Welcome to the official discussion thread for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Every new generation a great dawn emerges where a new game in the acclaimed Super Smash Bros. series graces Nintendo's newest consoles… for the Wii U, that time is almost upon us. Nintendo is truly pulling out all the stops with this one. Here's the breakdown on what we can expect… (Learn more at the Super Smash Bros. website.)

1.) 45+ playable characters (new characters, returning fighters, or accessible via alt costumes)
2.) Releasing November 21st, November 28th, or December 5th depending on your region
3.) Tons of content; from trophies to levels to music tracks to items to pokemon to modes… it seemingly never ends!
4.) Customizable Move-sets
5.) Many control setups; Wii U Gamepad, standard Wii U options, Gamecube controllers, even your 3DS!
6.) Online capable (and encouraged)
7.) Check out Nintendo's 50 Things You Should Know about Smash Bros!
8.) Stages exclusive to the Wii U version. Some epic stages!
9.) Amiibo Support for all existing Amiibos
10.) Gameplay lands somewhere between Melee and Brawl

As you can see, there really is something for everyone, perhaps more than ever before. As I wrote this whole post up, I was listening to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl soundtrack and remembering the hours and days and weeks and months of fun I've had with that game. This will be no different and really will shake the Wii U community up in the best ways. Nintendo is on the eve of quite possible the most acclaimed game the console will have. This is a very exciting moment for Nintendo gamers. Speaking back on the music, you can listen to a bunch of neat samples from the upcoming game at the SmashBros.com Music Page. Be sure to check out Kapp'n's Song! It's a personal favorite of mine. The 3DS version is to have two-songs per stage but the Wii U version is meant to have that and more, even some songs from past games as well.

Please enjoy a few of my favorite images found on the official Super Smash Bros. website.

The release date in North America is November 21st and it was just moved up to November 28th in Europe. For all other regions you can expect December 5th. In the mean time, there's always the 3DS version which looks incredible in it's own right! You can discuss it in Jargon's thread here; Super Smash Bros. 3DS. We should aim to keep this thread focused on the Wii U version so that the 3DS discussion ends up in it's right place. Keep in mind that the Daily Updates are still being provided by Sakurai (for a few more weeks at least) and the best place to find and discuss those is Stephen's Super Smash Bros. News Discussion (Roster Spoilers) Now With Daily Images thread. I do my best to update that daily with the Sakurai posts.

Who is your main? What are you most excited for? Finally, be sure to have your friends added on your Wii U! I'll do my best to keep this thread updated with the various users who are playing this online.

TODAY'S NEW CONTENT

Wii U only
$2 -- Wind Waker Pirate Ship Stage (from Brawl)

3DS only
FREE -- Duck Hunt Stage (from Wii U version)

Wii U and 3DS
$2.50 (or $3.50 for both versions) -- Super Mario Maker Stage
And a whole bunch of Mii outfits for like a buck each

I'll be picking up Super Mario Maker stage for sure. And probably the Pirate Ship, which I quite liked in Brawl except for the whole swimming thing, I never really cared for that or ladders as a mechanic in Smash (so I like that the 3DS version doesn't bother with either).

Duck Hunt is a cool stage, and it's nice that it's coming to the 3DS version. I hope the Wii U version eventually gets some of the 3DS game's cooler stages, like Spirit Train, Game Boy Dream Land, Retro Mute City, Magicant, Arena Ferox, and PictoChat 2.

Woo, Pirate Ship! Possibly my favorite Smash stage of all.

The Omega version of the Pirate Ship is one of the lookout platforms! That's a neat detail.

This update also comes with yet another balance patch, but early reports are that most changes are to Custom specials, with only a few characters getting very minor tweaks to their standard moves. Ganondorf, Bowser, and Bowser Jr. got little buffs. Fox, Marth/Lucina, and Luigi got tiny nerfs. Luigi seems to have been affected most, with his down throw and Tornado being nerfed (and thus the extremely deadly combo of the two has been extra nerfed) but his meteor smash should be easier to pull off now.

I like how the Business Gunner has a briefcase cannon, haha. And Viridi beating up the villager...classic Smash humor. As cool as these are, I just don't use Miis much. I'd be much more likely to consider buying cosmetic DLC for the standard characters.

Well these came out of nowhere (aside from the Mario Maker stage). Awesome!

Haha, she specifically beats him up for cutting down the tree. Hilarious.

I'm still not really cool with $2 a stage.

