Splatoon is Nintendo's unique twist on the shooter genre. Shoot ink on both your friends and environments to win the match! Players can turn into squids and 'swim' through their team's ink color. Players can also use their team's ink color to slow down enemy movement. It's ink or be inked in this chaotic marriage of third person shooters, de Blob, and good ole fashioned paintball.
Nooooo I won't be able to try the update this weekend! Going to Portland with fam to visit fam. I'll have my Wii U with me and a few games, but it'll be off TV only and I doubt I'll have any internet.
So there's a 16 yr old kid who works with us over the summer who has shown interest in certain Wii U games that me and my bro have pushed into buying one (what an awkward sentence). It's gotten pretty easy by telling him how incredible Splatoon is over the past few days. Props to him, I'm impressed. I thought he was gonna stick to hid XB1 and games his buddies play. He went from interest, to maybe, to hype, all within a week or two. Me and my bro don't help with all the stuff we tell him :) He won't be sorry. I know he really loves COD (he actually plays a lot of other stuff too, has smash on 3ds already, etc). When he squads up with me and my bro he's gonna love the shit out of this game. I'm pretty sure he's quite a skilled player, I know he spends a pretty obscene amount pf time gaming. I'm quite pleased with this whole situation :)
Not sure if it's placebo or what, but the tweaks they made to Ranked seem to have made the mode feel much more fair to me. Played for about an hour just now, doing better and better with the Heavy Splatling for every match, and I had a tremendous time. I didn't even mind the new soundtrack, even though I still prefer the old one. What the hell am I going to complain about now?!
@PogueSquadron I think it requires the most teamwork of any mode, and the lack of voice communication stands out with Rainmaker. But it's a fun mode, feels like a more free-flowing Tower mode.
@carlosrox Well, that's true, but in this case it feels like things have gotten more enjoyable because the points distributed after the ranked matches seem more fair somehow, not quite as punishing when you lose.
Definitely don't knock it till you try it. I'm not even the biggest fan of it but I can respect it's uniqueness especially when played with a full set of players.
Not sure about this Rainmaker thing. It doesn't seem like a bad mode, but I think I'm having more fun with the more structured stuff in Splat Zones and Tower Control. There's almost too much freedom for me, somehow.
Played my first 3 games of Rainmaker. Fast, fast, fast! First game ended up with "the good guys" winning via, uhh... non-knock out. We would have had the knockout if I had looked at the map. I tried taking the Rainmaker to their camp, not the clearly marked area. The next two matches were barely a minute long (That's what she said!), with us splitting matches. Would have played more, but got too much stuff to do on my last two days of vacation.
