Welcome to the official discussion thread for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Every new generation a great dawn emerges where a new game in the acclaimed Super Smash Bros. series graces Nintendo's newest consoles… for the Wii U, that time is almost upon us. Nintendo is truly pulling out all the stops with this one. Here's the breakdown on what we can expect… (Learn more at the Super Smash Bros. website.)

1.) 45+ playable characters (new characters, returning fighters, or accessible via alt costumes)
2.) Releasing November 21st, November 28th, or December 5th depending on your region
3.) Tons of content; from trophies to levels to music tracks to items to pokemon to modes… it seemingly never ends!
4.) Customizable Move-sets
5.) Many control setups; Wii U Gamepad, standard Wii U options, Gamecube controllers, even your 3DS!
6.) Online capable (and encouraged)
7.) Check out Nintendo's 50 Things You Should Know about Smash Bros!
8.) Stages exclusive to the Wii U version. Some epic stages!
9.) Amiibo Support for all existing Amiibos
10.) Gameplay lands somewhere between Melee and Brawl

As you can see, there really is something for everyone, perhaps more than ever before. As I wrote this whole post up, I was listening to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl soundtrack and remembering the hours and days and weeks and months of fun I've had with that game. This will be no different and really will shake the Wii U community up in the best ways. Nintendo is on the eve of quite possible the most acclaimed game the console will have. This is a very exciting moment for Nintendo gamers. Speaking back on the music, you can listen to a bunch of neat samples from the upcoming game at the SmashBros.com Music Page. Be sure to check out Kapp'n's Song! It's a personal favorite of mine. The 3DS version is to have two-songs per stage but the Wii U version is meant to have that and more, even some songs from past games as well.

Please enjoy a few of my favorite images found on the official Super Smash Bros. website.

The release date in North America is November 21st and it was just moved up to November 28th in Europe. For all other regions you can expect December 5th. In the mean time, there's always the 3DS version which looks incredible in it's own right! You can discuss it in Jargon's thread here; Super Smash Bros. 3DS. We should aim to keep this thread focused on the Wii U version so that the 3DS discussion ends up in it's right place. Keep in mind that the Daily Updates are still being provided by Sakurai (for a few more weeks at least) and the best place to find and discuss those is Stephen's Super Smash Bros. News Discussion (Roster Spoilers) Now With Daily Images thread. I do my best to update that daily with the Sakurai posts.

Who is your main? What are you most excited for? Finally, be sure to have your friends added on your Wii U! I'll do my best to keep this thread updated with the various users who are playing this online.

Samus is #1 :p

From the characters that give me the most trouble when I fight someone who really knows what they're doing I'd say DDD, Bayo, and Sonic are some of the most troubling characters to face.
Olimar can also be really tough because his fuckin annoying Pikmin can easily block my shots, and his Smashes are devastating. Duckhunt I don't face often, but players can be super cheap with them. Villager is also high up on my list of characters I dislike fighting. They can be very annoying with their slingshot, they have auto throw KO moves (Really, why do those exist? Dumbest thing), and their bowling ball over the ledge is dangerous EVERY fucking time.

Oh, ROB. GOD he's irritating. He's a pretty cheap character I think. So much so that he's pretty easy to win with and I don't like using him for that reason.

I love that Samus is a pretty uncommon main and many people don't know her tricks. You can be a cheap bastard with her as well if you want to. She's pretty spammable.

@carlosrox I seem to recall you had some choice words about Charizard as well. I think it went something like this.

Charizard I don't face often, but players can be super cheap with them. Charizard is also high up on my list of characters I dislike fighting. They can be very annoying with their Rock Smash, and don't get me started on the ones who know how to use rock smash while sliding somehow (Really, why does that exist? Dumbest thing), and their flamethrower over the ledge is dangerous EVERY fucking time.

I actually have a decent record on Ford Glory but I still have to work on a bunch of stuff like:

Staying on the ground to avoid getting juggled.
Spot Dodging.
Getting better at Shielding.
Spot Dodging instead of hopping around like a maniac.
Get more consistent with the sweet spot on Charizard's forward tilt.
Learn to survive at higher prevents through defensive techniques like Spot Dodging.
Get better at that sliding rock smash thing.

Pretty sure Carlos has called literally every character on the roster "cheap" at some point. And if every character is "cheap" that means it's a really well balanced game!

@nate38
That's not true at all!
07/05/17, 23:42
@nate38 He hasn't even faced my Bowser Amiibo. He doesn't know the meaning of the word "cheap."

Wow, new Smash patch out. Pretty late in the game. I think it's just amiibo support for Cloud Bayo and Corrin though.

Replays gone! Haha I'm kinda relieved. I didn't wanna delete all of them myself. I was kinda hopimg for this lol!
07/21/17, 04:33
@carlosrox Really? I read that this didn't kill any replays. It's definitely not a balance patch, so it shouldn't affect replays at all.

EDIT: Yeah, I just updated and my replay is still there. I'm watching it now!

