Hype is over, someone make a Game thread!

Done! I'll spiffy thus one up a but when I get back from out of state. Here for some sudden family business.

However, my copy of Xenoblade Chronicles X is arriving tomorrow and I am stoked! The reviews have been generally positive. I guess the game lacks slightly in areas but they can be overlooked for the sheer density and fun this game has. Looking forward to diving into it next week. Hopefully when I return sunday.

Man I just got to the lion dude boss fight and there are like 5 enemies to fight at once and I get INSTANTLY LEVELED. I guess I'm just nowhere near the right levels for this yet? Time to do more side missions? I seem to be in a weird spot though where most of the side missions I have opened up are still above me too. Blah.

@PogueSquadron Pretty much. Or find a FAQ online that is what I do. Wish the game was better about this.

@Zero Don't forget to reset that fight until you get the Homura as a drop.

For the life of me I can't find Nagi. Did the affinity mission, supposedly unlocked him as a playable character, but he is NEVER where the game says he will be. Bah.

@pokepal148 The what? Don't care.

@Zero

Maybe a better question for the forums is, "why should we care?" (but politely)

@pokepal148

What's a Homura and why should it be picked up? I'm not at that boss yet but I'd like to know.
07/13/16, 13:26
@Zero That really sucks. Usually I'd just take the mission and figure I'd complete it by accident, but I don't think you can accept story and affinity missions at the same time? In one case, at least someone points you in the right direction. Between this and Dark Souls, I'm getting a bit tired of "How was I supposed to know that??" moments.

@pokepal148 @DrFinkelstein Yeah sorry didn't mean that in an insulting way, more just that once I beat them I have no interest in playing them over and over again. I'm the type who likes to keep moving forward.

And honestly... the game is starting to wear on me a bit. I'm still enjoying it but I'm getting so caught up in a lot of pointless side stuff at times. Like I seriously spent like 3 hours last night trying to get to the end of the little lava area (for a side quest) right by the boss I'm stuck on, and it isn't even a long area, but the enemies sort of gang up on you a lot so I kept dying and dying and making some small progress leveling up but still dying and dying and kind of was getting frustrated at how oddly paced this game is at times.

I did not make it to the end, lol. Probably should go do other stuff first and come back but it feels like it SHOULD be possible at the levels I am at... just very hard to not get ganged up on. I try to move slowly and pull one enemy at a time to fight but then random ones show up seemingly out of nowhere...

And more and more hours pass. I dunno. I'm still enjoying it enough to keep playing it but it's frustrating to me how much time I spend doing random stuff I might not even be ready for yet just because the game isn't good at making it clear what you ARE ready for yet.

@DrFinkelstein It's an incredibly powerful thermal based Skell weapon. It matches your average G-buster and if your opponent has the "Blaze" Status effect (which is really easy to inflict) it will do additional damage.

On top of that it's a thermal weapon which means it benefits from the Amdusias's armor boosts.

@Zero

Avoiding getting too sucked into side quests will be my primary goal when I return to this game. I just want to keep it moving now that the novelty of general exploration is over. Plus, as you said with the enemies ganging up, certain aspects can be tiring in this game.

@pokepal148

Good to know! I'll keep an eye out for this when I'm at that point in the game.
07/14/16, 13:38
@DrFinkelstein Yeah but as Mop it Up warned me earlier and I'm finding to be true now, it's easy to end up underleveled at bosses if you don't do enough on the side. Heck I was doing tons of sidequests and still got to this boss fight and got instantly destroyed. I don't think the game really lets you just focus on the main quest for very long without throwing stuff at you that you need to do side stuff to level up to be ready for.

@Zero

True. Oi. I'll just take 2+ years to beat this game like I did it's predecessor. That'll be the ticket!

Side quests don't help too much with leveling in this game... you just have to kill things
07/15/16, 16:52
@mrbiggsly Yeah but you usually kill a lot of things while sidequesting. And it's a bit more motivating to me to have a specific goal versus just randomly running around killing things.
07/15/16, 21:17

Besides, if you don't do side quests you won't get to build the Biahno Water-Purification Plant or possibly get to teach some poor lost blade member how to swim.

Somehow 70 hours into the game and I just now discover that I can hire super high level scouts. I was at level 37 and still getting my butt kicked on the boss I was getting my butt kicked on while I was at 32, and sick of leveling up, and this is when the guy I was using as my 4th couldn't be in my party for some reason so I only had three high level characters... so I was looking online to see if I could find some hints for this battle and someone mentioned hiring a level 60 scout. That seemed too cheap though so I hired a level 44 to help me.

Still feels like cheating though. Whatever. I still barely won the fight, lol. In fact, I died and the 30 seconds started counting down and my friends finished the boss off with like 7 seconds left...

One of the things I don't like about this game is you can be doing pretty well for awhile in a fight and then out of nowhere... dead. Like seriously, full health drained in seconds, and of course when your one character dies you're just basically done. Not really sure if I am doing something wrong?

Also, on rare occasions my teammates revive me. Is this like totally random or do I have some control over it?!

@Zero

I thought for sure we mentioned in this thread about Scouts.. Yeah, there are 30 some-odd pages, but yeah.

Hey, thats (real) life, brother. Or rather, 'death.'

Your teammates reviving you: you have to have enough TP. Sometimes when I'm about to buy the farm, I DON'T do a TP-draining move because I KNOW that if theres enough, someone will come revive me. If you're asking if you can PROMPT them to Revive you? Its been a while, but I don't believe so.
07/21/16, 02:45
Do you all share the same TP?! I thought they had their own for some reason.
07/21/16, 03:18
@Zero

There is a meter somewhere. I can't remember. I'm thinking bottom middle? I really gotta get back in this game. Tomorrow, sometime, I'll play it and report back.
07/21/16, 21:05
So I tried to play last night, and holy crap, I have no idea what I'm doing anymore.

I leveled up a few of my lower folks over near 322 with the aid of my Skell, and that was good. Bought some new armor and the like, but not much else. As for the Combat / TP, I was trying to hard to remember what to do that I didn't really get to examine the screen much, but yes, its in the bottom lefthand quadrant of the screen, and you can see some yellow 'tabs' that fill up letting you know that you can revive people, I think? Note that Overdrive will use one up as well (I THINK..) and then you won't be able to revive people until you've filled up another.

Look through your Soul Voices or Arts or whatever and see what kinds of moves build TP, and don't fill your own Arts list up with moves that USE TP too much. I think I have 2? If all of your Arts use TP, you won't really have a way to build TP that much. Make sense? Basic economics here.
07/24/16, 01:37
You (or a party member) need to have 3,000 TP to revive a member. The CPU tends to burn through their TP and they won't save up for 3,000 if someone is fallen, so you can't really rely on them. For this reason, I always make sure to protect my character as much as possible, including using lots of the max HP-up abilities.
07/24/16, 03:19
I just got my Skell last night. It wasn't too bad except for this one Proficiency Exam. That one mission was just a microchosm of every flaw this game has. I couldn't use Reward Tickets to get the collectible needed to complete the mission. I had NO idea where it was in Oblivia (hint, it was on the complete other side of the continent through hard enemies in a really weird path). I had to look it up online.

Did they playtest this stuff? This game is otherwise super awesome, but the Gathering missions are ABYSMAL. I'm not a fan of this 'needle in a haystack' concept of game design. It's just not fun. When I know what enemy I need to kill and where it is, or where a collectible is, that's great, but in a world this big, I don't have time to explore an entire continent just for THREE Bagfleas or whatever they're called.
