Welcome to the official discussion thread for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Every new generation a great dawn emerges where a new game in the acclaimed Super Smash Bros. series graces Nintendo's newest consoles… for the Wii U, that time is almost upon us. Nintendo is truly pulling out all the stops with this one. Here's the breakdown on what we can expect… (Learn more at the Super Smash Bros. website.)

1.) 45+ playable characters (new characters, returning fighters, or accessible via alt costumes)
2.) Releasing November 21st, November 28th, or December 5th depending on your region
3.) Tons of content; from trophies to levels to music tracks to items to pokemon to modes… it seemingly never ends!
4.) Customizable Move-sets
5.) Many control setups; Wii U Gamepad, standard Wii U options, Gamecube controllers, even your 3DS!
6.) Online capable (and encouraged)
7.) Check out Nintendo's 50 Things You Should Know about Smash Bros!
8.) Stages exclusive to the Wii U version. Some epic stages!
9.) Amiibo Support for all existing Amiibos
10.) Gameplay lands somewhere between Melee and Brawl

As you can see, there really is something for everyone, perhaps more than ever before. As I wrote this whole post up, I was listening to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl soundtrack and remembering the hours and days and weeks and months of fun I've had with that game. This will be no different and really will shake the Wii U community up in the best ways. Nintendo is on the eve of quite possible the most acclaimed game the console will have. This is a very exciting moment for Nintendo gamers. Speaking back on the music, you can listen to a bunch of neat samples from the upcoming game at the SmashBros.com Music Page. Be sure to check out Kapp'n's Song! It's a personal favorite of mine. The 3DS version is to have two-songs per stage but the Wii U version is meant to have that and more, even some songs from past games as well.

Please enjoy a few of my favorite images found on the official Super Smash Bros. website.

The release date in North America is November 21st and it was just moved up to November 28th in Europe. For all other regions you can expect December 5th. In the mean time, there's always the 3DS version which looks incredible in it's own right! You can discuss it in Jargon's thread here; Super Smash Bros. 3DS. We should aim to keep this thread focused on the Wii U version so that the 3DS discussion ends up in it's right place. Keep in mind that the Daily Updates are still being provided by Sakurai (for a few more weeks at least) and the best place to find and discuss those is Stephen's Super Smash Bros. News Discussion (Roster Spoilers) Now With Daily Images thread. I do my best to update that daily with the Sakurai posts.

Who is your main? What are you most excited for? Finally, be sure to have your friends added on your Wii U! I'll do my best to keep this thread updated with the various users who are playing this online.

@Mr_Mustache

Ness is my main man (though I always play as a different character each time), but I refuse to spam PK Fire, or any move for that matter. I have jumped off the stage in many a For Glory 1-on-1 match due to players using the same move set over and over and over again. It's not fun to fight against, and I can't imagine it's fun to play as. I play Smash with having fun as my goal. If I have to sacrifice myself to end a match due to some butt fungus with a point to prove, then so be it.

@Mr_Mustache

You know, I think people just notice Ness's attacks more than most other characters because he shouts them out loud! If Fox made a "TAKE THAT" sound every time he shot his laser or did a Reflector (instead of a soft, background-ish sound effect), people would complain about those too...!

@TriforceBun

I think it stands out so much because Ness shouts, you can't move if you get hit, and Ness gets a free hit that may flow into a combo. It's the hoo haa combo in screaming projectile form!

I find Pit annoying as shit. His yells are so obnoxious when you fight him.

---------

I really got into All Star Mode now, especially with the really cool trophy you get with every game. Is there any reason to finish it on Hard with everyone? I really doubt I'd be able to do that without my mains. It's easy enough on Normal with others though. Actually really fun playing that mode with the others I don't use too much. Somehow teaching me a lot.

That Gamer stage is bullshit in All Star. Get caught once by the Mom with about 60% or so and you're dead. The fuck is that?

@carlosrox

Yes, it's a challenge. It really wasn't that hard. It was annoying that you'd sometimes die from a projectile glitch, but you learn to avoid and take out the dangerous characters quickly (Olimar, Ness, Villager, Samus). I don't think it took me more than a few tries for any one character and most of the time I'd do it one attempt.

Gamer is a real pain though when it comes up.

Yeah I thought All-Star with every character on Hard would be impossible when I first saw that challenge. But like @Jargon said, you really just have to keep an eye on the characters with projectiles. Nobody else can KO you until you get over like 250%. And obviously some stages are rougher than others, depending on hazards and whatnot.

Played For Glory for about two hours last night. I think I played six or seven different guys, all of them at or close to my level. I said "good game" to all of them after each match, and most (maybe all?) of them responded in kind. One of them was a campy Dedede who did nothing but roll away and hit Gordos, really annoying and surprisingly effective against some characters. But I still had fun experimenting how to counter that with six or seven different fighters. He did taunt now and then, but it was usually when something funny-ish would happen and we basically went 50/50, so I didn't take it personally.

Fantastic round.