Aw what?

Nooooooooooooo! Someone lied!!!

Oh well, I guess there were some good ones I wanted to keep anyway.

These six custom game modes seem like a lot of fun. "Sounds Like Smash" is kind of hilarious, I only got 4 in their example.

Random vs. Random
That's pretty much it, though they have a tier-based scoring system that's neat I guess.

Sounds Like Smash
Set up a 1-minute 8-player free-for-all between Random CPUs and try to guess which characters are fighting without looking at the screen. It's not easy!

The Ganondorf Challenge
One player versus everyone else on a Ganondorf Team. Rotate who the unlucky victim is and see how many KOs they can get.

The Smash Board Game
Everyone starts out as Mario and progresses across the character select screen "spaces" by how many KOs they get in a free-for-all. First one to reach the end wins!

Duelist Pro
On a custom stage with no floor, everyone picks Young Link and tries to stay alive as long as possible by blowing themselves up with his custom Short-Fuse Bomb.

Pitfall Smash
Kind of hard to explain...but you have a stage with only a thin floor and the Pitfall item that pulls people through floors...right into cannons that kill them. Looks like it has that fast, fun Smashketball feel.

@nate38

Oh nice, I'm totally recommending these to the people I play with!

...we haven't played in years...
10/09/17, 22:55
@nate38 Those sound similar to the kind of stuff I've thought up.

Here are a few more of mine that I think are pretty fun:

Imbalanced 2v2
Each team has one player with starting damage set to 300%, while the other player on each team starts with the usual 0%. Will you try to attack their weak player or defend your own? This works best using Time match but can be okay with Coin. This can also work with two human players and make the two CPU players the weak ones.

A more balanced 1v3?
Set each player on the 3 team to 100%-200% damage (depends on character choice and player skills), while the lone player is the normal 0%. It may seem like the lone player will dominate since most attacks will KO the 3 team members, but it can actually be pretty challenging if the 3 players are coordinated as they can easily trap the lone player into combos. Probably works best in Stock match.

Super Sudden Death
Set damage ratio to 2.0 and have all players start with 300% damage. Turn on only Bob-omb items, though you can also turn on other sorts of bomb items for a bit more variety in items. Watch the insanity ensue as players go flying at the slightest touch or random explosion! This can work in all three match modes.

@nate38
Those sound pretty cool!

@Mop it up
Also cool! I always wanted to have an 'invulnerable' option in games like this a nd Perfect Dark, so that you could set up Terminator scenarios.

An update coming November 8 to Smash 3DS/Wii U will remove certain online features, including Youtube replay uploads.

Smash Bros. 3DS
- sharing screenshots via Miiverse will end
- sharing pictures with friends will still be possible (via Image Share)

Smash Bros. Wii U
- sharing screenshots taken during gameplay (including sharing via Miiverse, and with friends) will end
- sharing of stages created in Stage Builder (including sharing with friends) will end
- uploading replay videos to YouTube will end
- creation of Normal Tourneys will end
- the Miiverse stage will remain playable, but no messages will be displayed during battles, and you will not be able to post anything at the end

Clock's ticking, Carlos.

This is the only replay I had, this weird throw interaction happened and I wanted to go back and try to figure it out.

It's the times when the game actually breaks a little that you wonder...how does such a complex game not bug out more often?

Smash is a cool, cool game.

REPLAYS ARE GOING?!?!?!?! WTF!!!!!!!!!
11/06/17, 10:40
@carlosrox

They're tied to Miiverse functionality I thought, so this is not much of a surprise. You have a capture card right? Save your replays! Or upload any to YouTube.

Or are you concerned about future ones?
11/06/17, 20:01
You can't upload Mario Kart 8 Deluxe clips to Youtube either. I didn't see anyone talking about that but it bummed me out, what a cool feature.

...then again, now that you can save gameplay footage through the share button, it doesn't matter toooo much.
11/07/17, 01:57
@DrFinkelstein
Future ones! I have a huge list right now but that's not as important.

Nah my bro has the capture card and that's a whole other can of worms anyway. It wouldn't work at my place unless I move my pc into another room which simply doesn't work with my setup.

Worst case scenario I can record em off tv with my phone but that still sucks. I guess tomorrow I'll upload my final replays. :(

Tomorrow's the last day isn't it :(

They're not necessarily tied to Miiverse. Loading to YouTube and Miiverse is the option in game but you can forego the Miiverse post and just post to YouTube...but...I guess not anymore. Ugh.

Tomorrow I'll spend my final day with Smash 4 replays and maybe make some final Miiverse posts. Oh what a sad day.

Miiverse used to be beautiful.

REPLAYS TO YOUTUBE STILL WORK!!!!!!!

Reusing this gif for this thread I dun give a FUCK :D

Edit: Uh oh. Could this only be working cuz I've had the game on since before Miiverse died?? I mean, it tells me Miiverse is down, but it goes ahead and uploads to YouTube...

I guess we will know for sure tomorrow then...
