Splatoon is Nintendo's unique twist on the shooter genre. Shoot ink on both your friends and environments to win the match! Players can turn into squids and 'swim' through their team's ink color. Players can also use their team's ink color to slow down enemy movement. It's ink or be inked in this chaotic marriage of third person shooters, de Blob, and good ole fashioned paintball.

Apparently Splatoon is outpacing Smash Bros sales in Japan.

You know, it is so rare that a new big Nintendo franchise comes along that isn't well... Wii Sports / Fit and Brain Training and such. I wonder if Splatoon will join the ranks and become a regular thing for each new console?

@Zero It deserves to be!

@Zero

But like it points out, the fact that there's a 3DS version of Smash may have cut into the sales of the Wii U version. Still, it's nice to not only see Splatoon do well but exceed Nintendo's expectations of the game.

Splatoon will totally continue.

@carlosrox

I agree. Splatoon was to my summer as Mario Kart 8 was to my summer last year. Played it almost every single night, for two or more hours.

Anyone hopping on tonight around 9/10 EST? Maybe if we have four, we can get a nice squad together.

@TheOldManFromZelda

I could go on around 10pm ET.

I can probably be on around either time. Let's squad battle some stuff! I'm one win away from A-.

Ooh, I wanna play! I'll see if Karen wants to do something else, first, but if not, I can join at 10.

I'm sitting down to watch a movie but I plan to show up at or around 10. I'll be in chat! Be sure you're in chat!

Awesome! I almost forgot I suggested this, haha. I'll be on normal online, but I'll be in chat. Word!

Later tonight I'll give the new gun a test.

How many are there????

Let me tell you about an old war buddy of mine. His name? "$$iMURUK"

I remember it clearly, as it was only minutes ago. Our splatoon was stationed in Flounder Heights, and I had found myself into a tight spot. Being a brush specialist, I don't do well in long-range combat, so when I leapt into the trenches to ink a wide swath of turf, I found myself being fired upon by a long-range weapon. My ink was vanishing quickly and I was running out of places to swim, so I struggled in vain against the bullets to get to safety, to no avail.

I closed my eyes, preparing myself for the end.

Just when I thought it was all over, a protective Bubble formed around me. Like a gift from the gods!

And I turned and saw $$iMURUK--a fellow brush user, no less--who'd activated his special in the nick of time to save my life! I was stunned. And alive. I looked his way, spitting out mouthfuls of foul enemy ink and managed to utter a single "Booyah!" in thanks. He turned to me, lowered his voice, and replied, "Booyah."

From that point on, we were best friends. We'd start each match off with twin "Booyah"s and both make a beeline for the center of the stage, climbing structures and littering the ground with ink below, or trying to sneak into the enemy side and squid-jumping (and Beakoning) for each other. We didn't always win, but we put up a heck of a fight.

Eventually, $$iMURUK got shipped back home. I'm not really sure what happened to him, but if he's out there somewhere, reading this message, I'd simply like to let him know this:

Booyah.

Your fellow brush mate,
-Bun

$$iMURUK

Your post made me think about the 'Booyah' messages and stuff. Over here in Europe we only seem to be able to say 'To me!' and 'Nice!', and I guess anything we input will be displayed as whatever the equivalent message is in the region on the receiving end. I wonder what phrases the Japanese players have to choose from?

@r_hjort
Oh my goodness! You found him! ...er, her! Surprised she's Japanese too, considering her name was in English (sorta). I'll have to send her a Miiverse drawing of us kicking butt with our brushes.

I haven't been able to play in two days because of our internet being down. Feeling withdrawals man.

woot after a good run I finally made it to a B rank
09/08/15, 03:26
@mrbiggsly

Right on! I've been playing Ranked a lot more lately but it means I'm bouncing up and down the B+ scale with no moving. Can't seem to get to A- despite having been a 97 points just the other day.

@TriforceBun
I didn't know this until pretty recently but if you go to your Friends List you can see a bunch of players you've recently played games with. A bunch of people in Smash tracked me down that way.

The mini splatling seems like a decent enough gun but that loadout just makes it so hard for me to justify it's existence.
09/09/15, 22:56
I have been getting back into this game again lately. I am only rank 11... I feel like I am missing out on a lot of the fun by not playing with friends and only doing random matches. I never even tried ranked mode. Am I Splatooning wrong?
