Welcome to the official discussion thread for Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U!
To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!
Through all the stories and all the timelines found in the Zelda series... nobody saw this coming. Koei Tecmo and Nintendo team up to take the Dynasty Warriors formula, toss in a lot of Zelda-franchise fan service, and blend that stuff together in a funky mish-mash of Zelda lore that only the Wind Fish could dream up. That game is called Hyrule Warriors. I was admittedly hesitant on this title upon first announcement. I had no idea what the Dynasty Warriors franchise was all about. I knew I loved Zelda. It wasn't until the excellent Nintendo Direct (embedded below) which sold me on the idea. I'm seeing a lot of reviews, which started coming in today, and they seem to agree that this isn't much of a Zelda game. I have to point out, the name borrows the Warriors from Dynasty Warriors and not Zelda. This alone helps me see what Koei Tecmo and Nintendo were aiming for. This isn't going to be a Zelda main-line game nor is it striving to be. For what it's goals are, and for what Nintendo has contributed to it, I'm pretty excited myself and now there's less than 10 days remaining. The game releases on September 26th, 2014. Fun Facts1.) Sends Link and 12 other playable characters from various Zelda universes into other universes. Mixing things up! 2.) Loaded with various locales, enemies, bosses, items, and music from throughout the Legend of Zelda series. 3.) Series offers plenty of DLC options (detailed below). 4.) Tons of combos and special moves for each character. 5.) 2-player Co-Op (though I hear it's pretty hard on the Wii U processing) 6.) Unique 'Adventure Mode' taking players back into the NES' The Legend of Zelda for a mix of challenges and adventure! (at least on the map) DLC OptionsAmazon.com - Buy from here an you'll get codes for Twilight Princess Costumes Best Buy - Buy from here an you'll get codes for Skyward Sword Costumes Gamestop - Buy from here an you'll get codes for The Ocarina of Time Costumes NOTE: While the Retailer-Specific DLC is day one, shortly after release all DLC will be available for purchase from Nintendo for presumably a small fee. deathly_hallows said:tiny map Thats the 3DS for you. But yes, theres a lot of stuff to do, and you need to kinda..weigh what is more important. A lot of the time, Squad Leaders are like "I need help!," but those guys always go down hella-fast, so who cares. Learn to defend yourselves! You don't want your Base to fall (ever), or certain Keeps. There are missions for each stage that are explicitly spelled out about what needs to happen. Make sure it does. And you're always going to have a Time Limit. But you usually have 50 minutes max. Thats a long time, man. You'll get quicker, and more efficient, and learn, and remember, and get STRONGER as you level up. The stages don't advance WITH you. They stay the same difficulty, and get easier that way. Come back later and SQUASH IT. (There are still stages on the Zelda 1 map that I can't get an S or A ranking on, whichever is the best. But once I get strongerrrrr..I'll be able to.) Linkle is playable on the Wii U, yes. |

@deathly_hallowsAgain, I'm going to blame your miniature screen, but when there is a distress signal from someone, there is a horizontal energy bar which almost looks like a divider. I don't know when it first pops up, but I think its maybe when they're half dead, and then 75% dead. I'm not certain. But yeah, you get inundated with a lot of stuff at once, and you just need to figure out what requires your attention most. Focus on the main mission, but I'M always going for A's (or S's? I can't remember, tell me!), so I'm whipping around there doing all I can, trying to be DONE in 8 minutes. Or is it 12? I can't recall, again. And killing 1200 guys. I think those are accurate. The Deku Tree? Yes, you want to stop that, ASAP. If it burns, you lose. I think you can just clear the Keep and it'll stop it for then? I'm not sure. Or maybe thats the end of the stage thing? You'll also get messages like "Strong Enemies Moving Towards Southern Keep!!" with some arrows, and YES, you should intercept those as quick as you can (assuming you're in the area), or they will crush your keep quickly. You probably should've started with the Wii U version -- if you didn't -- and went to the portable version after you knew the game in and out. Of course the combat is easy, thats not what the game is "about." (Similarly, George Lucas talked about the Battle Droids in Episode 1 going down like sticks off butter vs. knives; unfortunately for Ep1, some of those fights only have the Battle Droids as the opposition. So the Heroes crush them QUICKLY, and without sweat. You, however, are running against a clock, and then you've got a FAT boss fight at the end, which is sometimes time consuming as well. Mowing down 60 guys is nothing.) Is the map in your lap on the Wii U? I can't remember, I really gotta play this again. Maybe I'll fire it up on Friday, re-acclimate myself to help you better. EDIT- Is there a stage / scenario that you're specifically having issues with? Also, I forgot to mention, on the Story Missions, I'm trying like heck to find those Heart Containers / Whatever as well. In the Map mode, too. And unless I'm mistaken, I don't think they move Keeps. So if you've discovered a Big Treasure Chest in one keep, you can remember for your next attempt and get it then, diggity dog. |

