Just curious if anyone else picked up this set? It only being $10 for the first week is a crazy good deal. I still have the physical version, but couldn't pass this up.

Just finished Metroid Prime.

Looks like we can add this to the list of critically acclaimed Nintendo games that I don't like then.

Disappointing.

I should add that it's mediocre for a Nintendo game.

My problems with Prime are mostly that the world never felt alive. I just felt like I was going through areas designed for a game and not areas where creatures lived. The game was also way too easy most of the time and a lot of the bosses weren't very fun (although I did like the second half of the last boss, that was fun). The game also just kinda ended. You beat the last boss and then wham cutscene where you just fly off. No dramatic escape, you don't even see anything of what happens to the Space Pirates. Maybe they could have had an escape sequence with you running alongside Chozo Ghosts or something? I just wanted something more from the ending. Swapping beams all the time was always annoying., especially for doors.
Also, the design of the world and placements of upgrades just felt like padding. There is no reason for a lot of the upgrades to be spaced that far apart.

There are some things I liked. Enemies were cool and such. I LOVED scanning for things, really helped to flesh out the world and give you a sense of time. The Chozo and Space Pirates have always interested me so I liked being able to look into them a bit more.. Atmosphere was great, but kinda let down because of the world.
I feel like I would have enjoyed this game more, if not for everyone hyping it up to be the best thing since sliced bread. This honestly comes no where close to Super Metroid or Fusion. I liked it more than Other M in parts, but other parts didn't feel as good. I might have to sit on it for a while to decide where it fits in compared to the other games.

Funny how different the tastes of Nintendo fans can be. Prime is one of those games that I totally revere. My former roomie and some friends were playing it a couple years ago while I drank wine and couldn't shut up about everything I found brilliant about it. Sorry you can't feel the same way! I don't think they did either... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

No-one from Adelaide is allowed to use that word .

Interesting that you hate the game, but love scanning. Not like Anand.

Hmm is this an ancient bump? Thank Kami for the reply search actually working on my desktop.

I guess this is the right thread to bump! I don't even remember if I've posted in here yet or not!

Anyways I'm resurrecting this because I am currently replaying Metroid Prime, one of my very fave games of all time! Being a chronic replayer, I get a new experience, new appreciation, and new understanding of things with each playthrough. And boy is this already awesome.

I thank Federation Force for really getting me back in the Metroid mood again!

There's no words to tell you how much I love this atmosphere.

Oh and as a huge Super Metroid lover I must say.....I think Prime 1 is "better". Really. Cuz Prime 1 is just something fucking else.
Honestly, I would go for a remaster/remake of this so hard. The visuals are fantastic and so detailed but something always feels off about the FOV or something.

Oh and the Wii controls almost make the game more of a challenge since you have better aim, for better or worse. Lock on isn't real lock on unless you set it to the old way.

-----
I got the trilogy when it released and got on Prime 1 pretty quick, made it halfway through 2 and got stuck, and never got around to finishing my second game of Corruption. I believe I only made it like 50% on my second playthrough. And that itself was already a few years ago I think.

That's a shitload of hours though. And I always feel KINDA weird "wasting" time playing a game I've already played before as opposed to new ones. I dunno. I love what I love and like to stick with it and really figure out what makes it tick.

Prime 1 is so shockingly good I almost wonder if anyone can recreate something that good in 2016's "modern gaming" landscape. But then I have to remember how good Nintendo's great games have been, like 3D World, Tropical Freeze, Smash 4, Splatoon, BOTW, and just wonder when Metroid will join those ranks again. They can do it, they just have to be allowed to.

I feel that way a lot too. You just have to remind yourself why you play games in the first place. You don't have an obligation to finish or even play newer games. If replaying the same thing 50 times over is just as fulfilling as playing 50 new games, then go for it.

Good God Prime is divine. Better than Super, yup. Prime 1 is the Metroid game to beat. It's Super Metroid in 3D, and then some.

I saw this fucking weirdo on NeoGAF who had a huge Super Metroid fetish and claimed every game in the series since has been a disappointment, going so far as to say Corruption was "trash". Fucking holy hyperbole holy shit. I mean, it was ridiculous he was downplaying Prime and saying it was sorta close, but still so far. What? Prime is fucking Super Metroid in 3D. There's next to nothing it doesn't capture that was in that game.

