@ScrawntonI think I've played every FFCC rather extensively. I used to play one of them online with folks now and then back in its day. I think that if you really enjoyed those games you would really enjoy FFE. Now, objectively, FFE is not nearly as high quality as Fire Emblem Fates. But, depending on your tastes, I can say personally that I am LOVING FFE and would definitely choose it over Fates. You've got some good options in this community to play with online, so, you should be able to find a crew when you want it. Like VofEscaflwne implied, if you can derive enough entertainment from the sense of online co-operation with others, and the general Final Fantasy flavor, it's a slam dunk. If you're looking for impressive visuals and dynamic action, not so much. A lot of people say that there is no story in this game. That's, mostly true, but to me I often consider story in terms of how cohesively a world hangs together from a fictional standpoint. In other words, how much is it "a game" in which the narrative elements are irrelevant, compared to a game that, while playing, automatically and fluidly writes your own story in your head. To me, this game is square(enix)ly the latter. As someone who cares about story more than any other aspect of a game, I feel that if you go out of your way to read the Quest discriptions and chat with NPCs, and just think about how you and your comrades are questing, there actually is way, way more sense of narrative than, say, Monster Hunter or Phantasy Star 0. Speaking of which, I would compare this game much more to Phantasy Star 0 or the DS Chrystal Chronicles than any Monster Hunter game. A lot of people draw the MH comparison because the big boss fights take a few pages from the MH book. But, the game mechanics during even those battles are so much more like PS0 and so little like MH (way less frustrating!!). |

My connection stability with this game has been as follows.... Day 1 - Randoms: flawless Day 2 - Randoms and Rocket: flawless Day 3 - Randoms: flawless Day 4 - Randoms: flawless Day 5/6 - GDG: terrible. Day 6 - Randoms: hit'n'miss Day 7 - Randoms and Rocket: flawless, then terrible, then flawless Day 8 - Randoms and TOMFZelda: flawless Hard to isolate the key variables. So far I've narrowed it down to... -Trying to play during peak internet hours (we're poor so we're on a free shared connection in this complex) -Trying to play in the room that is slightly more shielded from the wifi. -Dumb luck. But, bottom line, I've had some awesome times questing with Tom F. Zelda and Rocket and randoms! I hope to successfully team up with GDG in the near future! I also hope to continue peer-pressuring Mop it up into getting the game soon But, I'll still play whenever you get it, pal! |
