So who else got this for Christmas??
Boy, this is really a game of highs and lows to me. On the one hand, the actual adventuring is really a lot of fun--the stage design is tight, the way it forces the players to constantly work together is smart, the music is solid and the combat, puzzles and bosses are all nicely done. Even the macro stuff (gathering materials and costumes, rupee usage, etc) keeps things addictive and rewarding.
The downside is that it ONLY WORKS HALF THE TIME! There are a lot of "conditionals" in this game--you have to hope you get a good group, people who can play at least decently and aren't mischievous or just plain time-wasters or who freak-out if they don't get the item they want etc. You have to hope a level (or Challenge) you haven't attempted is chosen. And--most pressingly--you have to pray you don't get disconnected! I've played through several stages in a row and made no forward progress due to Questus Interruptus, and it's frustrating as heck.
Long story short, terrific fun when it works (which is roughly half the time in my experience). We should adventure together soon, NW! |

Some decidedly un-heroic behavior that I've seen: -One player (who's clearly done the level before) will beeline to the required area, then hammer on the OVER HERE! button like no tomorrow. I can get not wanting to wait too long for pokey players, but these guys have zero patience and made everyone feel stressed out. -The guy with the bad connection. He shows up, and everything chugs like crazy. No way are we reaching the end of the stage with this fellow! -Worst of all, the time-waster. This clown thinks he's funny by running into enemies, grabbing people indefinitely, and/or sabotaging others to make the experience miserable. No one else is laughin', pal! -Similarly bad, the vengeful crank. If you take the wrong item or (most petty of all) don't let him be on the part of the Triforce warp he wants, he'll suddenly turn against your team, spamming NOOO! and promptly hurling your teammates off the nearest cliff. Don't be these guys and we'll have a good time! @GameDadGrantYeah, I'd like to try some with my buddy and wife at some point, but it takes some effort to get them together. Need those Friendly Tokens too for a couple costumes. |
