I made it to Professional in Salmon Run last night. In one run someone on my team disconnected so my crew had to tough out rounds 2 and 3 with one less squid. Round 3 was a high tide and we narrowly completed it while being cornered at the bow of the ship. It was awesome, and everyone let out a hearty booyah!

@DrFinkelstein

Sorry I missed it! I'll make a Discord account soon.

@r_hjort

I think it's definitely a tricky set that requires a good amount of team coordination. The Boss Salmonid that chuck bombs from their heads are especially tough to take out if the teamwork isn't there.

@r_hjort

The splatling and blaster work well, if slow. It's just that it's probably players that don't know how to use them? The ink brush is just awful for today though. That thing takes forever to take down a boss but at least the other two make up for it by mowing them down easily with well placed shots.

@VofEscaflowne
Yeah, the splatling and blaster are alright, but like @Octorockin says I think you need good teamwork to take some bosses down, like the Steel Head or whatever that bomb chucking thing is called. It's hard to get into range without getting swarmed. Or shoaled or whatever.

@r_hjort

Yeah the roller can often easily make a path to it and then others should be able to take it down. But then you find out that people are off wandering randomly. Or one match earlier where we had enough eggs out where I was and the other 3 just go at some other spots and leave all those eggs just laying there, making us lose the final round.

Finally got and fired up the game. Won a match!

One. Out of like 12.

Yeah, I knew this game wasn't a good fit for me but I bought it anyway. Oh well, I'm enjoying the single player so far mostly! And if that's all I end up playing of the game, so be it I guess.

Edit: It was awesome playing with so many of you guys just now. Good games, everyone!

@J.K. Riki

Have you tried Salmon Run yet? You might enjoy teaming up with some of us here and fighting Salmonids. It's pretty different compared to Turf Wars!

@Octorockin

Not yet, no! I tried to go play it a little bit ago, but the place I think you start it was boarded up? Maybe I'm not high enough level or something? I don't know.

I kept trying to join you guys and other friends and every single one said "You cannot join this person." I guess because you all are high level and I am level 4, ha ha. Oh well.

EDIT: Also I think I finally wrapped my head around moving while in squid mode, which I didn't understand at ALL before, and I think that very fact is why I suck so much. You NEED to move around in squid mode. I never did. I didn't see the point, really. Now, though, it's like "Uh, yeah, squid mode is AMAZING" and I zoom around in it constantly. It makes the game (or at least moving around the maps) super fun! Love it!

Beat the Single Player last night. Thoughts. While that final boss was a bit obvious from the story stand point, and not as exciting as the original's final push, i did like it and i thought it made for a good mix of classic and new premises. I presume now that you unlock the weapons in Single Player if you use them all in each stage, which may or may not be true. So starting with the Splatbrella, I am preparing to beat every stage with every weapon. A tall order but one I'm up for.

@DrFinkelstein
The final boss was a bit of a disappointment. I think they should have switched things up a lot more, 'cause it's not like there's a lack of gameplay elements to use or anything.

@J.K. Riki
You really didn't know that? I guess you barely played/followed Splatoon?

Plus, don't the required tutorials explicitly say that?? I'm confused.

@r_hjort

They could have made it more like World 4's boss with the different levels to climb and utilize for cover. World 4's the best boss of the game.

@DrFinkelstein
Super duper agreed. I hope they'll make environments a bigger deal like that in Splatoon 3.

They could have done some cool stuff with those treadmill thingies that send you flying too. A couple of the single player levels had sections that felt like (good) 3D Sonic, IMO.

@r_hjort

Really valid point. I guess to clarify my own, I liked it enough, but everything you said has a lot of truth to it. I also would have liked it Marie or Callie or both actually took shots with you to support you. If Marie can shoot the glasses off of Callie, then she can help me out mid match!
07/30/17, 16:47
@DrFinkelstein
Yeah, we've never really gotten to see them do anything but perform. We could at the very least have gotten to shoot some tracer (if that's a thing, I don't know how to weapons) on the boss for the Squid Sisters to shoot a homing missile at or something. Something that at least gives us an illusion of cooperation.

@J.K. Riki It took me a long time to adjust to Splatoon for a variety of reasons, including that the movement is unlike most games I've played. I know it can be discouraging if it takes a while, so just be patient and keep doing what you're doing.
07/30/17, 21:03
@carlosrox

As far as I can tell, the tutorials do not really tell you "Stay in the paint most of the time while you move, as much as you can." That is what changed everything for me, personally. I did not understand THAT. It may seem intuitive to some, but like @Mop it up said above, the movement is unlike most games I've played as well. So it didn't come naturally. For me, naturally was walking around in non-squid form and shooting. It's a shooter, right? So that's what I did. But you can't play the game like that. I basically was out of ink ALWAYS before, and it was frustrating and awful. It's almost like the squid form is the main, and you only pop out to use the gun. And I'm glad they did it that way now that I GET it, but I didn't GET it before.

I fully admit this is not a design flaw but that I'm a slow learner in this instance. It is what it is. I'm just glad something clicked, because WOW is this game fun now. Like, I have to pull myself away from it and force breaks before my eyes dry out. I'm still not very good, but it's fun even losing because I feel like now I have a chance.

EDIT:
Some Pearl art to warm up for work-art I have to do.

@J.K. Riki

She looks way less evil. Nicely done.
07/31/17, 05:41
@DrFinkelstein

Yeah! I don't like how evil she always looks. She seems high-strung and a bit... opinionated let's say, but not evil! My goal for all Pearl drawings is to make her not look evil. (It's hard.)

Tonight I was tending a campfire and there were no small sticks to be had, so I was trying to split bigger log wedges WITH the log wedges and I smashed my thumb and bled all over. I don't know how this will affect my Splatoon 2 playing, but I may be out of commission for a few days.

Going to try to power through it, though. Game is too fun to ignore for a little thing like agonizing pain, right? Right.

I haven't had a chance to play the last couple days; mighta broke a finger at work friday then one of my dogs died saturday. Suffice to say i just wasn't in the mood today lol. Will try to at least hop on Salmon Run at some point this week tho.
07/31/17, 07:44
I actually like Pearl's snarky face. I think it adds to her character!

@J.K. Riki

Yikes! Hope you heal up quickly. It's awesome that Splatoon has started to click with you.
