On March 31st, 2016 My Nintendo premiered in North America and Europe. This is the day when My Nintendo Picross: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess first became available in those areas.

The game is 45 puzzles themed on The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. You can beat them normally or take them on in the special Mega Picross mode. The game is only available through Nintendo's new My Nintendo service. The game is currently only available until 10/1/2016 at 4 AM EST

More Information can be found here.

I just downloaded this. My first download from the My Nintendo line. Interesting enough, the way it eats your Platinum points is unique.

I had 565 Miitomo Platinum and 710 regular Platinum. When I bought it, I though maybe 500 would come from each, splitting the difference. However… I now have 140 Miitomo Platinum and 135 regular Platinum. So only 425 points came from Miitomo and 575 came from regular Platinum. I wonder what drove that? The only thing that might make sense right now is the fact that now my Miitomo and regular Platinum points are about even. As close to even as you can get. I suppose it does that. Not that this affects anything much but I'm pleased that while there's two ways to earn Platinum, right now there's no indication that either Platinum is used for only certain stuff. They just differentiate how you got them.

Oh, and the other cool thing was how after redeeming, the code didn't need to be entered. I was able to easily push it to my 3DS on file without issue. How awesome is that!?

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

My guess is that they took your coins in the order you earned them. That way the 'oldest' coins are used first. That's the best way to keep track of expiry. So if you got most of your regular Platinum before mucking about with Miitomo, that would explain that. You could probably check that theory through the account history .

I know it's 'free' but 45 Puzzles (I suppose 90 if you include Mega Picross variants) seems a little small. Ah well.

Should be able to jump on this soon I hope. Woolly Word first.

Sounds a little light on content. Even so, I want this. Does it have Zelda music and sound effects? How big are the biggest puzzles?

@Shadowlink

That's a novel and hopefully correct guess. The oldest first does make sense considering the expiration date. I like this. I'll look into it shortly. Because of the MASSIVE influx of initial points from two key sources.

My guess is that it dumps out your coins, yanks what it needs, then divvies up what remains between Miitomo and Platinum as evenly as possible (in multiples of 5).

I'm glad this game isn't pay-to-play or whatever. That ruined Pokemon Picross for me (which should've been amazing).

@TriforceBun

Yeah, there's music from the game, though remixed a bit and sounds... weird. But's it's alright I guess. There's a few other added sound effects and when you fill in squares, it looks like you're slashing at grass.

Biggest puzzles are 20 x 15 that I've seen, not counting the Micross puzzle which is 80 x 80. It's simple but more Picross so it's hard to complain!

My only complaint is that I can't toggle the fill and x buttons right with the stylus. I'm used to it only working when I hold down the dpad. But here, If I hit up to fill something, then let go, think, and go to fill it in again, I am not used to NOT having to hit that button again so I end up toggling OFF the fill and nothing happens. A little annoying but yeah, there's definitely bigger puzzles than the small ones.

Plus I'm seeing that I can use puzzles which are finished as Miiverse stamps. Cool.

I'm also gonna grab this. Always love me some Nintendo-themed Picross puzzles.

@TriforceBun

You just need patience for Pokémon Picross

Up to Area 20 on that. 11-13 Picrites each day and usually around 10 days to unlock a new area once you factor in the initial Picrite influx from the previous area.

My hope is that once I've ground my way through to the end, I can unlock the Alt-World and have an absolute mess of puzzles to work on at my leisure. That will be the 'real' game

@VofEscaflowne80x80 ????

Are they breaking that down into chunks like the murals in Pokecross?
04/04/16, 05:00
@DrFinkelstein

Yeah I had that same problem with that and it's made me do a few mistakes cause of it. It's from the same devs... so I wonder why the change? Or at least give us an option.

@Shadowlink

I haven't played the Pokémon one but yeah, it's broken down into pieces and you just solve smaller ones to fill in the bigger picture. They're pretty easy from what I've seen in the previous games but still enjoyable.

I cracked this open today, and while solid, the controls feel...different from other Picross games, and it sorely needs a zoom function for puzzles bigger than 10x10. Still, I'm enjoying it.

It's as big as the Picross e games are...and they cost money. So this is okay.

@Shadowlink

EDIT: Fixed. They are the same puzzles in a different order.

@WrathOfSamus777

It's not for sale. It is 45 puzzles, plus the Micross (which is at least 20 in and of itself, though none are overly difficult to solve).

I was going to buy this until I found out it was only 45 puzzles. That's pretty much like a demo.

@WrathOfSamus777

Well, it's a freebie, so....

@WrathOfSamus777

It might not matter but there are two ways to play, so really there's 90 unique puzzles, just 45 specific images.

Finished all the puzzles! Took me 40 hours, not using any hints or guides. Mega Picross #30 is the true final boss: I must have tried it a dozen times and never got past the first dozen blocks or so before being stumped as to which blocks I could fill in next. Finally, after finishing every other puzzles, I figured I'd just take a guess at that point on a few blocks being empty and finished it, but I still feel like I had to be missing something.

So yeah, Picross. It is addicting. This little package is a pretty nice silver lining for the otherwise hugely disappointing My Nintendo...

@nate38

Glad to hear you enjoyed it! This was indeed a silver lining on the downer My Nintendo. We need more of these little gems! What the heck Nintendo!?

I just got a New Nintendo 2DS XL and finished transferring all my games over. And I went poking through all the apps on there, and all the social features, and it started me down one of my Nintendo History Nostalgia "wasn't this weird!?!?" rabbit holes... which led me to My Nintendo, and finally, this game.

...wasn't this weird!?!?

A puzzle game that can only be obtained from a customer rewards service branded off of a different ten-year old game? It makes sense when you have the context: Twilight Princess HD was just coming out, My Nintendo was a way to incentivize people to play their mobile games, and Picross was a hot and easy template to plug something into. Will future historians be able to piece together the perfect storm that led to this game's creation?

Anyway, this is my first Picross game, and I just wanted to try it out more for the novelty than anything. Installed Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp and Pokemon Rumble, linked my Nintendo account to them to get the platinum coins, and then uninstalled them. Downloaded this game, and... actually had a lot of fun with it! I might even play more of it, this is great!

What's your guys' favorite Picross game? How was Picross 3D? The next evolution, or a fun-but-less-elegant spin-off?

There's a new one coming out in a couple days! Wait, maybe that's what set me down the rabbit hole...

@Secret_Tunnel I played a lot of Mario's Picross and a fair amount of Picross 3D. I like 3D Picross! It's probably not quite as clean as 2D, but it works.

@Secret_Tunnel

Pokemon Picross kept me engaged for quite a while with it's Freemium style carrots. Add in the various achievements/challenges, Pokemon catching & powers it was actually quite addictive. Slow progress, but for a game like Picross where you only really need to play in small chunks, it works well.
04/22/20, 03:03
Picross 3D is my fave, though I also don't particularly like 2D picross. Definitely a different kind of beast.

@Secret_Tunnel

Picross DS is a game I have played a dozen times, hard-resetting it every time I reach the end. For me it is the ultimate Picross game. Perfect controls, little animations of your completed puzzles, it was simply a 10/10.
