Alright, I did the region most-directly North ( Woodland) last night. A lot of awesome stuff to talk about. They've finally done the Lost Woods justice in a 3D Zelda game! An actual forest, where it felt like you could -- wait for it -- get lost! This whole section was amazing and beautiful and lived up to what I was hoping for. Got more significant upgrades to my inventory from Maracas, which was the main reason I've continued in a northern direction. And those shrine quests were really well done and varied. Though I was hoping for more from climbing up the Great Deku Tree than another fetch quest -- hopefully the reward for completing that one is good.Spoilers regarding a sword the hero wields to seal the darknessSo...I got the Master Sword! I was a bit concerned at first about the Deku Tree being a real dick about me just taking it, and when my 10 heart containers weren't enough to pull sword from stone. Thankfully, though, I had just enough stamina vessels to sell to the demon statue back in Hateno. Anyways, the design around this seems really smart in the context of the weapon degradation system and the non-linearity of the game. It's a Level 30 sword that has special abilities and doesn't break, but you also can't use it indefinitely. So it solves the problem of not having an adequate weapon available at all times, while also giving you plenty of reasons to not use it as your only weapon. And because you have to have a certain amount of hearts to earn it, you can't just go there at the beginning of the game, get the Master Sword and then never use anything else the rest of the game. Very smart game design. My plan is pretty much to use it until it needs to recharge, and then switch over to one of my breakable weapons for a bit. I should be able to save some of those higher-level weapons for a longer time now. There was an island to the left of the Korok Forest that I went to that seemingly had nothing important on it, aside from an enemy ambush and a piece of amber under a rock. I'm wondering if there's something else there that I'm missing, but I didn't notice anything. Back on the road now, heading towards my next Divine Beast. By the way, I know it's been discussed a little in this thread already, but I'm still going to tread real lightly here. @carlosrox's post here mentioned it, if you're curious as to what these spoilers are about. I think it was on my first or second day playing BotW that I spotted the yellow serpent coming out of the water at night, but I had something more pressing to do in the area so I figured I'd go back to it. Seemed very Dark Souls-y at the time. But then last night, after leaving the forest and heading northwest, I saw a similarly sized red dragon flying along the mountainside. I followed it for a bit this time, but it was out of reach before I could really interact with it. Anyways, based on a quest I was given that I haven't done yet, I think I know the purpose of these creatures. I don't know exactly what I'm going to do to deal with them, but I have some ideas and at least now I have a good idea of what they are for.EDIT: @carlosrox, yeah, Bun describes how to do it but seriously once you do the first couple of main story missions, you'll come across it and you can't really miss it. |

@DrFinkelsteinI think it happens regularly, maybe every in-game week or so...? And yeah, freaked me out the first time too; spooky music and the sky looked like the apocalypse.
Second-scariest Zelda moon ever, am I right? :p |
