Splatoon is Nintendo's unique twist on the shooter genre. Shoot ink on both your friends and environments to win the match! Players can turn into squids and 'swim' through their team's ink color. Players can also use their team's ink color to slow down enemy movement. It's ink or be inked in this chaotic marriage of third person shooters, de Blob, and good ole fashioned paintball.

Nintendo is putting $1 million into the prize pool for a Splatoon tournament in Japan. That is an enormous prize pool for any game, let alone a franchise that just launched on a struggling system. Maybe they're trying to encourage aspiring eSports professionals to give Splatoon (and Wii U) a serious look...

I liked Flounder Heights on Turf Wars and Rainmaker quite a bit, but Splat Zones not so much. There are a lot of paths and ways to sneak up on the enemy territory. Cool map.

@ploot

Being able to play Turf Wars, Tower Control, and Rainmaker randomly at all times instead of having just one type to play for a few hours sounds like a great idea. That way the rotation factor is retained, but is utilized in a more enjoyable way.

On a different note, Flounder Heights is pretty complex based off of my first impressions. All of the different routes and ink-able walls to climb were making my head spin! It's fun, though.

Nintendo's attention to detail, man.

I've been unable to complete a ranked battle all weekend... anyone else having trouble?

@mrbiggsly

Briefly but I did try and succeed. Showed no signs of problems.

Pretty cool! I didn't catch those details when I did some recon on that stage the other day. It's fun to explore the multiplayer maps like that and take in all of the sights and sounds that are easy to miss when ink is flying everywhere.

I've lurked so much this summer that I've probably read every post in this thread. I can't believe I almost didn't buy this game. I honestly might not ever play another shooter as long as I live. It along with Mario Kart and Smash are the Triforce of party gaming. I'm absolutely in love with the method of content release and I think the game should be re-reviewed by many major outlets in regards to the amount of content included.

I only get to play a time or two each week, but I wanted to let everyone know I updated my Mii name to "Alex √(-1)" in honor of the fact that it isn't the real me and also make it easier to recognize me instead of with the name Alistair. Assuming of course anyone remembers the lurkers.

@legendofalex

I played some matches with you last week! Not many, but it's always nice to get some games in with Negative World members.

I played a few matches with Guillame and Jarsh on Sat, and the game really liked putting me and Guillame together. Some good games!

@carlosrox

Yeah, that was fun! And then on Sunday I tried playing again, and lost 19 out of 20 games.

Last night was super fun, with het_knik there for a bit, Marsh, VoEsclaflowne, Lou and others. 6-7 people were on my friends list in those matches, haha.

@Guillaume

That name massacre. I'll forgive you this time, Gulilame.

@VofEscaflowne

Caslorox called me Guillame. Twice! Just paying it forward.

Gosdamnit.

What the heck is with the Dynamo Roller? No offense, Guillaume, but that weapon was a royal pain in my squiddish neck. It's slow, but it's got a TIDAL WAVE of ink with the world's giantest hitbox that's so disjointed it makes Smash's Wii Fit Trainer jealous. Unlike other shotgun-style weapons, the Dynamo's ink blast is an instant-kill no matter how far you are from it, making it equally viable for kills and inking turf. I have zero defense against this monster. It feels like going toe-to-toe with someone who has a Special constantly activated. Whenever there were two on a team tonight, they never lost, and they consistently had the most kills AND ink coverage. Frustrating!

@TriforceBun

Hahaha, it's a really fun weapon. Never played rollers before this week, and I looove it!

I think Fabien found the defense against it. I'll let him tell you about it, because *I* am not going to!

But yeah, I had a pretty good night overall. To be honest I think I got lucky and my teammates pulled me up. My splat ratio and ink coverage were generally not that impressive.

@Guillaume
Well, Fabien was running a Charger, and that can at least outrange the Dynamo. My Octobrush had some trouble though--I had to rely fully on stealth to stand a chance against that 5 ft cylinder of destruction!
08/26/15, 06:48
@TriforceBun
Stealth is def. the way to go vs. Dynamo Rollers. Take advantage of that slow flick speed and hit them in between flicks.
08/26/15, 07:01
@anon_mastermind

Even if you hit them in between flicks, you have to be really quick about it. More often than not, after they die, the splash damage still occurs and you'll just double KO which is just as bad if you're trying to hold others back.
08/26/15, 07:09
@VofEscaflowne
Yeah, this happens a lot! Something about the animation of the Dynamo makes it usually continue (and splat you) even if you splat them during the windup. It's one of many wonky things about that attack's animation/range/hitbox. Gets even wonkier against Japanese players where there's sometimes a bit of lag.
