On March 31st, 2016 My Nintendo premiered in North America and Europe. This is the day when My Nintendo Picross: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess first became available in those areas. The game is 45 puzzles themed on The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. You can beat them normally or take them on in the special Mega Picross mode. The game is only available through Nintendo's new My Nintendo service. The game is currently only available until 10/1/2016 at 4 AM ESTMore Information can be found here. I just downloaded this. My first download from the My Nintendo line. Interesting enough, the way it eats your Platinum points is unique. I had 565 Miitomo Platinum and 710 regular Platinum. When I bought it, I though maybe 500 would come from each, splitting the difference. However… I now have 140 Miitomo Platinum and 135 regular Platinum. So only 425 points came from Miitomo and 575 came from regular Platinum. I wonder what drove that? The only thing that might make sense right now is the fact that now my Miitomo and regular Platinum points are about even. As close to even as you can get. I suppose it does that. Not that this affects anything much but I'm pleased that while there's two ways to earn Platinum, right now there's no indication that either Platinum is used for only certain stuff. They just differentiate how you got them. Oh, and the other cool thing was how after redeeming, the code didn't need to be entered. I was able to easily push it to my 3DS on file without issue. How awesome is that!? URL to share (right click and copy)

I just got a New Nintendo 2DS XL and finished transferring all my games over. And I went poking through all the apps on there, and all the social features, and it started me down one of my Nintendo History Nostalgia "wasn't this weird!?!?" rabbit holes... which led me to My Nintendo, and finally, this game.
...wasn't this weird!?!?
A puzzle game that can only be obtained from a customer rewards service branded off of a different ten-year old game? It makes sense when you have the context: Twilight Princess HD was just coming out, My Nintendo was a way to incentivize people to play their mobile games, and Picross was a hot and easy template to plug something into. Will future historians be able to piece together the perfect storm that led to this game's creation?
Anyway, this is my first Picross game, and I just wanted to try it out more for the novelty than anything. Installed Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp and Pokemon Rumble, linked my Nintendo account to them to get the platinum coins, and then uninstalled them. Downloaded this game, and... actually had a lot of fun with it! I might even play more of it, this is great!
What's your guys' favorite Picross game? How was Picross 3D? The next evolution, or a fun-but-less-elegant spin-off?
There's a new one coming out in a couple days! Wait, maybe that's what set me down the rabbit hole... |
