Hype is over, someone make a Game thread!

Done! I'll spiffy thus one up a but when I get back from out of state. Here for some sudden family business.

However, my copy of Xenoblade Chronicles X is arriving tomorrow and I am stoked! The reviews have been generally positive. I guess the game lacks slightly in areas but they can be overlooked for the sheer density and fun this game has. Looking forward to diving into it next week. Hopefully when I return sunday.

I keep telling myself I can't be as obsessive with doing side stuff in X as I was with the original. I want to finish it soon, move onto other games. I should stick to the story missions, knock it out and move on with my life...

Then every time I sit down I spend hours and hours doing not story mission things. Sometimes I even forget which side mission I started on because I keep finding new side missions during that side mission and I often jump right into the new ones. Though I did finally get mission 7? done over the weekend.

Anyway. So with skells... do they have "special" moves like being outside of a skell does? It's kind of boring just slash, slash, slash, occasionally switch to guns. I imagine you can buy more moves or something?

@Zero

Yeah, you gotta equip it. And you buy that equipment from one of the arms merchants. Look around in that alley, you'll find it.

You can also buy better skells there than the lvl 20 one you start with, and give them to your party.

@Zero On the other hand, if you don't do any side stuff, you will probably not be strong enough to complete the last few chapters. So it'll all work out in the end.

I have no idea how a couple of those chapters would have been possible without a party full of Skells, or maybe I was missing something...

So, fun question, did anyone kill Bates?

I did

I wasn't paying close attention and figured sending him west would get him to the ocean quickly

@mrbiggsly Don't be so hard on yourself, after all, he did go for a swim.

Ugh, I haven't played this in like a whole month. WHYYYY.

("Because you no longer have Fridays off from work, thats why!" *sigh*)

I'm trying to bump my Cauldros survey percentage and I can't get any yellow quote bubbles to pop up... so annoying

God damnit why doesn't this game have auto-save?! I finally sat down to play it for the first time in a long time, spent a few hours playing, and... Wii U randomly shut down and I lost a ton of progress.

@Zero

You're blaming the game and not concerned about the "random shut down?" What caused that? Or did you fall asleep and it shut down on you, because I'm pretty sure there are popups all over the place that are like "your Wii U is currently set to power down automatically after a period of extended inactivity. Be sure to change it in the settings to avoid data loss."

(And save often, you crazy guy! Its a big RPG! --If/when you get TMSXFE#$%, I'd suggest saving after EVERY DLC run.)
06/26/16, 11:28
I'm blaming the game for not having something most every other similar modern game has nowadays, yes. It's very easy to save, but also very easy to forget to save since just randomly having to go into a menu and save is not a thing in most games nowadays. I'm not the only one concerned.

As for the random shutdown that is concerning too, but a different concern. I've gotten this weird thing with the Wii U a lot lately where the power light blinks red and I can't start it without unplugging and replugging it back in. First time it just randomly shut down on me though, but probably related, since it immediately went into the blinking red light thing and I had to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to turn on again. Apparently it is a thing built into the Wii U to shut it down when the vents get clogged and it starts getting hot instead of overheating? So it's probably ultimately a good thing. Though some YOUR SYSTEM IS OVERHEATING, SHUTTING DOWN SOON warning message would be nice instead of just doing it out of nowhere. It makes sense though since yesterday was HOT AS HELL and even with the air on it was still pretty hot in my apartment. Now to unclog those vents...

I actually don't like auto-save features because it puts more wear on a system, though that can be solved by having an option to turn it off. Since I'm used to playing old-school games and 3/DS RPGs, I'm used to manually saving after each significant event.
06/26/16, 23:51
@Mop it upI guess that is the thing though is it is easy to play Xenoblade X for a long time without any "significant event". I just am not in the mindset of thinking about saving because it's really not a thing you have to do in almost any game like this nowadays.
06/27/16, 00:07
@Zero By the way, what kind of games are "games like this"? I'm not sure I'm clear on that, but it's probably stuff I don't play. Skyrim? Witcher 3?
06/27/16, 00:12
Not just RPGs, pretty much any game without specific save points autosaves nowadays. It's just bizarre to have to go into a menu to save.
06/27/16, 00:36
To me having specific save points is basically unforgivable in a modern game.

Also, my skell is better than yours.

@Zero

Tokyo Mirage Sessions doesn't auto-save. Learn to love it. #RicFlairWOO

And as far as autosaving..automatically, you aren't the least bit concerned about the game saving over something you DIDN'T want to? Liiiiike, you sold something by accident? You got yourself cornered? You hear about game-breaking glitches far too often, and I'm sure none of them are attached to "oh, I was just able to go back to a previous save and circumvent the problem."
06/27/16, 10:26
@Mr_Mustache Most games with auto-save let you turn it off if it bothers you. But no, there is nothing I would want to take back in this game other than one thing, which is ALSO avoidable with smart design... the whole "oops I accidentally switched to easy mode for this battle and now it won't let me switch back" thing.

Anyway it's not a huge deal, once I sat down and did some quick inventory I realized that I had spent a lot of that lost time running around a bit aimlessly, and a lot of it pushing quests forward just to get to the "find X of these random item" part that makes me abandon quests, etc. so I mostly got caught back up in just a half hour or so anyway.

@Zero

..AFTER you cleaned the gunk out of your Wii U, of course.
06/28/16, 00:16
Yeah I cleaned the vents out, they were clogged bad so I guess that was it.
