Oh yeah, I forgot to post about finishing my series! I've been working on a series of levels which together are supposed to be like having my own Mario game, with things like progressive difficulty, secrets, world themes, etc. Some secrets contain powerups, making them worthwhile to seek out. It contains 37 levels in all,
starting with this one, and they're all numbered. Check 'em out if you're interested.
Here's a quick rundown of the kinds of ideas you'll find in each world:
World 1: Grass Land - SMB
The first world follows in the footsteps of World 1 in SMB1, starting with a basic ground level, followed by an underground level, though this one centers around the Spiketop enemy and there is a hidden powerup to help you through the level. The third level ramps things up with a platforming treetop stage, topped off with a straightforward castle.
World 2: Grassier Land - SMB3
This one is similar in structure to World 1, except that it's styled after SMB3 instead. The first level "introduces" the Super Leaf, which will help you deal with the stacks of enemies you'll come across. The second level is an underground stage where you have to carry a POW block to open the ways forward, followed by an "athletic" level using lotsa pipes, ending with a castle level that really heats things up! There are several secrets in this world holding powerups, so be on the lookout.
World 3: Cozy Cottage - NSMB
In this world, you'll first navigate through the dangers of the front yard, gaining the help of Yoshi to deal with huge caterpillars and vicious flowers from neglected gardens. Next, you'll move on to find this abandoned house may not be so empty after all, then leave through the overgrown back yard once again enlisting the help of Yoshi. Finally, you'll jump aboard a classic scrolling airship stage.
World 4: Tricky Triathlon - SMB
This world opens with a bouncy stage containing loads of spring boards and the Weird Mushroom powerup, followed by the obligatory water level, and then moves on to a sprint alongside kicked shells. In the finale castle, you'll arm yourself from head to toe, able to plow through enemies from above and below; just protect your sides!
World 5: Icy Icicles - SMB3
The difficulty starts to warm up in this frigid world, as you'll start off slipping and sliding through enemies on tracks. And jumping. Lotsa jumping. Next, you'll have to carefully travel through a structurally weak fortress, being careful to not destroy the floor beneath you, followed by a lovely ghost house that's been ravaged by frost and flooded from melted ice. Lastly, you'll have to find your way across a frozen ocean to engage in your first showdown with Bowser!
World 6: Gimmicky Gimmicks - NSMB
Starting off, you'll have to dodge enemies as you travel along a platform on tracks. In the next level, you'll be faced with a difficult choice: If you choose to save Yoshi, you'll be in for a tough level, whereas if you ditch him, you can take an easier route. But could you really be so cruel...? After that, your memory will be tested as you play a few memory minigames, and then your skills will be put to the test in the castle level as you must wall-jump through it.
World 7: Mount Montaña - SMB
First, you must scale the mountain both inside and out, watching out for moles and others obstacles which may fall on your head! At the top, you'll find out what it's like to play a Mario level upside-down, and then in the next level, you'll have to carefully climb back down the mountain without angering the local wildlife. At the end, you'll come across a tall tower, with no way around but through. Don't forget to look for hidden powerups!
World 8: Pyroclastic Palace - SMB3
Before you can make your way into Bowser's Castle, you must first navigate the outdoor area, which happens to be full of pesky flying Munchers! Next, you have no choice but to trek through a spooky ghost house, where enemies seem to multiply at alarming rates! Finally, in the third level you'll step foot into Bowser's Castle, where you must dodge a barrage of firebars before moving on to the final level containing a hunt for key coins to open the door to Bowser's room. The final showdown is a classic clash where you must use the environment to defeat Bowser instead of taking him on directly.
World 9: Extra Bonus - NSMB
This bonus world contains some ideas I couldn't fit anywhere else. It opens with infiltrating a nasty fortress to save a Yoshi from harm, followed by a stage where you must leave the past behind and continue looking ahead, or else bad things could happen... The third level utilises the Propeller Cap powerup for a series of challenges, and then it all ends with one last shot at revenge from Bowser! Because as with any good game, the final boss always returns at least once!