I mean, I love Super as much as the next guy, and before this playthrough of Prime I'd probably have argued it for being the best (though of course a case can still be made), but now I must say Prime takes top spot. Damn near perfection this game.

And now I'm really getting used to the Pointer controls again. Now I want Wiimotes back for NX! It's sort of uncomfortable (my hands hurt during and after playing haha), but it's also incredible.

Exciting to play 2 again as well!!

Yeah, Prime is awesome, easily one of the best games of this entire millennium. It's also the kind of game I'd love to see from Nintendo again--technologically impressive and still incredible and groundbreaking from a gameplay perspective (thankfully, Breath of the Wild has a shot at blowing my mind all over again).

NeoGAF's kind of a weird place sometimes. But I would argue that Prime doesn't quite capture Super Metroid's effortless sense of speed and momentum (which makes backtracking a bit easier and more fun).

Regarding Super Metroid, when was the last time you replayed it? It's got some impeccable design in its own right, but really both games don't need to go head-to-head when they're already both sublime.

@TriforceBun
Recently. I always play it recently :)

Super is "repetitive" though, and way easy. I think Prime does basically everything better, with better level design, combat, puzzles, and even the atmosphere/world.

They don't need to go head to head, but I think Prime ends up being the better Metroid game. It's amazing they basically did Super in 3D, an even greater feat than Zelda's transition.

But yeah, I suppose Samus is clunky compared to how she is in other games. But the Wii controls speeds her up a lot.

That's actually what I liked about Other M, recreating that feel of agility from the 2D games as opposed to invoking the walking tank style of the Prime games.

Analogue controls and some less wonky missile aiming, and that sort of third-person 3D style would have been near perfect.

I can think of a few things actually. There are several little tricks and such in Super that are not in Prime, like wall jumping and shine sparking. Those tricks make the game way more replayable than Prime in my opinion, because you can replay the game several times and playthrough things in several different orders. Personally I also prefer how the story is presented in Super compared to Prime although I am a big fan of the scanning of things for background lore. Would love to see that in a proper 2d Metroid game have something like that, I know AM2R did but that is fangame. Did the mechanic well though.

Funny how opinions work, I think the complete opposite of that. However, I also think the games are hard to compare because they set out to be different games.

@Shadowlink
I think it's a crying shame that we will most likely not get another Metroid game like Other M, because I thought that the gameplay style it presented held a lot of promise.

I didn't mind the digital control, since it lead to super-snappy platforming, but the dodge move definitely should've been less spammable.

METROID PRIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IT'S LIKE I ERASED MY MEMORY AND I CAN ENJOY IT AGAIN LIKE I DID THE FIRST TIME (OR EVEN MORE!!!!!).

NOW I WANT ME A PRIME 4!!!

Ahem and yes now I believe I must play through all 3 of these.

I can only imagine what kind of Prime game Retro could make today with all that time and experience they've had, along with modern technology and game design ideas. They have soooooo much to work with.

Good God Prime is so good.

Now I'm incredibly hyped to play 2 and 3. It's been long enough now that my memory of all 3 games is sorta shaky aside from obvious standout moments.

I've definitely improved skillwise as a gamer since I last played any of these, and it makes a huuuuuuge difference when appreciating the mechanics and design. Many things can just go over your head I find. Repeated playthroughs of amazing games is just where it's at for me. Repeated playthroughs is what made stuff like Bioshock Infinite go from a disappointing game to kne of my fave games of all time. There's just something magical about multiple playthroughs.

I knew about quick charge shots before but didn't realize just how quick you could rattle em off. I also didn't even know until this playthrough that the wave beam has homing abilities. Like...what?

Prime 1 has the same problem as Super though in that it's way too easy. Look forward to the challenge of 2. And I remember 3 being even easier than 1.

I somehow even forgot about the ice beam (Seriously! Even after reading stuff on ice blasts, seeing the white doors, etc!) AND that Samus gets the Black suit (Phazon suit right?) !

@carlosrox
Are you playing on Hard Mode? Can't you jump straight into that in the Trilogy?

About a year ago, I also started replaying the Trilogy, so I could eventually soldier through and finish Prime 2/start Prime 3. But then I stalled. Maybe I'll try to get back into it, too. But my backlog is soooo huge!
