Splatoon is Nintendo's unique twist on the shooter genre. Shoot ink on both your friends and environments to win the match! Players can turn into squids and 'swim' through their team's ink color. Players can also use their team's ink color to slow down enemy movement. It's ink or be inked in this chaotic marriage of third person shooters, de Blob, and good ole fashioned paintball.

I joined Night Owl too of course. Screw the sun. Stupid bees. Plus, purple. I expected Night to win popularity, but wow, did it ever.

For once, this was a pretty good fest. I had a good number of wins, and most of the ones that weren't were close ones, so they weren't frustrating. Most of my team losses were against other Night teams, so I had a hunch it would win the most games in my experience. It was actually closer than I expected from my experience.

I'm not home right now so I can't link to anything, but THE NEXT SPLATFEST WILL BE THE FINAL SPLATFEST!
Callie vs. Marie.

I'm kind of saddened that they'll be phasing the Splatfest out, but I guess it makes sense with the NX looming.
Still, pretty sad.
I will play when the time comes. Team Callie all the way!

Be sure to check your email for a link to vote for the stages you want to play.

@ploot

"Looming?" Isn't it AT LEAST 6 months away? Pretty lame to pull the plug so soon (I know you guys are still playing), unless they're REALLY trying to have the Wii U tank.

And yes, I got that email, too. Played the first one, haven't touched it since. I guess its fitting that I play this one for the bookend.

Not sure who to pick… probably Team Marie.

And while Splatfests are super fun competitions, the awesome normal modes will still all exist. It's not like the online is done. So this sucks but they're probably trying to distance time between now and that Splatoon 2 NX Launch Title… AMIRITE? (or at least one year into it's life)

That said… here's the e-mail in question…

I think if it really comes down to it, I want my last Splatoon Splatfest to have one of the levels from the Testfire, and one of my all-time favorite levels still to this day, Saltspray Rig. So I voted for that. What did you all vote for? If I could pick all three I'd go with Saltspray Rig, Camp Triggerfish, and Flounder Heights. Oh, and when you vote, you get to see this nifty image.

@DrFinkelstein

I'll vote for Camp Triggerfish if I get that email. It's one of my favorites stages, and it's perfect for a summertime Splatfest!

Unfortunately, I'm going to be out of town during the final Splatfest. I'll be rooting for Team Marie!

I'm okay with Splatfests ending, they never did much for me. If you could actually join and team with your friends, they could have been interesting.

I voted for Piranha Pit, that and Dome are my two faves for Turf since they have the most surface area. Lotsa painting going on! The Rig is nice too, I think it's the only one where the bases are not at the opposite ends of the stage of each other. I'd have liked a few more stages to try something like that. I'm not a fan of the Camp for Turf, it takes too long for the gates to open and until then, chargers are too powerful there.

As for the theme itself, I don't care which side wins and have no clues which one will be more popular or attract the stronger players, so I may end up flipping a coin unless something convinces me otherwise.

Is kinda sad to see the Splatfest ending but I had good times, mostly.

I'm petty much good with any stage (except the Depot) but the Dome, Camp and Flounder Heights would probably be my personal choice. With Camp Triggerfish being my favorite stage in the game.

Did you vote for the 'Camp' Chris?
07/03/16, 17:35
Indeed I did.

Splatfest is live! Team Callie seems to be pretty solid, and not just because I'm on it :)
[Edit] I realize that I should say what stages were picked. Walleye Warehouse, Kelp Dome, and Moray Towers. Solid maps, in my opinion.

I'll have to play some tonight -- I don't want to miss out on the last Splatfest! The stage selection is pretty good I think, but I'm sad that Saltspray Rig wasn't chosen.

Last splatfest! Kinda sad, but it'll be fun doing Turf Wars all weekend.

@Ponderus

Go Team Callie!

@canonj

Yeah, the Rig might still be my favorite stage.

Had a pretty good Splatfest after my last few were pretty grating. Had some good teammates and got my Squidling to Callie Queen in pretty good time.

Messed around a bit and I have to say, I forgot how powerful the Heavy Splitting Deco's loadout is.

Like I basically used the Kraken to break into the central area of the Kelp Dome and from there effortlessly popped off the nine people who dropped by to try and get rid of me.

I also forgot how much Moray Towers can screw over the Splatling. Although the Point Sensor is really nice on that map.

I'm gonna go head first into some Splatfesting once my guests leave.
07/23/16, 15:34
I didn't get in there yet. What, do I have like 10 hours left or something?
07/24/16, 01:34
@Mr_Mustache

I think it ends at like 3 or 4 AM tomorrow (Sunday) morning.

How'd it go? I decided to fall asleep on the couch after eating half a Little Caesar's pizza instead.

Looks like I was on the losing team despite my efforts, but just barely! That was a fun night. Gonna miss 'em. Splatoon is just terrific.

You're gonna have your own splatfest later today. (sorry )

Marie won both in popularity and matches. I earned 18 Sea Snails as a Team Callie person. Along with the 300,000k I had in the 'bank' I now have all my equipment upgraded and I own all the equipment. So once I actually fill some empty slots, I'll have maxed out all equipment.

As people come to expect perhaps now, I did take stats of my final Splatfest. It wasn't as great as others in the past and because of a Netflix session in the house my final third of my matches were lag-filled. In the end here's how I turned out.

Total Matches Played - 34 Matches
Most Played Map - Kelp Dome (only one under Moray Towers; and I played Walleye Warehouse in only about a fifth of my matches)
Best Player In Match - 4 Matches (usually this is higher but even when I was playing awesome I was out done by other team members, one guy in particular)
Best Consecutive Win Streak - 5 Matches (the last five matches actually)
Worst Losing Streak - 3 Matches (this occurred twice)
Callie Power Finished With - 1657 (at least it was above the starting '1600')
Total Points Earned - 35,478 points
Average Points Earned - 1,043 points
Win Totals - 20 Matches (of the 34 total matches)
Best Win Percentage - 66.0% (in match number 19
Best Domination Percentage - 26.2% (also in match number 19, but nobody had any dropped players)
Highest Points Earned in a Match - 1,396 (appropriately enough, this was in my final match; number 34)
Closest Match Percentage - 1.00% (this happened in Match 8 on Walleye Warehouse
Starting Stage - Moray Towers
Ending Stage - Kelp Dome

A quick aside, I was really bummed by the map choices. I feel like these three were not the best possible fit. I would have replaced Walleye Warehouse with Saltspray Rig and probably replaced Kelp Dome with Camp Triggerfish. Moray Towers, I enjoy this one despite being horrible if you're up against more than one sniper.

I did end up starting and finishing the Splatfest with wins. I really hate ending a Splatoon session on a loss and will often keep playing until a win when I am ready to be done. When this happens in Splatfest though I always stop recording stats (and usually stop playing) after I reach that highest mark, even if it's a loss.

I'm a bummed dude that they didn't just let us keep the Splatfest Tees considering, what's the point. While I was able to get enough Sea Snails to really make a final dent in my inventory, I'm kind of bummed they didn't just max out everyone as a 'Thanks for playing'. Removing the incentive to be the best in this final Splatfest would have been a nice touch since there's no more happening. I only missed out on 'six' so I don't quite care but I think it would have helped some other folks. Plus I know someone who had this as their first and last Splatfest. Considering this they would have appreciated the boost.

So what next then? Splatoon 2 on the way? Launch NX title? First year NX title? Holiday 2017 title?

I do think they're working on or at least planning out the next Splatoon for NX. I think it'd be in their best interest to release it earlier in the lifespan of the console as this is the kind of game that has a long shelf-life and would help drive sales for years to come. Time will tell...
