@Jargon

That used to confuse me as a child too

As I understand it though, it meant that they got a 'try' at goal. The try itself was worth nothing.

Nowadays the try scores 4 and the conversion 2. Think of it as a touchdown where you actually have to have control over and contact with the ball as it hits the ground. No spiking.

@Shadowlink

Aha. Definitely an awesome play then.

you actually do need control over the ball for a touchdown

Is it okay to be troubled by Caitlyn Jenner getting the courage award at the espy's since as far as I can tell she hasn't had anything to do with sports in ages, or am I just a giant bigot?
07/16/15, 06:21
hey, Stache, mark me down for the NY Giants and Buffalo Sabres, will ya? Bills and Lions are my 2nd/3rd teams, but, that might be overly complicating things.

Obviously the latter. =P Obviously.

In all seriousness though. I was hanging out with my slightly extended family the other night and the ad came on saying that she would be getting that Espy Award and I was like "what does parenting the Kardashian's have to do with sports?" Everyone over the age of 45 looked at me like I was a big dumb dumb head. It is amazing that in all this Kardashian (sp?) insanity no one ever mentions that Bruce Jenner was a top Olympic Athlete. At least not enough that word of it would get to someone like myself who does not seek the information but receives (too) much of it anyway.

In conclusion, given how long it has been since Bruce Jenner's athlete days, it is a bit of an obvious ploy on ESPN's part to appear inclusive. But, that said, I think it's fine because it does take a lot of courage and it's not like there is a more obvious/relevant/deserving choice that they are snubbing in favor of some good PR. So, yea, congrats, Jenner!

@NinSage

Yea people will point to Lauren Hill but she was recognized as well. And in general, I think exposing these issues to sports fans who aren't always known as the most open minded people (and I say that as a big sports fan) is a good thing.

@Jargon

I suppose those are all good things, but it would then appear to me that that award could conceivably go to literally anybody, even a casual sports fan, cause why not? Perhaps Caitlyn has been connected to sports in some way that I'm not aware. I don't know. Michael Sam makes perfect sense, Caitlyn less so. The cynic in me (and I'm honestly not too cynical) sees Caitlyn getting the award as a blatant ratings grab.

It is. It definitely is. But, it may have SOME positive social impact. Like, slightly more than zero. And that's good, right?

I mean, people are (unfortunately) going to do things for blatant ratings/cash grabs anyway. So, when it doesn't cost anything to also have a chance at a positive social impact? Why not?

Speaking of blatant cash grabs in the world of sports, when does that SI Body Issue come out? =P Remember, it's NOT porn. ... because they said it isn't. Also, there's no naughty bits.... as far as I know.

@Koovaps

Ah, shoot, that was on last night, wasn't it? Totally meant to watch, bah.

@NinSage

I'll do it later. This computer (at work) hates me so that I can't type much outside of what I'm doing here. Next time I'm on here though (at home), you're up!

@Jargon, and you other guys

A similar situation happened in WWE with the Warrior Award. Ultimate Warrior was inducted into the Hall of Fame just days before his shocking and untimely death, and during his speech he said that he wanted to see a new award, the Warrior Award, and to give it to people who aren't recognized in the WWE despite all they do, people like those who cook for them, or do blue collar tasks; behind the scenes people. Instead, they cut his speech up and framed it so it made sense to give it someone else, and it ended up honoring Connor Michaelek, a young boy who died of pediatric cancer. It is 100% OUTSIDE of Warrior's initial vision, and some feel that they went with this simply to strike while the iron was hot, the endgame being super good publicity for the WWE in the form of a brand new charity in their name. It's sadder and sadder the deeper you look into it, despite the obvious sadness surrounding a little boy who died far too young.

Alright American football people. Tell me if this performance as good as our crowing local media would have me believe.

Some good runs there from what I can tell, but nothing I don't see in Rugby League most weekends. Also what's with the running over the sideline? You'd lose possession if you did that here.
08/19/15, 13:01
@Shadowlink

Nothing amazing, but a few good runs. Since its the first preseason game, the competition probably wasn't great though.

Running out of bounds just stops your progress. It's encouraged at certain junctures of the game because it stops the clock.
08/19/15, 13:17
@Shadowlink

I think Hayne had a good showing. I actually asked Lou to pick him up for our team. I think his last return was the bright spot me while watching the game, though that run in the 2nd quarter there was pretty good. I think I missed that one somehow (I may've fastforwarded through it..).

Throwback Paint Schemes for Darlington next week

How freakin' cool. "All" (not sure if all) of the cars are running Throwback Paint Schemes at the same race, so its going to look like the 70's and 80's out there! Very iconic paint jobs out there; I especially like Kyle Larson's #42, running the Mello Yello car closely associated with Kyle Petty for a number of years. Neat!

@Mr_Mustache

No Kodak? No watch.
08/28/15, 03:10
@TheOldManFromZelda

Kodak doesn't sponsor anything anymore.

Harvick's 4 looked so freakin' close I initially THOUGHT they were spoofing the Kodak car we grew up with.
Did you see that thing?!

08/28/15, 03:47
@Mr_Mustache

I saw them all. Kodak could've gotten involved for at least one race!
08/28/15, 04:19
Watching Cubs-Dodgers and Donnie baseball is trying to ask for a replay, so the organist is killing some time. All of a sudden, I start hearing the Zelda theme playing! What the what! It actually played for a bit, too. Wild!

Kodak can't even get involved in being a business! Whats with them?!

@Koovaps

Organ players are pretty talented. Fred Costello is constantly ticklin' the ivories here.

Fuck Tom Brady.

Seriously, fuck that guy.
09/03/15, 17:24
@TheOldManFromZelda

Yeah, he's a REAL asshole. I want to see how the US feels about him after this in a Poll.

Look at his stupid smile. UGH.

EDIT- How can your team CHEAT TO WIN THE SUPER BOWL, and everything is FINE?!
NOT to mention destroying evidence. Why does an innocent man destroy a cellphone?
