Welcome to the official discussion thread for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Every new generation a great dawn emerges where a new game in the acclaimed Super Smash Bros. series graces Nintendo's newest consoles… for the Wii U, that time is almost upon us. Nintendo is truly pulling out all the stops with this one. Here's the breakdown on what we can expect… (Learn more at the Super Smash Bros. website.)

1.) 45+ playable characters (new characters, returning fighters, or accessible via alt costumes)
2.) Releasing November 21st, November 28th, or December 5th depending on your region
3.) Tons of content; from trophies to levels to music tracks to items to pokemon to modes… it seemingly never ends!
4.) Customizable Move-sets
5.) Many control setups; Wii U Gamepad, standard Wii U options, Gamecube controllers, even your 3DS!
6.) Online capable (and encouraged)
7.) Check out Nintendo's 50 Things You Should Know about Smash Bros!
8.) Stages exclusive to the Wii U version. Some epic stages!
9.) Amiibo Support for all existing Amiibos
10.) Gameplay lands somewhere between Melee and Brawl

As you can see, there really is something for everyone, perhaps more than ever before. As I wrote this whole post up, I was listening to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl soundtrack and remembering the hours and days and weeks and months of fun I've had with that game. This will be no different and really will shake the Wii U community up in the best ways. Nintendo is on the eve of quite possible the most acclaimed game the console will have. This is a very exciting moment for Nintendo gamers. Speaking back on the music, you can listen to a bunch of neat samples from the upcoming game at the SmashBros.com Music Page. Be sure to check out Kapp'n's Song! It's a personal favorite of mine. The 3DS version is to have two-songs per stage but the Wii U version is meant to have that and more, even some songs from past games as well.

Please enjoy a few of my favorite images found on the official Super Smash Bros. website.

The release date in North America is November 21st and it was just moved up to November 28th in Europe. For all other regions you can expect December 5th. In the mean time, there's always the 3DS version which looks incredible in it's own right! You can discuss it in Jargon's thread here; Super Smash Bros. 3DS. We should aim to keep this thread focused on the Wii U version so that the 3DS discussion ends up in it's right place. Keep in mind that the Daily Updates are still being provided by Sakurai (for a few more weeks at least) and the best place to find and discuss those is Stephen's Super Smash Bros. News Discussion (Roster Spoilers) Now With Daily Images thread. I do my best to update that daily with the Sakurai posts.

Who is your main? What are you most excited for? Finally, be sure to have your friends added on your Wii U! I'll do my best to keep this thread updated with the various users who are playing this online.

Hah, I've actually batted (with Ness) a Villager's Gyroid as he was riding it, and it launched him the other way offscreen extremely quickly. It was hilarious!

Why do you feel the need to do that or to share that you have done so? It just seems like somebody trying to start a conflict or act smug.

I agree. And this isn't even the first time he's done this.

played For Glory for like an hour today! Lots of laggy matches, though. Either I'm in Smash Hell or my connection is acting up. Nobody was a jerk so I think it was just a spate of bad connections (with the problem probably on my end).

Had a handful of good matches here and there, though.

I did some For Glory last week and got this replay here.

It started off pretty evenly but eventually I kinda lost my groove and between that, me not being used to the matchup (Charizard and Meta Knight is a very interesting matchup I must say) and just being rusty I ended up falling short.

@pokepal148
If you timed those side smashes better you'd have KO'd him like 5 times! You held onto those for too long!
*sends replay to the @ScrubQuotesX twitter account.*

@nate38
I'd hate you if that was me.

Super Smash Con has started! Obviously I like the tournaments, but I also love how they do other less intense events. Like the Smash 64 combo contest.

@pokepal148 I like how after you got KO'd you both retreat to opposite sides of the stage and then rush each other. That's some anime right there.

You should use Charizard's side and down tilts more! They're actually useful since the buffs! The side tilt in particular is quicker and more reliable than the side smash now, so until they get into KO range it's usually the better option. And use your shield! I don't think you used it once, except to roll. Nice match though. MK is a tough matchup for pretty much anyone, let alone big lumbering targets like the Zard.

