Splatoon is Nintendo's unique twist on the shooter genre. Shoot ink on both your friends and environments to win the match! Players can turn into squids and 'swim' through their team's ink color. Players can also use their team's ink color to slow down enemy movement. It's ink or be inked in this chaotic marriage of third person shooters, de Blob, and good ole fashioned paintball.

@Octorockin

I, too, would love to see some stats. Sq ft of map inked, most points, avg. points, Longest time alive, shortest time alive, kills by weapon, death by weapon, squid vs. kid time % (how long are you a squid and a kid, etc.).

Kill/death ratio is the least interesting, because it doesn't really matter in this game as much. Sure, splatting someone paints the immediate explosion area in your team's color, but that's not a huge area.

@TheOldManFromZelda Ha ha, this ain't Call of Duty, yo!

@chrisbg99 Yeah, it's definitely an accomplishment. I'm just not sure if it's possible for most weapons to reach 2,000 points. Heck, some of them struggle to reach 1,000 points, such as blasters. This is before the 300p you get for winning, of course.

@Mop it up

It says how tough in can be when I've only done it once in who knows how many matches I've played (this is where stats would be great). Gotten plenty of 1900+ scores but only 1 2000. It just takes that perfect blend of enemy competency where you have plenty of territory to take and retake and just plain not getting much in the way of confrontation. Also helps that I stick to my personal gameplan almost religiously with very little deviation. Whatever I do seems to work as I am pretty sure I have a very good win record and am usually the top person on my team win or lose.

@chrisbg99 Are you saying that you use only the Aerospray all the time? If so, I can't imagine using only one weapon myself, I'd get bored quickly doing that. This game has such a nice variety of weapons, most of which are fun to use, that I like to switch it up all the time.

@Mop it up

I like to dabble around. Rollers and chargers and all that. But I often use the Nzap89

@Mop it up

I'm pretty persistent on my use of the Aerospray. Nothing else feels as good.

I also like to switch it up. The two map rotation is supposed to make you think about your loadout for each and every map combo, since some guns have clear advantages and disadvantages depending on the map.

But I suppose if you just play turf war, Aerospray will get it done more often than not.

So next weekend is the next Splatfest… I'm psyched…

And I'll be representing my first ever Pokemon experience, Pokemon BLUE!

Who are you playing for?

@DrFinkelstein
Yesterday I booted up Splatoon for the first time in quite a while because I want to be sure my Pokemon Blue shirt is fully upgraded for the event!
Blue was also my very first Pokemon experience.

I even lucked into a few fun matches with Mop it Up.

Pokemon Blue feels like it's dominating this time. I also came across a team Blue when I am blue. So maybe they'll win popularity? I dunno..

I saw a red team fight a red team too. Probably just a hiccup.

Loving this Splatfest. Amanda and I have been streaming it.
02/21/16, 03:36
Yeah it was only that one match for me too. I ended up winning 75% of my matches. Played 44 matches total to make it to Pokemon Blue Queen. And I was the top player on my team for well over half my matches. Lots of fun today.
02/21/16, 03:43
Ugh, what a horrible night. I dunno if Red is just full of kids or what, but my teams consistently sucked!
02/21/16, 04:32
That was a great Splatfest. I enjoyed the theme, and now I have the urge to play Pokemon Red! Congrats on your win, Team Pokemon Blue.

I didn't make it to Pokemon Red King, but I was less than 10 points away from earning that title. So close!

@TriforceBun

I had some pretty solid teams. I thought our win percentage was going to be a little higher.

Yeah, I dunno what happened with this Splatfest, but it seemed like Blue definitely had the higher-leveled/more skilled players. Most of the Red teamies I got paired with were just garbage, I was easily the best player on my teams a lot, and often placed first or second in the room; too bad I don't get consolidation points for being first. It got to the point where I actually tried playing with one hand to see what would happen, and I still placed second on my team... I wasn't even able to swim!

I'm probably just being harsh, though, as it's probably just kids and other inexperienced players who chose Red. It doesn't mean they suck or won't be able to get better, but it is interesting how they all ended up on the Red team. Looking around the Internet, it seems most people had the same experience with Red as I did.

That's the thing about Splatoon though, it really does rely on teamwork and one person can't carry a team (unless both sides have inexperienced players). I both love and hate that about the game: when it lines up with balanced teams, it's great fun, but when it doesn't, it can sometimes be frustrating.

I just chose Red since my friends did, even though I actually own Blue. -_- Perhaps next time I'll just go my own way.

@ploot Yeah, I think it's the first time we met in the game, too! We made a good team.

Dammit. Also fired this up for the first time in ages last week and registered for the Splatfest...then promptly forgot about it in the chaos of my weekend plans.

I like to think the explanation for the Red vs Blue disparity described above was that the logic of those choosing Red version back in the day still holds- It had the cool fire dragon on the cover. (Also the logic that governed starter choice.)

Those of us who gave it a little thought though, we know that Blastoise is superior. Thus Red version appeals to the superficial kiddies wowed by shiny fire lights, whilst Blue appeals to the wiser tactically minded types .

Back to the general topic of Splatoon though, like I said, I haven't played for a long time. Is it just me, or has the game slowed down considerably since launch? I feel like I don't move nearly as fast as I used to. Was there any patch changes that I missed?
02/21/16, 23:02
Oh yeah, water does beat fire, huh? Perhaps the Blue team had powered-up weapons...
02/21/16, 23:04
I'm no Charizard fan, but Red is the only version with Scyther, so it wins out in my heart.

I think the theory that there were a lot of kids in Red is sound.
02/22/16, 00:33
I can't remember which version I played first when I was a kid. I owned Yellow, but my brother owned Red or Blue.

I prefer Red over Blue mainly because it has Growlithe.
02/22/16, 00:51
I like Charizard best, and fire types in general. The only reason I have Blue is because it was cheaper.

Oh yeah, there were also a lot of DCs too. I had a few, but mostly, it was other people. It happened the most on the Skatepark, but also a good number on the Games level. They were usually the Red team also, or if a Blue person did then one or more Reds DC'd also. I wonder what the deal was with that...
