Hey guys, I hope you're enjoying the newest Mario title: "Super Mario Galaxy Wahooooo" (according to Charles Martinet on the load-up screen at least).

So how many stars do you have? Which galaxies have you most enjoyed? Favorite power-up? Be sure to mark spoilers though!

I thought they removed tripping from Galaxy after people complained about it in Brawl?

@anon_mastermind

lol

Did anyone watch the "creative play" video on the Nintendo Channel? I learned a technique I'd never have found out about otherwise: the double kick. Just spin as you initiate a long jump and BAM! It takes care of enemies like the Hammer Bros. in one attack.

Also, the "super play" video is insane. Those who say the 3D Mario games don't "flow" like the 2D ones need to check it out.

I've never been able to pull the double kick off :(

@GelatinousEncore

You need an enemy in front of you for it to work. I thought it was hard at first but it's actually not that difficult to pull off. I did it on a Wiggler.

Or you can be smart and switch to Luigi

I used Luigi as much as possible as soon as I was able to. Every time he showed up at the beginning of a level, and once I beat Bowser, I never switched back to Mario.

So...you like green.

@Griptor

I'll kick your wiggler.

@rebonack
I can't stand his lack of traction though. His jumping ability is obviously insane though. His double jump is probably higher than Mario's triple jump.

I used Luigi for all the green stars. His jumping helps a ton.

@Pandareus

Where did you saw that super play video?

@linkman

On the Nintendo Channel. You know, the one you have to download on your Wii.

So I have 125 stars now, and I think I'm going to take a break. I have several games I would like to get to, and I figure the Green Star challenge will be fresh in a month or so.

I'm currently sitting at 62 stars. Boy I'm slow compared to you guys! I suppose it doesn't help that I just never want this game to end, so I'm taking my time. I've done every Prankster comet that's shown up so far. I haven't even started World 5 yet, but some of them have already been really tricky! I'm planning on playing some more tonight, so maybe I'll manage to get to 70 and "beat" the game. That's how many it takes, right?

I have 126 Stars now, the Green Star Challenge is a lot of fun, since I get to really explore the levels a lot more closely now.

I'm still at 241. 242 is a bitch. I don't think it is even necessarily that difficult, it's just kind of annoying to have to play all of the easy parts in this (fairly) long level just to get to the one or two hard parts near the end that I feel kind of out of control with and then die instantly and start it all over. And then you try to rush through the easy parts and get sloppy and make dumb mistakes. I'm even beginning to wonder if a good strategy would be to get to the end on the normal Grandmaster star and practice it over and over (killing myself at the end end instead of taking the star) just to get that part down, because I have gotten there a few times but then it gets me.

But to be honest, I'm not sure if I care enough. Between work and grad school and everything I've become more of a casual gamer (as far as not having the mental energy to push myself super hard, not as far as types of games) and let me tell you, whatever you feel about the rest of the game, there is no denying that star 242 is hardcore. Maybe I'll move on for now and come back to it (or not) when I have the time and energy to play it right.

@WindWaker

Yes, you need 70 stars to open up the path to the showdown with Bowser.

@Zero

Whoa, whoa, whoa.

WHOA.

Zero, you're the guy who's always saying modern games are far too easy! You're the one who desires white-knuckle challenge in today's titles! You're the chap that appreciates old-school gaming for its high demand of skill! And I always stood by you with those comments, brother! You're not backing down from this challenge--no way, no how. You might feel beaten, ashamed, humiliated, and emasculated from those Hammer Bros, circular beams, or pull-star lasers handing you your hindquarters on a platter time after time, but you know what you need to do? You pick yourself right up, mister, and you get back in the race, stomping whatever foes necessary, flipping whatever switches necessary, and long-jumping through that annoying laser/octopus part like your dignity depended on it (it does)! This is gaming, son! A challenge posed by machine to its longtime rival: man! Dry your tears, pick up that Wiimote, call in sick, and hop-and-bop like there's no friggin' tomorrow!

(also, you can crouch and walk under the Boomerang Bros' weapons at the end--makes the last tussle a little easier)
06/17/10, 18:50
@Zero Don't give up.

Keep at it. Plan your attack.

And when the game congratulates you for making it to the very end, take it to heart. It will make you feel much better and a true champion.

Couldn't afford the game at launch, but my brother bought me a copy as a birthday gift! Naturally, I couldn't wait to play it until my b-day (sunday) so I gave it a shot just now. I'm only three or four stars in, but I'm totally in love with everything already. Thank god it's friday tomorrow or I might have had to call in sick for a few days.

@Pandareus Though I kind of half get that comic, it seems to be making Galaxy out to be some insanely difficult game. But it's not, really.