08/19/15, 21:00
@carlosrox That guy's fighting style is...bizarre. He's just throwing out random attacks at nothing half the time. And those shorthop air dodges...? Never seen anybody try to fight like that. It obviously didn't help lol.
08/19/15, 22:21
@nate38
I think I threw him off pretty quick, that's why. He could clearly move pretty well but right from that first shot he probably got confused. Then after that he was just having no luck. Even the very last shot, he was like a pixel off dodging it completely. I felt like he knew how to play well. It mighta looked easy, but he made me work for it.

Plus, I was dodging his stuff pretty well too!

I had a decent Ryu round or two the other day I'm considering uploading. Ryu could be very powerful but you really gotta think and be creative when using him. He's pretty awesome actually. Finishing a round with a properly executed Shoryuken is pretty damn cool.

There is a rumor going around that a new character DLC will be announced soon, possibly this week: Shovel Knight

I'd be cool with that. I still think Inkling is a sure thing, and sooner than later.

@nate38
I like Shovel Knight and the game he stars in, but he seems too young (for a third-party) to be in Smash. Prior third-party Smash characters have all been these legendary icons that've been around for decades (Snake, Sonic, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Ryu). I feel like Shovel Knight needs a bit more time to avoid being sort of a flash-in-the-pan inclusion.
08/26/15, 22:33
@TriforceBun
I agree with this. Love his game to bits, but don't think he's worthy of something like this yet. But I won't get angry if the rumor is true or anything. There are far worse recent characters that could pop up.
08/26/15, 22:35
@TriforceBun @r_hjort Fair enough. Personally, I've stopped caring about who "deserves" to be in Smash anymore, because there's basically none of those left. Nintendo's already scraping the bottom of their own barrel with characters like Dark Pit and Greninja. And there are few (if any) third party characters on the level of Ryu or Pac-Man, let alone Sonic and Mega Man. I'd say there's a precipitous drop of "Smash-worthy" third party characters after those guys, and Ryu and Pac-Man were both pretty big stretches for me already.

At this point, all I care about is that the new characters are fun to play with.

I won't hate if he's in, but I won't really love it either.

Others deserve a slot before him I think.

Still, it'd be cool, it'd represent Nintendo playing nice with Indies, and the game is quite good (and a love letter to NES Nintendo).

K I've somehow fallen in love with Smash 4 even more than I already was. I'm like obsessed with this game. Need my daily dose.

I guess playing All Star Mode and Classic on the harder difficulties (dunno why I held off for so long!) and hitting that pause button to characters I'm finally learning how to play has really done it for me.

Easily my favorite Smash game, and quite possibly my favorite Wii U game. And that's saying a lot because I loved Melee back in the day, and love many a Wii U game. The level of detail and love poured into this game has just reached absurd levels. I've been miiverse posting like fucking mad lately. I'm gonna have to share some of these pics here soon cuz they're just gorgeous.

I love Splatoon to bits, but I gotta say Smash still edges it out for me.

Smash NX would be batshit insane, especially if NX is anywhere NEAR PS4 level tech. I mean, this game is already 1080/60. Increase mesh poly count a bit, some better textures, and make the animation even better, and I'm fuckin' set for life.

Oh and til then, DLC the shit out of characters, cuz I'm picking them all up no matter who they are.

Wow did I reach an image limit? The moment I split the post in half at that very last pic it started breaking up.

Holy fuck at this pic.

Yeah I've seen people say this is not a pretty game. They are incorrect.

That said, I do really dislike the gaudy "smash trails" or whatever they're called, like you see in this pic. I wish you could turn those off.

I'm not crazy about the little "whooshes" that characters have now either, but at least they make the game more legible.

@nate38
Some are good, some are bad. Next gen ones would look very nice.

Some more good rounds these days. Got two pretty good ones here. Moreso the second which I love (first perfect!).

Once again he started the taunt game when he finally KOed me (once!) which I find poor sportmanship considering I never taunted him once. So I had to get back. And get back I did.

Then the guy gave me my first perfect! Shit was it ever tense! And for the record he actually beat me like 3 times with Ganonndorf. I had to leave at this note though.
09/01/15, 10:15
Nice perfect! I imagine the frantic music in the Metroid stage made it that much more tense, haha.

I played a guy last night who taunted each time he got a KO. Of course, he only got a KO once every two or three matches, so I have to imagine the taunt is more "All right I finally got one!" than "Look how good I am." He actually won the first match we played with both of his stocks remaining, I had one ugly SD and he had a really nice meteor (that I realized must have been lucky considering his later performances...). He said "GG" after that first match that he won, but none of the others.

And considering that's the most jerk-y guy I've played in a long while, I think most of the real trolls have gone. It's more often than not now that I get a "GG" in response to when I say "good game". One guy had an "Expand Dong" tag last night, that's about as bad as it ever gets for me anymore.

I won't say that For Glory is perfect, but it's such a huge part of Smash 4 for me that I'm incredibly thankful that Sakurai threw "serious" Smash this bone.

A thousand!
