Stella Glow, the latest SRPG from Imageepoch, is now available on Nintendo 3DS! Join Alto as he embarks on an epic adventure to save his world from the Witch of Destruction. I was able to snag this the other day, along with the new Mewtwo Amiibo! Just wanted to share. Anyone else joining in on the SRPG adventure?

It's getting GREAT reviews from everyone, it seems! People are really surprised by its quality. One of the year's best JRPGs!

Still, I'm on the fence, leaning towards not buying it. I have a real hard time getting into strategy RPGs, having quit on many Fire Emblem games (including Awakening), and recently the PSP version of Final Fantasy Tactics.

I got it for that limited edition but I don't know when I'll get to playing it. I figured since Amazon made mistakes/favors on my two recent orders, saving me about 80$, that I'd treat myself a bit I really enjoyed the demo, even if it was a bit more on the simple side. I'm looking forward to what it offers once you have a bigger party and the strategy aspects really kick in.

I was a bit worried that it felt almost too cliché with anime and... well maybe it still does in the demo but it still felt like a good package. Great music, fun battles and the characters should be fun, even if shoved into that cliché world. I just hope some of them don't get on my nerves with the "LOOK AT ME I'M AN ANIME GIRL TEEHEE!" type dialogue

This game is totally an anime. Excellent for those that enjoy the stuff, a complete turn-off for those that don't. The gameplay is solid, which is of course the main (only) important thing.

Also? The freebies they threw into the "Launch Edition" are pretty nice. I always enjoy getting music from games like this. I don't suppose anyone else got the package deal, too? Beside me and Fabien, that is?

@GameDadGrant

Oh I don't mind animes. It's just that some have really over the top characters that feel that way just to be over the top. The demo didn't seem to have anyone like that thankfully but the trailer I watched did have one that could fit that category

@Guillaume
I enjoy the basic gameplay of Strategy RPGs, but I don't think I've ever finished one. Or even played more than 3-4 hours in.

That's not actually going to stop me from continuing to buy them. I'm just saying...

@Anand

You gave up on all Fire Emblem titles, too? Oh man. Those have some of the best end-game stuff ever. Epic.

Got my copy in the mail today but I'm debating starting it now and try to finish it before Xenoblade X hits. I'd really have to rush it if I did... but if I don't, Xenoblade X takes priority And that game is probably gonna suck me in for a while.

Better jump on it! If Stella Glow has the same length/pacing as the Luminous Arc games did, then it's *possible* to complete it prior to December 4.

But you'll probably have to bust ass a bit to do it.

@GameDadGrant

Yeah I decided not to start it right now. I'd have to rush it way too much and Just Cause 3 hits next Tuesday too. I guess I'll keep it after I'm done with Just Cause 3!

@VofEscaflowne

So you're putting off Stella Glow...just 'cause?

LOL, I'm hilarious. Ah, we have fun.

I'm kinda picky when it comes to strategy RPGs, so I haven't decided whether to buy this game or not. I should at least check out the demo.

Also, the Mewtwo amiibo is awesome! Too bad it's not compatible with Stella Glow.

Figure it's about time I start this up!

@Octorockin

That's just what they want us to think...!

@VofEscaflowne

Cool! Let us in on your impressions as you go through. Hope you enjoy it!

Well put in some decent time in it so far. It's pretty good! Nothing too hard so far but the difficulty seems to be amping up a bit in the last battle I did. Overall it's pretty simple in its progression of characters. There's an affinity link that you can form with your team members when you're given free time. On a day with free time, you can perform 3 actions such as exploring which will grant you items, doing tasks for villagers for money, etc. Spending time with your team members takes up one of those actions and they'll be given new abilities when you do. It's interesting but I hope there's plenty to progress them all!

I always find it hard to judge the battle system in these games because I end up comparing it to Final Fantasy Tactics which, to me, is still at the top in terms of strategy RPGs. Stella Glow is good but you can tell that it's very simplified in its mechanics. Of course that can always be a good thing since it's easy to learn but it really lacks that feel of customizing your team and working out new strategies based on skills to take out enemies. That said, there's still some challenge for the player since most battles will always have secondary objectives which are not mandatory to clear the battle and will grant you useful items. They can be to prevent someone from taking damage or to land the first blow or having certain characters take out a number of enemies. It's fun little extras that will really make you work for its rewards.

Oh and I knew this before going in but you can really feel the anime influence in this. Thankfully the characters so far that act this way are so few but some are obnoxiously childish in nature that I just want to punch them in the face. Yes, I want to punch children in the face. That's how annoying they are I don't expect to find deep character development in this but there's still some funny skits here and there.

Anyway, looking forward to spending more time in this and see how things go!

I guess pretty much no one played this? I think I'm nearing the end of the game. Very enjoyable and the characters really grew on me after a while. Curious about what sort of new game + options this'll have!
02/01/16, 00:25
Okay, this is flipping everything upside down now Game keeps getting better and better.
02/02/16, 02:54
I'm not there yet, but I've had some late-game spoilers....uh, spoiled for me. Yeah, apparently things get crazy later on. Ugh, I need more free time to play games! [/firstworldproblems]

@GameDadGrant

Yeah... I expected something to happen. I was just taken by surprise anyway Great stuff!

Just finished the game today. This was a pretty damn excellent game I must say. Very entertaining from beginning to end and just enough challenge to keep things interesting without ever really overwhelming you if you go in prepared. Highly recommended to anyone on the fence