@carlosrox Haha we had a good laugh about it on the character select screen. Unfortunately our next two matches were super laggy. Turns out it was on my end, I restarted my router and things were smoother after that.

Ike's spike hitbox is soooooo bad. Don't think I've ever landed it except in this exact situation.
And then I'm also spoiled by Zelda's spike, which is super easy and probably the best in the game.
Sweetspot? Spike! Sourspot? Spike! Spikes for all!

Thinking about going to another local tourney this weekend. I should be free when it's on, which doesn't happen too often. Anyone wanna help me practice?

I rearranged my controls a bit. I am now using X for the Shield and Y to grab. The C-stick is now set to do tilts instead of smash attacks and the left triggers are both set to do jumps.

I assure you that the fact that I'm using the L-Trigger to jump is in no way related to the fact that using a trigger to jump is the best way to get the timing right for the sliding Rock Smash trick shown below (although to be fair it also makes it much easier to land aerials when you aren't trying to use your thumb to both attack and jump.)

08/13/16, 01:05
@pokepal148 Oh yeah, I have R set to jump myself. Makes up-smashes and up-specials much easier when dashing or in shield. Not that any of my mains really benefit from those...I used to get Elevator KOs out-of-shield all the time with Zelda, but after that patch that added shield-stun, it's much less reliable.

Didn't know it could work with other moves, like Rock Smash. I think that's an exception, most characters can only slide with their up-smashes and up-specials as far as I know.

Goodness Grief I forgot how much of a monster my Bowser Amiibo is:

Hey Hammerlord, I think I found you a worthy opponent.

And here's some matches I did after switching those buttons around.

Anybody in the mood for some nightmares?

08/18/16, 21:39
@nate38 What a random hack. I liked Mr. Game & Watch, Ike, and the Kirby characters. It also kind of works with Wii Fit Trainer.

@nate38
Haha I love these sort of things. Wish they showed more than just the taunts.
08/19/16, 07:45

Been on a bit of a roll lately! I think I'd actually have a 100% win rate in my last 50 if I didn't drop a game to someone last night. Probably helps that I haven't been playing as Zelda much...

Palutena doesn't have many tools without Customs, but the few she's got aren't bad.

THE ONE TRUE FINAL SMASH

08/23/16, 00:49
Replay time :D Oh boy!!!

Some of my faves since my last replays.

Tough round!

Title says it all. Just lookit the difference in style.

Love this shit. Damn great round. Ugh I hate blocking hits that are numerous. Instinct always tells me that I blocked the first attack and don't need to block the rest. I find it annoying to get messed up on that simple shit so often. It's like I'm giving them free hits just because I'm forgetting to hold the fuckin button, even though I obviously blocked it in the first place. Kirby's down air in this video is the perfect example of it. I even block like 3 out of 5 hits!

Savage revenge story.

I still dabble with other characters in For Glory now and again and here's a Zelda match (against my girl Samus no less!!!!). She hits way, way too hard. And being on the receiving end of it isn't fun. I'd hate me if I was this guy. But as you can see, I don't know how to play the reflect game.
And fuck knows how her up special works.

Hilariously fast fuck over. I'd hate this if it were me. I also have no idea how he died at the end there. He shoulda still been able to get back, unless he was quitting there.

This was a dog fight.

And this my friends is why you never throw a game or give up. And there's another "I blocked the first two, just fucking give me the third hit" in here as well.

Second round with the same guy. Again, underdogs can always win.

Okay last one for now. Sexxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxy round!

The online Tourney Mode will no longer have dev-made tourneys after September. Players can still make their own Tourneys, though those don't take the form of actual brackets and are based on a points system. We tried one of those once, and...meh.

I think I tried the official Tourneys a dozen times or so, and won a handful. They were a decent change of pace from For Glory sometimes, but the 3-minute game limit was lame and encouraged some campy play styles. I'll miss them, but not that much.

EDIT:
this glitch lol wow

So this was an interesting wrinkle to my night.

I guess I got matched with somebody using mods? It was fun for the first 30 minutes or so...then I unplugged my modem.
