Chicago - Apartment Warming III: A NEW CHALLENGER APPROACHES (aka I have a new apartment)

I upgraded my apartment to a much sweeter place like almost a year ago, and we still haven't had a game party here? Time to rectify that!

My brother's GF is going to be in town for a few weeks and she is a gamer too so I thought it might be neat to have a party while she is here? So I'm shooting for Saturday, June 4th. Does that work for people?

Day / time: Sunday, May 29th. 4 pm - ???
Location / my phone #: Don't want to post publicly PM me for it.
Confirmed almost definitely coming: We'll see. Lots of my family and a few NW people if no one else.

Non-alcoholic drinks and snacks will be provided as usual. Still live within walking distance of Portillo's though it is a slightly longer walk now. Could always take cars.

Here is what we may / will probably be playing:

Wii U
The usuals: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Mario Kart 8, Nintendo Land, Spin The Bottle: Bumpie's Party, etc.
New stuff: Runbow!, Extreme Exorcism

PC / Steam
The usuals: Duck Game, Towerfall Ascension, Samurai Gunn, Gang Beasts (maybe someday we will figure it out), etc.
New stuff: CRAWL, Astro Duel, Speedrunners, Hidden in Plain Sight

3DS
The usuals: Super Smash Bros. for 3DS, Mario Kart 7, etc. uh, do we ever really play much 3DS at these things?!

Should we try to play Zelda 4 Swords Adventures?! I have such a hankering for it lately.

What I need other people to bring:
2 360 controllers (I only have 2)
2 more Wii U classic controllers if people don't want to get stuck with Wiimotes for 8 player Smash
1 More Wiimote... I guess? If we play Wii games?
Your own 3DS + copies of any multiplayer games you want to try
Any games you want to try that I didn't list above (might as well ask me first if I already have it though...)

AARGHHH!!! The only thing that would keep me away is if I was out of the country. And on the 4th I'm out of the country. Boo to me.

What dates are you gone?
05/21/16, 07:08
May 31-June 15. I'm likely good most Saturdays not in that stretch.
05/22/16, 01:23
She's arriving Saturday the 28th though I doubt she wants a party the night she gets here. Would the 29th or 30th (Memorial Day, I have off) work? Cutting too close to the trip?

I have to check with my brother what their plans are too of course. And Anand.

29th is a possibility. At that point I'll be in final prep mode for the trip, but I imagine I might be able to get away for a few hours.
05/22/16, 18:08
Hmm, I'll see what their availability is.

Where is Anand is he CURRENTLY in Japan or did he get back yet?!
05/22/16, 20:41
@Zero

He should be back. I think he was there from the 5th to the 15th, or thereabouts.
05/22/16, 21:21
Hey, guys. What's up? I saw the Anand Signal in the sky.

Anyway, I'm back. And I just got over my jetlag.

As always, I am down for some gaming goodness. The 29th might be a problem, but I think that I'll probably be around. I can bring whatever, as well.

Except for the case of rare 3DS games that I fucking LOST IN JAPAN.

New apartment is like a mile from the old one.

When will you know if the 29th is free?
05/23/16, 00:49
@Anand

Well, that sucks about your games. I'm super excited to hear about your trip, though, as I get ready for mine quite soon!

It's like Beetlejuice. Disturbing.

Sucks about the games Anand. What did you lose?

@Zero
I'll probably know within a couple of days. Is there any kind of public transit into the city from your place?

@Koovaps
Yeah, it was super-fun, man! Quite an experience. Whenever I describe it to people, it ends up sounding boring, but I had a blast! We can trade Japan tips before you go.

@Shadowlink
Ehhh... I think I lost:

Star Fox 64 3D (which I was just starting up and enjoying quite a bit)
Kid Icarus Uprising (only played a few levels in, was waiting for the New 3DS to dive back in)
Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX (only played a few songs so far, pretty fun stuff)
Paper Mario: Sticker Star (played a few worlds, very charming)
Kirby Triple Deluxe (played the first world, seemed awesome)
Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes (was on the LAST fucking level)

I was super excited to play farther into all of them. Why, oh why, couldn't I have lost a case of dumb RPGs, instead?

I hadn't actually realized how low Nintendo's recent print runs were until I checked out the price of replacement. Sticker Star is the only one that I can grab cheaply. And Project Mirai and Triforce Heroes are the only two that are still in print. I'll probably just wait for a Buy 1 Get 1 used sale at Gamestop and grab them all. And then Nintendo will probably announce that they've all joined the Player's Choice lineup the next day.

Consciously, I realize that lamenting over my lost case of games is super lame. It's just money, in the end.

But I still hate losing stuff! And I didn't even freaking play them! I just studied Japanese and slept for the whole plane trip!

(P.S. If it was really Beetlejuice-esque, Zero would have had to say my name three times. He only got to two!)

Public transit isn't too hard, I can post more specific directions later in private but it's basically Orange line and a single bus to get a few blocks from my place. Plus there will be people with cars around so it might even be possible to pick you up from the Orange line / drive you back. Or whatever.

But yeah let me know as soon as possible. I talked to my bro and they're free on the 29th as well so that is probably the best day to get everyone.
05/23/16, 01:28
Not home. I might have to go to Chicago. But, yeah, a bus and the Orange line sounds fine.

I think that I can probably swing it. Unless I post to the opposite effect, assume that I can make it.

(And tell me what you want me to bring.)
05/23/16, 01:36
@Anand

Man, when you said 'rare' I was thinking some obscure unheard of gem. ...This was not what I was expecting .

Still sucks horribly (at least from a financial perspective), but have you considered digital versions as replacements? I think that will let you keep your save data too? Maybe?
05/23/16, 01:43
@Shadowlink
Mmm, I don't think save data carries over from retail to digital. But that would only really be a problem for Triforce Heroes.

I wouldn't mind having digital versions, but my 32 GB memory card is pretty much packed to the brim right now. I guess you can use larger cards, if you reformat them? But it seems like a hassle/additional expense.

Star Fox 64 3D and Kid Icarus Uprising (and even Kirby Triple Deluxe) are actually kind of rare now! I mean, it would cost me much more than I originally paid for them just to get used cart-only copies. Star Fox alone goes for $100 or more new, even though it's been Player's Choiced in Europe and Japan.

Again, it's only money. I feel dumb for still even thinking about it. It's not like the games have any kind of sentimental value to me.

I'd go for this if it weren't for my living in California and all Have fun!

We do need more NW regulars than just Anand, Brandon and I. COME ON PEOPLE.

This.

Unfortunately I have a huge amount of vacation time being used by a trip for the GF's big event. So I can't swing a Chicago trip right now.
