I'm sorry I couldn't get on last night. Things just aren't working out very well with two kids right now. So much stress and resentment. Ugh.

After failing over and over again with randoms on The Dunes a couple of nights ago (you guyssss, the solution to half of the puzzles is to totem up!), I decided to use my frustration/knowledge to beat the World myself during my commute yesterday. The puzzles were actually much easier, since I could just calmly execute. But trying to accomplish some of the physical challenges with doppels (particularly the balancing stuff) was a real bitch. And the boss was a bitch and a half. But I beat it!

Fun world, too. I think this game was severely underrated. It feels so fresh.

Anyone interested in playing tonight? I'm mostly focusing on the challenges now, but I'm up for whatever. Any time between 8:00pm and 11:00pm EST would work for me.

@canonj

Sure, I could probably play a few. Around 8pm ET should be good!

@VofEscaflowne

8:00pm sounds good.

Anyone else want to join us?
11/23/15, 17:07
@canonj

I have a friend who I beat the game with that could join us if that's alright. Doesn't seem like anyone else is in right now.

@VofEscaflowne

Yup that's fine with me. The more the merrier!
11/24/15, 01:11
@canonj@canonj Looks like you have 3 lined up yet again, but if someone doesn't show or drops early, I could probably sub in.

Anyone interested in playing tonight?
12/07/15, 17:29
@canonj I probably could, did you have a time in mind?
12/07/15, 23:31
@Mop it up

I was thinking around 8:00pm EST if that works for you. I could start earlier or later.
12/08/15, 00:01
@canonj Sounds good to me, I take it you'll be in NegWorld chat?
12/08/15, 01:48
@Mop it up

Yup, I'll be in chat.

By the way, my friend code is 0430-8571-0449.

Anyone else want to join?

So who else got this for Christmas??

Boy, this is really a game of highs and lows to me. On the one hand, the actual adventuring is really a lot of fun--the stage design is tight, the way it forces the players to constantly work together is smart, the music is solid and the combat, puzzles and bosses are all nicely done. Even the macro stuff (gathering materials and costumes, rupee usage, etc) keeps things addictive and rewarding.

The downside is that it ONLY WORKS HALF THE TIME! There are a lot of "conditionals" in this game--you have to hope you get a good group, people who can play at least decently and aren't mischievous or just plain time-wasters or who freak-out if they don't get the item they want etc. You have to hope a level (or Challenge) you haven't attempted is chosen. And--most pressingly--you have to pray you don't get disconnected! I've played through several stages in a row and made no forward progress due to Questus Interruptus, and it's frustrating as heck.

Long story short, terrific fun when it works (which is roughly half the time in my experience). We should adventure together soon, NW!

@TriforceBun

Have you tried playing locally? I found that's actually the best way to play. Far easier to communicate with your teammates, that's for sure!

Also, you get to collect those oh-so-precious "Friendly Tokens" much faster!

Local Play FTW.

@TriforceBun I have a similar feeling for the game, but with a different brand of "only works half the time."

So I've only been playing in Download Play with my two buddies. For some reason, after a few sessions the game had consistent connection issues. Either the connection would drop while transferring data, or the game would suffer extreme slowdown/lag while playing (usually preceding a connection drop a minute or two later), and these would happen more often than an actual working connection. We did have better luck after we switched which 3DS would "host" the game, but then that messed with our previous save data: it's tougher to actually play the stages we want because, without the cartridge's save data, my 3DS can only vote to play in the first World. So now there's a 1/3 chance that we won't get to play what we actually want to and have to quit to the lobby and try again.

I had a great team the last time I played this game. The lag was unbearable, and to make matters worse, the stage we were on had icy floors! We all toughed it out and finished the level after using all of our fairies, though. They were very patient and played well despite the terrible stuttering and input lag.

@GameDadGrant

I'd love to play this game locally.

@nate38

...Or maybe not.

Seriously though, like Bun said, I love this game when it works. Lag and inpatient players bum me out, but it's so fun to play a Zelda game cooperatively. I'd be up to play with a NW group sometime soon.

Some decidedly un-heroic behavior that I've seen:

-One player (who's clearly done the level before) will beeline to the required area, then hammer on the OVER HERE! button like no tomorrow. I can get not wanting to wait too long for pokey players, but these guys have zero patience and made everyone feel stressed out.

-The guy with the bad connection. He shows up, and everything chugs like crazy. No way are we reaching the end of the stage with this fellow!

-Worst of all, the time-waster. This clown thinks he's funny by running into enemies, grabbing people indefinitely, and/or sabotaging others to make the experience miserable. No one else is laughin', pal!

-Similarly bad, the vengeful crank. If you take the wrong item or (most petty of all) don't let him be on the part of the Triforce warp he wants, he'll suddenly turn against your team, spamming NOOO! and promptly hurling your teammates off the nearest cliff.

Don't be these guys and we'll have a good time!

@GameDadGrant

Yeah, I'd like to try some with my buddy and wife at some point, but it takes some effort to get them together. Need those Friendly Tokens too for a couple costumes.
12/30/15, 23:03
As with any game (especially co-op games), playing with randoms is a crapshoot. Don't blame the game though, every online co-op game has the same issues. That's why I always want to play with friends (or Internet "friends"), so if you're looking for the same, you can count on me!

@TriforceBun After a previous update, the Friendly Tokens can appear for purchase at the shop, so you can still get`them that way.

@nate38 Could you not choose "I can't decide!" and it'll turn your choice into someone else's choice? Would it not let you do that for stuff you haven't unlocked?

@GameDadGrant Can't you only get one token per person/system no matter how many times you play, or did they change that?
