Hype is over, someone make a Game thread!

Done! I'll spiffy thus one up a but when I get back from out of state. Here for some sudden family business.

However, my copy of Xenoblade Chronicles X is arriving tomorrow and I am stoked! The reviews have been generally positive. I guess the game lacks slightly in areas but they can be overlooked for the sheer density and fun this game has. Looking forward to diving into it next week. Hopefully when I return sunday.

So... Is level 60 max? Because... I can't seem to get XP anymore for the character who is level 60.

Which... confuses me how I can possibly ever beat those level 70-something monsters....
02/06/16, 06:01
@J.K. Riki Yes, 60 is max. Dunno why.

I imagine that beating enemies higher than lvl 60 is similar to beating the lvl 100+ enemies in the original Xenoblade: rather specific party and equipment setups tailored specifically to fight each one. Some luck might help too...
02/06/16, 06:11
@Mop it up Yeah but couldn't you get to level 99 in that game? 60 seems like a weird cap, I'm nearly halfway there yet I still feel like I've barely cracked into the game!

Ok, where the heck is Boze?

Skells, people, come on. (Shoulda had a V8)

What do you mean? Do skells affect how you level up? I don't have one yet.

No, they're just significantly stronger and more armored.

@Mr_Mustache

Skells suck. Yes, they have more power, but they die quickly and then cost unreasonable amounts once insurance is gone. Besides, even at level 60 with the best skell I seem to be able to buy, I can barely dent some of these giant flying monsters. The best attack I have (which kills anything 40 and lower in a SINGLE HIT) only does like 10% damage. And it takes a year and a half to recharge.
02/06/16, 19:12
@Zero Right, but I'm simply saying that fighting higher-level enemies in this game likely follows a similar concept as it did in the original game. Plus, you also have more factors to consider, such as Skells, and... certain other things...

@J.K. Riki Skells certainly have a risk/reward thing going on, but with how obscenely powerful they are, it makes some sense. Gotta make sure you hit that B button prompt so that you don't have to pay! You could also just bail out if you think it's about to be destroyed, and just let your character get smacked around, since nothing happens if they get taken out.

If all else fails, get some salvage tickets.

@Mr_Mustache Woo, glad we got in some missions with multiple people! We even had the full 4 at one point, it was nice. Some of those B button prompts sure do fly by, they can be tough when they do that! I gotta remember to keep my finger hovering over the B button for when those fast ones happen.

@Cubed777

I need SPECIFICS though. Which Hex, in relation to something else? Maybe some people hanging out nearby? I talked to EVERYONE BUT last night. Thanks in advance. (And if someone would like to help, thank you, too!)

@J.K. Riki

Yes, I've heard you bitch about the Skells before, and I'm going to wager both a) you're not used to them and b) you probably didn't build your own from the ground up. I was using the free one that they got me, and I was actually thinking "I see what JKR was talking about.." and I do get lost when in 1st person sometimes, too...but then I bought a brand new frame, built it from the ground up, outfitted it with weapons that I wanted to, and I'm an F'n BEAST out there now. And when I'm about to die (pffft, not with Jetfire), you simply EXIT, and then you're on foot (as you would've been anyway), your HP should be full, and your enemy is half or more dead. Very simple, very easy.

And I've read farther down, and I see that you've experimented a little bit. Dude, 10% is pretty big.. And yes, I agree, some of those flying things are monsters, but there is something stronger at play. Clearly they've got some Defensive buffs or something..so you should de-buff them. I can't do CRAP against Cetos personally, and I struggled with the Purgivants, too. I dunno, dude, nothing to get P'd about. Just outfit it with some better stuff. (Though I do think your "year and a half" comment is probably hyperbole.)

@Mop it up

Yeah we did! I'll have my Skell ready for action the very next time we play, so that'll be boss. I was on foot a lot yesterday, and using my Baby Skell which had nothing on it. I don't even know if I knew for sure that you could buy individual things...I know, stupid, I just haven't dealt with them at all. That said, I'm all geared up now.

Yeah, Elysia which is.....Gojira? hopped in for a quest. I wish he did another! Every time I go to itch my face or get a drink there is a quick-SoulVoice thing that I'm not ready for.

Oh, man...last night....I was keeping an eye out for those quests popping up, you know, when someone else initiates? And I'd joined some before, so this "girl" (we'll go by avatar) Vanessa initiated a mission last night, and HOLY CRAP, they had the entire Bunny Girl thing built and complete. So incredibly jealous, and I couldn't look away either. Thank you, game designers. ANYWAY, she had like 30,000HP or something like that, I'm not entirely sure how, but she was CRUSHING the Final Menace thing, and every time I died, she was right there to scoop me right back up. I fear that they moved closer on the Affinity Chart with how many missions we ran (I think I did like 5-6 in a row before you guys came along) and how much of my bacon she saved, and I was volleying back those things every time her (or someone else) called for it. I couldn't do any real damage, but I COULD do that.

SPEAKING OF DOING REAL DAMAGE, and I suggest this to anyone who hasn't yet; you can throw a slot on your weapons for about 20,000 miranium (at least in my case), and then do some Augments. I made two last night, a 25% Bonus on Front Attacks for my Sword (so when I'm Taunting them and they're facing me, I'm doing PHAT DAMAGE -- and seriously thinking, no seriously!!, that when I'm Taunting, YOU do a lot of your back attacks when we play together. So maybe you could do an Augment (if you hadn't already) for a 25% Back Bonus. I put that one on my Gun so I can hit my big move after the Topple for a good amount of damage, too. Pretty awesome. (And if you didn't know -- I didn't -- they ARE removable from your weapons, they don't attach FOR GOOD.)

