Call me crazy, but this game is actually starting to grow on me.

I mean it doesn't look greaaat, but it could be fun.

16 is still a kid! 35 is still a kid, too. At least that's what I tell my wife when I ask her if I can buy candy.

Review embargo is up.

Reviews are um... not great. Not TERRIBLE, but not great.

Of course, with any product, YMMV.

I don't put much stock in reviews, especially for a game like this. It seems like one of those things that just makes you feel happy in a simple, basic way. But you can't write a review(TM) around that, so you have to break down its component parts and they probably won't hold up under scrutiny. But like with New Yoshi's Island, the whole is more than its parts.

I nabbed this for under $7 out the 'digital door' due to Amazon's glitches during Prime Day. So I'm happy as a clam. Though I need my 3DS fixed/bought new to play it proper. In time. In time.

Yeah, seems like this is a game that really lives by the "YMMV" saying.

I'm going in with the mindset that this isn't Pikmin proper...but is a side story. Like a spin-off or something. It's an action game that uses the Pikmin branding. I'm not going to expect this to play like the previous games in the series, just like I didn't go into Starfox Adventures to play like Starfox 64.

I think with expectations properly set, this will be a fun diversion.

@DrFinkelstein

$7?!? Nice, dude!

@DrFinkelstein I guess I should start checking out these sales just in case I can find any glitches!

@Secret_Tunnel

LOL.

People said the same thing about Chibi-Robo: Zip Lash!, and I still liked that game fine. It's all about knowing what you're getting yourself into!

Like, don't play Pokémon Stadium expecting a full, proper Pokémon RPG. Don't go into this one expecting traditonal Pikmin.

From the demo, I actually think the game seems promising. It appears that it could be a good implementation of the Pikmin gameplay in 2D.

I should check out the demo. A part of me wants to play this because Naoto Oshima worked on it. He's the artist who created Sonic and NiGHTS when he worked at Sega!

Given that I love Pikmin and platformers I'd probably enjoy it anyway.

@GameDadGrant Are there any Nintendo-published handheld games you DON'T like though?!
07/28/17, 21:37
@Zero

Ummm...well, I didn't really dig the Steel Diver sequel. And I couldn't get into Mole Mania on Gameboy. Or Rusty's Real Deal Baseball. Or Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer. Did Nintendo publish that Tank Troopers game on 3DS? I really wasn't feeling that one.

It's true I enjoy a majority of Nintendo's handheld games...but that's mostly because they typically make really good games!

@GameDadGrant
Rusty's is awesome!

Played a demo yesterday at Fry's. Only played about the first 5 minutes, so not enough to form a real opinion on it. Obviously it's no Pikmin 4, but I was surprised at how good the standard throwing mechanic translated to 2D. I don't know how strategic it will eventually get, long term, but the core mechanic isn't broken or so fundamentally different that it doesn't feel right. So that's good.

I'm still out of the games business, but 5 minutes never hurt anyone. I can quit anytime.

@GameDadGrant What? Rusty's Real Deal Baseball was awesome!

And I don't even care about baseball!

See? I don't automatically like EVERYTHING Nintendo cranks out on their hardware!

Just *most* stuff.

I'm also not feeling Earthbound yet either. The 3DS VC version is the first time I've actually played it.

Played the demo. The throwing was satisfying, but Olimar controlled too clunkily. You should be able to use a trigger for the jetpack.

Wait, someone on a Nintendo fansite likes Nintendo games? The madness!
