Splatoon is Nintendo's unique twist on the shooter genre. Shoot ink on both your friends and environments to win the match! Players can turn into squids and 'swim' through their team's ink color. Players can also use their team's ink color to slow down enemy movement. It's ink or be inked in this chaotic marriage of third person shooters, de Blob, and good ole fashioned paintball.

It is a great map! Really like the spinning platforms. Too bad I suck these days. Hadn't played for a long while when I booted the game up a couple of days ago, and I had totally forgotten how to play.

Good games, Chris! (You too, Travis!)

I always have a blast when we're in the same lobby.

Guys... I think this new Brachydios weapon is OP.

Man, I wasn't sure this game was going to hook me after the Global Testfires, but I played all day. Got to Level 10 in my first day playing online. It's hard to say how good I am. I dominated in the early afternoon, but the competition got much tougher later on in the night. I still held my own though, especially when using a familiar weapon. Still experimenting with those to figure out what I'm best with (and what's the most fun). Haven't bought any gear yet, I figure my money is best used on weapons for now.

I'm a little worried about playing in a private battle with you guys. Probably need to hone my skills first.

@Jargon

I think the big reason why I really really enjoyed Splatoon was that I was competent at it, unlike most online shooters. I think the third-person camera angle and little bits of platforming make it so that 3D Mario skills translate really well to playing Splatoon.

I sent the game back to Gamefly to get MGSV, but it's definitely up there with Mario Kart and Smash for me in that I'll want to buy a copy of my own to play forever.

The game really grabbed me during the Test Fire. I wasn't sure prior to launch but was curious of the idea. Once I played it though... so much fun! I quickly labelled it as my GOTY not too long after launch and that still stands today.

I love having those sessions where I can pretty much do what I please. Had one of those and would have won all my matches had one of my teams not had a disconnect and a sniper who wasn't very good. Still made it close though.

The Sloshing Machine is crazy! I had a match earlier where 5 or 6 people were using it and Blackbelly Skatepark turned into a madhouse. It was really intense and fun!

@VofEscaflowne

It's most likely my Game of the Year as well. There's just so much genre-busting originality and creativity packed into this game. It's quite amazing how much it has expanded since it released, too.

It is going to take Xenoblade Chronicles X to really blow me away to not have Splatoon be my game of the year.

Haha, nice. I wish more people got that joke. Or maybe everyone DOES get it? Hmm...

Tried the new Sloshing Machine weapon earlier. Not sure how I feel about it... it feels inferior to the regular buckets in every way. It throws a more precise blob of ink which I imagine has a bigger range... but the damage it does and how slow it is to fire a second shot really is annoying. It's probably as slow as the other buckets but at least they have a wider shot which is a bit more forgiving and also makes it easier to fire at targets that are hiding or are on higher ground. It's still fun to use though but its effectiveness is lost on me.

@VofEscaflowne

It's a cool weapon, but I agree. I think it should do more damage to make up for its slow firing rate. It even makes a critical hit sound similar to a charger if you hit your target accurately, but the damage feels like it doesn't reflect that.

I only tested it out at Booyah Base, but that's how I felt after using it on a few practice dummies.

Game of the year just got some game of the year worthy orchestral music arrangements.

This is good fun and it's cool seeing a remix of this game's music in a non-electronic style. There were a few flubbed notes, but whatever--they're clearly having fun. :p

I scored this game for $25 over the weekend, gotta love Black Friday! When I first saw this game I thought it was a good idea, but wondered how well it would actually work out. I'm glad the testfire existed because it showed me that the game is well done and a lot of fun. I actually find this game feels right at home as a Nintendo IP, as if it's already existed for a while now. With proper nurturing, I could even see this series becoming a staple alongside the likes of Nintendo's other "top" games like Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing, etc.

@Secret_Tunnel It's kind of sad to think that we'll only have this game until the servers get shut off and the main draw becomes until unplayable. If Nintendo's history is any indication, that could be as soon as 6 years (Mario kart wii was released in 2008, and Wii's online was shut down in 2014). Maybe even sooner since it seems Splatoon was released closer to the end of the Wii U's lifespan than Mario Kart was the Wii's

@Hero_Of_Hyrule

Maybe, but I heard that the Wii/DS servers were running on some pretty outdated technology, which is the main reason they were shut down. I think the Wii U and 3DS will be able to stay online a lot longer (although I'm not entirely sure about that).

Either way, I'd bet dollars to donuts that the NX will have a Splatoon of its own.
