6.53/10 from 6 user ratings

Welcome to the official discussion thread for Pokemon Picross on the 3DS!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

It's coming December 3rd! Hopefully it's great!

Here's a full 30 minutes of footage that just went live from GameXplain. It should give a good look at the game's mechanics.

You don't get picrites for any individual stages but maybe after beating a certain amount you do get stuff. I paid the money and unlocked the game permanently (well as long as it's on my 3DS) and I played a little of Alt World. Definitely not earning picrites yet. Love those harder puzzles though. I used to not be so great at them but I learned the tricks and now almost prefer them.

I reset the game before I had a chance to get into Alt-World. Only was in the middle of training, which was required before Alt-World unlocked, I guess.

@Shadowlink

One in addition to the one you're forced to upgrade.

Sadly my experiment has failed. I redownloaded Pokemon Picross, then bought the 99 cent picrite option, then deleted it all and redownloaded it AGAIN, and it wants to charge me the 99 cents again to get those extra picrites.

Which is weird since it specifically says on the Redownload screen that in game purchases can be redownloaded for free. Guess picrites do not count as "in game purchases" but some other, weird "purchase you make while you just happen to be in the game."

Two other ideas came to mind: 1) Because it is a 99 cent 1-time-only special, maybe that doesn't count? But it would if I didn't buy the 1-time-only special? Which is weird, but possible. 2) I think I will call Nintendo back again to discuss this, since the redownload screen does indeed say you get your in game purchases back at no costs. Maybe see what they have to say this time. At the very least, I would bet they give me my 1.05 back in credit and then take that "no additional cost" bit of text out of their eShop screen. I'll report back if anything develops, but as of right now the news is

If you buy picrites and then delete the game save, you don't get those picrites back. 12/09/2015 confirmed by trying

@J.K. Riki

They might be talking about things like the upgrades, or Mega Pencil or Alt-World. If you've already bought them, then you don't have to 'pay' for them again?

Unlocked Area 7. Current Picrite level: Abysmal.

Time limits- 1.00

1.00

I defy JKR to not use Pokecheats

That legenday mon will be mine though.

If I ever get there, I will take your challenge!

Sometimes when playing Picross e I really want to quit and start over if it adds two minutes because of a mistake. I'm like TWO MINUTES?! I MIGHT AS WELL BE DEAD!

And earlier I solved a puzzle that was a bed, and I was totally sitting on the bed when I solved it! And I yelled "Ho! It's a bed and I'm SITTING ON A BED! HA HA!"

I... I seriously think I might have a problem...

So I spend like 2 days waiting for that mythical Pokemon I missed to show up again now I've unlocked Area 7. Nothing. Wake up this morning, fire up the 3DS for daily training and get the notification....

This one is in Area 8. Seriously, fuck you game.

For some reason I had no idea this came out on December 3rd. Whoops. I grabbed it while I was on the eShop nabbing Steamworld Heist.

I only intended on playing it for a few minutes, but I ended up spending the better part of my evening solving puzzles.

Curse you Picross and your addictiveness!

There's literally only one more Picrite I can pick up from missions, bringing me up to a whopping total of about 39.

See you in a week or so

This game is pretty fun. Lots of paywalls, but I don't mind paying a few quid for a spot of Picross, wot wot. Having never dipped into the Picross-e titles, Jupiter has made the interface a bit smoother and cleaner. The power-ups are a neat touch, too. Blue Force almost feels like cheating!

@Anand

(All the Pokemon abilities are cheating! )

I got bored waiting for that stupid legendary to show up so I went and redid one of the big puzzles legit with no abilities. (Zygarde 10%)

Did it in 28 mins or so, just under the 30 minute target. Had I had 3 Pokemon slots unlocked, I would have cleared all the missions in a single stroke with no abilities used.

I like to think JKR is proud of me right now.
12/13/15, 05:17
I dislike the "clear all missions at once" mission. It's kind of dumb, because several of the missions involve forcing the player to use something that makes things EASIER (some Pokemon ability), so it's bizarre to require that for a perfect run. It also makes me not want to go for ANY missions if I'm missing out on one of them (i.e. "clear puzzle with Pokemon you don't have").

They should've replaced those missions with "Clear puzzle without any Pokemon abilities." That would've made way more sense.

@TriforceBun

That would have been a GREAT alternative. It gives incentive to play 'properly', whilst still keeping those specific missions. And it keeps JKR happy.
12/13/15, 05:37
Yeah, whenever a stage had a mission that it was impossible for me to complete, I just wouldn't play that stage at first. But then when I hit the progression wall I figured I might as well go ahead and play those stages to scrounge up what few Picrites I could.
12/13/15, 08:28
@Shadowlink

I am. Good job. :)

See, knew you could do it!

Am I the only one who paid for this outright? I'm enjoying the pickup and play whenever I feel like it. It's much less stressful as I can go play the surprise pokemon whenever they show and no slowly gaining picrites a la Pokémon Shuffle. I think Shuffle wore me out on that premise. So much Meowth...
12/13/15, 22:13
@DrFinkelstein

This is a little different. Now I've hit 'the wall', it's turned into a once-a-day thing. Turn it on in the morning, do my daily training, see if there's a mythical Pokemon appearing that I can catch (Spoiler alert :there isn't.) turn it off until tomorrow.

Then every 10 days or so (instead of once a month), I get a new set of stages to work through. So Shuffle - grind + more frequent stages + fun puzzles = Picross

I'm cool with that.

@DrFinkelstein

I was all set to pay for it outright until I learned you can never restart the game after that without having to re-buy it, and I constantly restart Picross games, so that was a deal breaker for me.
12/14/15, 05:54
@J.K. Riki

I don't restart them (though I did with Picross DS) and I figure I can always just replay the levels anyway without restarting. I'm not too concerned about transferring this over to some new 3DS so I figured, hell, lets just do this.
