50s match.

@Mop it up
Sure, I was basically trying to ask Zero if he got screwed over by the match making. But that's not at all how I typed it out, now that I re-read my post.

@r_hjort @Mop it up I have no idea how it is supposed to work but most everyone I get matched with is a way higher level than me.

Of course, there is a logical reason for this. Most people buy a game within the first month or two and most people play it the most then. Over time more and more people drop off and eventually the only people left playing are the few late to the party n00bz and the diehards. Are we hitting that point where most everyone left playing is a diehard?

Of course, in stuff like Mario Kart that just NEVER STOPS SELLING there are always n00bz so no matter when you start you can find other n00bz. I guess not every game is like this though...

Today's Splatfest was quite awesome. It was way more even in popularity so I barely got matched up with my own team. Team Flight was a team I was proud to support. The way the hub looked tonight with all the best art that had made it's way up the ranks today was really nice. I just finished a good hour and a half with Trish, Ploot, and Jarsh, and it was a riot. We ended up actually fighting the same team we did earlier in the session on the same stage and while we lost initially, we redeemed ourselves in round two by a big margin. Earlier today I was able to enjoy time with my nephew Logan, Ploot, and MrBiggsly as well.

Overall the quick and dirty stats of my actual Splatfest run (i.e. only from the beginning of Splatfest thru the match that got me to the top rank), are as follows…

Played Most on Manta Maria
Won Most on Manta Maria
Was Top Player Most On The Reef
Was Top Player on a Third of the Matches
Won 21 of my 29 matches (72.4%)
Closest Match was just 0.8%
Had 1 Match With No Deaths
Max Splats In a Match was 14
Average Splats Per Match was 8.

I should compare this to the last Splatfest. But maybe later.

Gah, I forgot there was a Splatfest today! Was too busy playing Mario + Rabbids...

This game is sooooooooooooooooo much fun. Now that I've finished the single-player, my hour a day playing Turf War during lunch has been a blast. Did really well today too, a lot of 1st and 2nd place finishes on my team.

Table-top mode with motion controls is a revelation.

Played some fun matches with and against four other NWers last night: it was myself, ploot, VofE, MrBiggsly, and lurker/new member Daveosaur (who is my brother in law)! The room timed out on Daveosaur and I...I don't think it could handle the awesomeness of that many NWers in one place at one time.

Here's a question I ask myself after almost every match: if I have the highest score, but my team loses, did I just get stuck with crappy teammates, or am I failing them strategically in some way? I'd think that however much turf you cover is a pretty good quantifiable way of determining how much you contributed, but not all turf is equal in a strategic sense. If you and one of your opponents stand 20 feet away from each other and keep inking the area halfway between you for the entire match, you'll rack up a huge score, but you won't have helped your team that much; then again, you successfully distracted one person on the other team, so at the very least you pulled your weight...

What's the verdict?
10/15/17, 02:09
I think it can be a bit of both. If the teammate scores are relatively low, that lends to the team just not pulling weight. But if the scores are on par with others, team Dynamics may not be working.

You play in the Splatfest today? I'm team Werewolf but have not, and will not be able to play in today's match.

How's the new stage? Is the Twilight Zone stage, whatever it's called, unique once again?
10/15/17, 04:42
@DrFinkelstein

I didn't play in the second Splatfest, but yeah, the Twilight Zone stage different from the Mayo vs. Ketchup one! It's got these revolving walls that divide the map; pretty hard to get into your enemy's turf, I've had a lot of matches where the ink split is even right down the middle.

Team Vampire all the way.
10/15/17, 05:38
I'll be playing this afternoon around 3:00pm Eastern and need a fourth to join. I haven't chosen a team yet.

You can do Salmon Rub local coop whenever you want if I'm not mistaken. Citation needed.

I've never done Salmon Rub! Sounds like something only available after dark!
