Super Mario Maker Discussion (Nintendo Wii U) [game]

Super Mario Maker on the Wii U
9.1/10 from 22 user ratings

Welcome to the official discussion thread for Super Mario Maker on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Super Mario Maker is a new title from Nintendo where, for the first time ever, you will be able to create your own levels on your own console. The game released on September 11th, 2015.

Through Nintendo Directs, Nintendo Treehouse videos, and the Super Mario Maker website, there's quite a bit of information out now which is really showcasing how deep the creation tools are.

Four Main Themes To Choose From!
Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, New Super Mario Bros. U

What's really incredible is the slew of classic objects found inside. When an item wasn't part of a previous or later game theme, Nintendo has taken the time to make new sprites to allow you to always be able to switch on the fly from theme to theme. Some classic objects include, Goombas, Monty Moles, Invisible Blocks, Flagpoles, and so much more!

The man who was alongside Miyamoto all these years with the Super Mario series, Takashi Tezuka, is the producer of this game. Koji Kondo, acclaimed Nintendo-music composer, is again the lead composer of this game. I can't imagine we'll see much, if any, new music but it's great that any new renditions of classic themes will be handled by the father of it all.

I am looking to collect data on Negative World's levels we create so if you post a level in the thread, I would sincerely and greatly appreciate if you filled out this brief survey about it so the submissions will be collected and we can ensure that your levels are played for a long time to come as part of the Negative World collection. To view the levels, simply click on the link above the survey.

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

Uh... is this thread broken? I can't access the later replies. Though even if someone replies to this, I guess I won't see it

EDIT: Oh I guess I started a new page. Still can't view all the replies on the previous page though.

Carlos's video broke it, I dunno.

Yeah, it's weird. Perhaps because Carlos's video is so on topic, the page fainted.
09/25/15, 04:59
That's a new one.

I tried to put the stupid time thing into a video that was embedded differently. Ugh.

It wouldn't even let me get passed the video to edit it out.

If you look at the html of that page, it stops at that post too.

@carlosrox
I think it can be edited. Paste this in your address bar:

--OR--

http://www.negativeworld.org/boardedit.php?id=462154&pagenumber=40&messagetype=childmessage&threadid=12251

Ideally, that should let you edit it. I just wasn't sure which post referenced what.

This is what I had posted previously:

@Mr_Mustache

Play this one then!! 6059-0000-005E-4FB5

Here's a video how to beat it too:

Sigh, sorry :(

For your troubles here's free DLC for your game!

Freezing Furnace
01B9-0000-006A-D856

Definitely meant to be a harder stage but it's gotten easy to speed through with practice.

and

Big Little Planet
472F-0000-006A-7268

Funner stage that focuses on different bits, combat, and many different little ways to play. It's a mix of combat, platforming trickery, and some puzzle.

@carlosrox

Your Big Little Planet was good stuff, but what was up with that weird pit near the end?? It looked like a super secret exit, but it just dumped me into the lava!

@carlosrox

I fixed your post this morning, correcting that page of the thread. You missed the closing bracket on your iFrame. That caused the weird issue.

All better!

@DrFinkelstein
Thanks for taking care of my booboo :)

@TriforceBun
Haha now why would you go jump in a pit surrounded by spikes? You're right though, a pit wasn't really necessary there. Could have just been the spikes. Super glad you enjoyed it!

Just uploaded my first For Glory course. Took me quite a while to get everything just right.

Airship of Doom

Have at it folks!

Spiny Shoot 'Em Up
C3F6-0000-006D-33D7

A level focused on good use of the fire flower.
I've been generous with the power-ups, so if you want a challenge try finishing the level using only one fire flower.

@achhibbar
Sounds fun! Look forward to this one.

Here's a course I made today!

Walleye Warehouse - Splatoon
068D-0000-006D-F75F

Its design is loosely based on Walleye Warehouse rather than being a replica of it. It was a lot of fun taking inspiration from Splatoon to make a level. There's even a giant Splatterscope that fires at you!

Overgrown Manor
5E20-0000-006E-26AC

My first NSMBU stage. It's a pretty big one, taking up almost all of both areas. It's a very jungly Ghost House, with plenty of interactions inside and outside the mansion. Lots of vines everywhere too, and a couple tricky puzzles. Enjoy!
09/26/15, 05:31
Lots of good stuff coming out of NW! I'm loving this!
Only one stage left to beat and that's...
...@Octorockin's Splatoon stage!

I'm having serious problems with the super-fast conveyor belts. Blargg.
I suppose I'll come back to it tomorrow.

Bowser 3!!

I included something that we all want in the Mario maker update.. Have fun exploring

Skeleboo Caverns, my new level(s)... Didn't like how much I had to neuter it for the casuals, so I made a hard mode too.

Normal: 1EB-0000-006F-39AD
Hard Mode: C985-0000-006F-4C6AA

First time I've played in a few days... Guess I will have a lot of NW levels to play.

I hate, hate, hate how long it takes for piranha plants to pop out of their tubes in SMM! What's the deal with that? They should pop out almost right as they appear on screen so the player knows they are in there.

The game really needs an option to let us tweak the timing on stuff like this in general. It's one of those cases where trying to keep things too simple is actually making it more complicated and hurting level design possibilities.

I've posted a new level. "Hang on to Your Shell" It's a pretty quick level, at least if you manage to hang on to your shell. I can see future iterations as I adapt to the game, but it should do for now.

Edit: Corrected the course ID.