@Mr_MustacheWow 8 minutes? Damn! It takes me like 30, but then again I try to draw it out because my favorite part of the game is just the combat and taking over keeps etc. I don't want to run past the enemies to get to the next objective, I want to kill literally every living soul on the map! So I got the Ganondorf section last night, I thought the story was over but it kept going! Not sure I really want to keep playing though, not really into Ganondorf, I played the first mission and it was meh. One thing I noticed is that you seemingly can't play Linkle's story missions from the 3DS game... bummer! LOVE Linkle, she's my favorite character by far, her and Link are the only ones I really want to play as. Lana is cool, she's got the book which is neat, but still, that Linkle... dual crossbows, hold down Y to go all over-the-shoulder RE4-style and murder some fools? Yes please! More of that! Oh one other big thing that I noticed is really cool in the 3DS version but not in the Wii U version is that you can switch characters at any time by tapping their icons on the bottom screen. That. Is. Awesome. Need to get an objective that's halfway across the damn map? No problem just switch to another character to happens to be closer. Amazing. Really bums me out you can't do that on the Wii U! Especially because the WUG screen is totally wasted, there is nothing useful on it at all! The touch screen on the 3DS is way more useful. Cool game though, on both platforms, wish they had cross save! Guess that kind of thing won't be an issue anymore with Switch. |

@TriforceBunI mean he's cool, I just don't like playing as the villain for some reason, I hardly ever do in games. I don't want to kill Gorons, too much Goron killing in that game already! Also part of the problem might be that he isn't as leveled up as my other characters, I don't want to spend the rupees! Hey this is another odd thing, maybe a glitch, I have over 6 million rupees on the 3DS version, yes 6 million, basically infinite money, and I have no idea how I got it because I literally never played the game until a week or so ago and I already had the money. Crazy! EDIT: after flipping back and forth between both versions I think I prefer the 3DS version, it feels a bit snappier, the load times are practically non existent (which means you can skip the annoying voiceover in the story missions), the ability to switch between players and use the owl statues to fast travel around the map is a game changer, and I think I even like the visuals a little better, the slightly cel-shaded look makes everything seem a bit more colorful and less drab. The Wii U version does have some perks though, namely the map is a lot easier to read. I feel like there should be an option to scale up the map on the 3DS touch screen to like 2X or 4X the size and then have it pan around and follow the action, as it stands now sometimes it's really hard to see what the hell is going on especially when several objectives are popping off at once. |

@Mr_MustacheYeah I'm playing the adventure mode now, it rules! Linkle all the way, kicking ass and taking names. Oh and I figured out that Nintendo just gives you money over spot-pass every now and then, that's how I amassed 6 million, I guess my 3DS was in standby for like a month sitting in it's cradle LOL. TriforceBun said:TheOldManFromZelda said:That's it! I'm playing Hyrule Warriors again!!
The WiiU version is superior! I don't care what anyone says! It's a lot prettier, clearer, and you can see a lot more of the enemies. I'm inclined to agree with you, although part of that might be my desire to not start from the beginning with HW again if I got the 3DS version. If you haven't played the 3DS version I think you'd be surprised, it doesn't look great blown up on a computer monitor or whatever but on the 3DS screen it looks really sharp and colorful and quite pleasant. There are less grunt enemies on the screen at one time, true, but the game also runs at a better framerate (on the New 3DS, apparently it's unplayable on the old 3DS) which translates into the controls feeling a lot more responsive. Factor in skipping all the load times and the character-switch/fast travel stuff, it's just more fun to play, IMO. Not to mention you can play it anywhere, I'm going to take it to Florida on vacation next week, woo! |