I'm working on developing a better one for HP back each time I use an Arte (ie: 150 hp per Arte), though its expensive in materials. One that is a little more manageable is the Crush: Gain one. Bust an appendage and you're awarded 1000 TP? Holy crap, I'll be full CONSTANTLY. (Its also through these screens that I really found out what certain skill do, ie: HP Rebound.)

BONUS QUESTION: Does anyone know what Virus does? I do, but didn't, and wouldn't have guessed it.
02/07/16, 02:42
Man, you all are talking about skells, and here I just finished the 3rd mission. This has been said a million times already, but damn this game world is huge! I'm still having a hard time finding my way around NLA, and I haven't spent more than 2 minutes in the residential district. Last night and so far today is the most time I've played any video game in a long time.
02/07/16, 03:12
@Mr_Mustache

I don't build/equip anything. I dislike that aspect of RPGs. My wife handles all item management, equipment, and mission acquisitions. I'll let her know she's doing a bad job, apparently.

I will say, the game also must do a bad job, because I've picked "Equip best gear" before and it still hasn't done bubkiss.
02/07/16, 04:36
@cooliocuneo

I just got a Skell and I'm now 130 hours in (after my 14 hour session last night). You'll be there well before my time, I'm certain. As for you not exploring the Residential District, I'm yet to go to the other areas besides Noctilum and Oblivia for fun. I've been to the other places for a few off-the-board missions, A FEW, but they're still largely unexplored and waiting for me. I've got FrontierNav crap secure in a lot of areas, but nothing really official has happened over there. Pretty neat!

@J.K. Riki

Well, have your wife build a solid Skell then. You're using Hot Garbage, its no wonder nothing is working.
Or did SHE build one? If she built one, I don't know what to tell you. Maybe its time to oversee something.
And how do you dislike that aspect of RPGs? Its..the best aspect of RPGs... "Make it your own," nothing??
I can't tell you how nice it is when I reach a Lv on the 0 or 5 with someone and they get *NEW GEAR*. RAD.

--And aren't you Lv60?? I thought you said so.. How are you having trouble??
02/07/16, 06:13
@Mr_Mustache

Yeah, I'm Elysia. That was fun. Too bad I seem to be sleeping when you guys seem to be playing most nights.
02/07/16, 08:22
@gojira

We waited around for a few minutes for you after that quest, seeing if you'd hop in the next one. You didn't! Usually when we do those, we clear out all of the Squad missions back to back to back. You'll still be standing right next to that console in the Barracks, so all you gotta do it click on it and join up and away you go!

My next day on will probably be Friday Night. I think..
02/10/16, 01:32
@Mr_Mustache Oh God, I just got a special skell weapon called the HOMURA and it's just an amazing little toy for me to... Let me put it this way:

See that G-Buster there? Well the HOMURA is getting so much power from the Amdusias's thermal boosts that it actually does more then twice as much damage, Also the Flame-Cracker-Grenade-Things I have can inflict blaze so I can use that to boost my damage even more.

Also I have an augment that will negate any damage caused by someone reflecting my thermal attacks.

I also have a pair of back mounted missile launchers i'm fond of using that can do a fair amount of damage and have two slots devoted to thermal boosts.

My skell build basically involved having the g-buster and using thermal boosts to allow my skell's other weapons (which, outside of the heathen have 16 second charge times) powerful enough to sustain a steady stream of damage. Now that my skell's main weapon feeds off those boosts my skell has just become a monster.

@Mr_Mustache

Oh, I was waiting for the prompt to pop up on screen to join something. It was only the second time I've done online stuff.
02/10/16, 02:32
@gojira

I might've beat you to it. It only sits there for a second, and then the mission is still open (until we go out, or it is abandoned). If you took your time getting your rewards, you might've missed it completely. If you have to join WITHOUT hitting - for the prompt, just go to Join Mission or Active Missions or Support Missions. I'm not sure which one it is, again, because I'm usually the one initiating, and when I'm not I get that - in pretty darn quick. Mop it up initiated the last few we were in.

@pokepal148

Unfortunately, you're talking well over my head with all this. I REALLY wish I could keep up, but I've barely done much with Skells. I've literally only built my new one, and went out and squashed a few Lv14 Forfex. Gonna get into the meat & potatoes next time, and, you know, maybe start Chapter 7!..
02/10/16, 02:44
I beat chapter 5 this weekend, and I've finally sat down my A team (Elma Lin and Hope) and am going through some sidequests and exploring Noctillum with some other characters. I'm liking my Duelist/Blast Fencer build now, but I'm not willing to give up my longsword for the lightsaber yet.

Overdrive is pretty cool, but it seems like it's more useful against one big enemy than a bunch of small fries.
02/10/16, 17:27
We beat the game last night.

Ending mostly sucked, but I suppose it's to be expected. The game overall has some serious ethical questions, and I'm glad Doug voiced dissidence at the end, but overall it felt a little too "Hey look at us humans playing God! Weeeeee! We can do no wrong!" The part that REALLY disturbed me was the "We should bring Lao back from the dead so we can punish him for his crimes. He hasn't suffered enough." That is some screwed up BS right there. That is seriously messed up in the head.

I did like the cliffhanger-esque extra ending after the credits, though. That was all sorts of mysterious. I'm glad their playing God was thwarted by nature. Suck on that, self-important humans.

Anyway, story aside, I really enjoyed the game. I still give props to the first Xenoblade in terms of characters and story, even if that DID end with "ha ha, you were a computer program the whole time, okay bye." But this one's SCOPE, man, it was amazing. I loved the world, and I loved exploring. All in all, two big thumbs up! :)

Okay, now back to Yoshi's Woolly World where they only ethical misgiving is murdering thousands of yarn-creatures and pooping them out.
