I would love to have them on the Switch right now. Especially considering that I can't make much noise at night in order to not wake up the family. I can't connect headphones to my PS3 directly and my sound system is acting up so the headphones sound weird. So, having all of these on the Switch would allow me to just put on some headphones with a long extension cable and listen to all the shows while watching on the big screen. Plus, I can also watch it on that beautiful large portable screen when I'm not in my room.

What about you?

It doesn't right now, but it also has no real 'service' yet either. We'll be able to go online with MK8D this weekend but there's still no formal thing. My guess is that they'll discuss streaming whenever they get around to unveiling all they plan to do with this, i.e. E3.

Ah, weird, but yeah, it will have them eventually, every device under the sun does! I would bet any amount of money that by the end of 2017 Switch will have Netflix, Amazon, and YouTube at the very least.

@GameDadGrant

I think the apps have always been free on all devices, but I remember Microsoft used to paywall access behind Xbox Live Gold at least up until a few years ago.That's never been an issue with Nintendo of course.

I haven't done much with these streaming services because they're in their infancy here, but I'm sizing up a subscription to one of our local players. Wasn't there something Netflix offered where you could download some content for offline viewing? That'd be super handy on a portable like the Switch.

@Stephen

I've never owned a Microsoft or Sony console after the PS1, but I'm pretty sure I've heard of something somewhere charging an additional fee to use Netflix on it. It may have only been a rumor, an early development thing, or some sort of electronic that wasn't a video game console, but I seem to remember a little bit of an outcry at the idea that you'd have to pay an additional fee to access it.

After reading Shadowlink's post, I think the Xbox Live paywall is probably what I'm thinking of.

Yes. What I really want is Netflix and Amazon apps that have the ability to download shows to them like I can on my iPad so I don't have to choose whether to take the Switch or the iPad to work with me that day anymore.

I don't use these services, and I'm always confused by the number of people I see using a streaming service on my Wii U friend list. You guys realise these systems can play games, right?

@Mop it up

Is there no situation in which you'd rather watch a movie than play a game?
05/04/17, 01:50
@Mop it up

Yeah, but it only plays Wii U games. Hence, the Netflix usage. Hey-oh! [/trolling]
05/04/17, 02:05
@Stephen Only when I'm eating. But it doesn't take me ~2 hours to have a meal, so I just find something to watch on the telly until I'm finished with eating and can return to games. I wouldn't just sit around and watch something, like some kind of chump.

If I watch a movie then it's someone else's suggestion, and if it's on Netflix then we use a better-quality streamer than a game system.

@Mop it up

I've never had problem streaming in HD on my Wii U.
05/04/17, 22:57
Yes, even though I'm not sure how much I'd use it personally. More choices is good, and given the Switch's portability factor, it'd be nice to have services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, etc. on it. It's another selling point.

@TheOldManFromZelda There aren't problems with it, it just isn't as good.

How so? My experience has been that all devices are about the same. The only real difference is browsing interface.
05/06/17, 22:27
@Stephen Yeah, they're barely different, but I do think the interface is better on a computer or stream box. Wii U is also slower and the GamePad isn't as convenient as a remote. It also crashed the system a couple of times, though I hear that's been a general problem with Wii U and streaming apps.

Some of these will vary from person to person, but for me, I don't see a reason.
05/06/17, 23:19
I find they're all generally the same. I feel like Netflix basically has the app layout identical across all devices.

I would definitely say that my Roku stick is the fastest of my Netflix devices. It takes a little more less time to load than on the XBox One.

Also casting to the XBox One via YouTube just never works right. I often have to quit out of the app first.
05/09/17, 01:32
This is weird. I'd have assumed there were at least plans.

01/14/18, 22:23
@Zero I doubt customer service knows much about which products are getting apps. Netflix makes so much sense on Switch. In the middle of watching a movie, but have to go somewhere? Take it with you.
01/15/18, 02:52
@cooliocuneo

It's really a perfect screen for it too. Plus the battery life surely could last a whole movie. I'm amazed it hasn't happened yet.
01/15/18, 04:51
@cooliocuneo I suppose, but why comment that nothing is planned if the answer is really "I don't know"?
01/15/18, 04:54
I don't remember voting, but I'm probably the weirdo who voted "no." The Switch is a gaming device, it doesn't need to be bloated with other applications that muddle its identity.