...but I'm probably going to buy both of these. Eventually. Pirate Ship is one of my favorites.

Once I decide whether I'm going to try to recover my dead Wii U hard drive data or not.

New word on the streets: Shields have been nerfed HARD. The prime takeaway seems to be that this makes attacking shielding characters much safer, i.e. the balance of the game shifts more towards offense than defense. Which is exactly what competitive players have been asking for.

I am really happy that the developers are willing to tweak the game so much.

@Zero
That's like the price of a bag of chips, come on. What price do you honestly expect? A buck? 50 cents? Free?

I'm buying any and all stage/character DLC and occasionally dip into some Mii stuff just because.

@nate38
Wow, really? Good. Block/grab spam is obnoxious as goddamn shit.

Since when was the WW stage such a fan favorite? And why? I never thought it was anything that special...then again, Brawl was my least played Smash (even though I still really liked it).

The Omega version looks really nice but it's oddly three dimensional and detailed compared to all the others.

I have a few nice replays I'll upload later tonight from whatever version just came before this. But I also lost some good ones. I lost one just last night where I only got hit once by a Kirby. Was a super good round. Sucks ass that it didn't save for whatever reason. My slots aren't filled (according to the game) yet nothing managed to actually save for the past few days. What gives?

I just don't like the idea of paying significantly more per content for DLC than I did when I bought the original game.

$2 a stage would mean $60 for 30 stages... which is much less content than $60 for an entire new Smash Bros game.

I know I know, this is just how DLC is. Which is why I don't really like DLC in general.

This is awesome. From what we played yesterday, I kind of felt unsafe shielding repeatedly and I would shield with more caution. I just wonder if people will actually be more aggressive or just bait out attacks for punishes. Anyway, this plays to my style, I have always been SUPER aggressive in Smash.

Fun games yesterday, Mario Maker and Pirate Ship are both excellent stages.
10/01/15, 18:37
@anon_mastermind Yeah, good games with you and HOH and HammerLord (I think he showed up? Can't remember, I played for 5 hours straight last night with like 10 different people haha).

I didn't really notice the added shieldlag, but I wasn't paying too much attention. I wasn't as good as usual, and I think I tend to use shielding as a crutch when I get panicky or desperate, so maybe it did have an effect? Who knows. I'm very interested in seeing how it effects pro-level tournaments.
10/01/15, 19:38
The Mario Maker stage is fucking brilliant. Pirate Ship is also super fun, it's better than I remember it being, but then again this is Smash 4.

Didn't notice the shield thing either but then again I was playing with my brother online against CPU (teams) and items on, so I play quite different from my 1v1 stuff.
10/01/15, 23:32
I probably should've done my research on the Pirate Stage before buying it.

I thought finally I was going to get Molgera's Battle song with this stage, but alas that wound up not being the case
10/02/15, 00:14
Yoshi's dair puts a LOT of shield pressure now if you connect properly. Me likey.
10/02/15, 16:55
Sounds like the next character DLC may come in a trio, as was the case with Lucas/Roy/Ryu. The same data miner who leaked those three found three more extra character slots in the latest update. They're all named "Mario," though, so their real identities remain a mystery.

My money's on Petey Piranha, Qbby from BoxBoy, and Ken Griffey Jr. from Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball
10/03/15, 02:35
3 more chars? Hell yes.

Please for the love of fuck leakers just leave it at that. I don't need every single char in the game shown to me via some Gamexplain video. Let Nintendo surprise me please.

All named Mario eh? Could we be getting alt Marios? Other Mario chars? Or is this just to keep their identity secret?
10/03/15, 04:19
@carlosrox Probably just for secrecy. Nintendo's probably being more careful with their in-development assets after the last leak.
10/03/15, 04:27
Thank god. Those leakers actually piss me off. They're not doing shit but spoiling things for people.

So did that Smash Ballot just close? I tried to put in an entry for Simon Belmont and when I hit submit it told me I didn't have access to the page.

Simon Belmont, Goemon, and Ridley are all I require to die a happy man.
10/03/15, 21:44
I'd love Simon, Bomberman, Arthur from Ghosts'n'Goblins, and Bionic Commando!

Also, the Super Mario Maker is pretty cool. The DLC has been pretty well-timed, actually. It periodically rejuvenates my interest in Smash.
10/04/15, 23:38
@nate38
lol @ Ken Griffey Jr. I would love that so much, and I hope you voted for him on the Smash Ballot.
