hey, Stache, mark me down for the NY Giants and Buffalo Sabres, will ya? Bills and Lions are my 2nd/3rd teams, but, that might be overly complicating things. Koovaps said:Is it okay to be troubled by Caitlyn Jenner getting the courage award at the espy's since as far as I can tell she hasn't had anything to do with sports in ages, or am I just a giant bigot? Obviously the latter. =P Obviously. In all seriousness though. I was hanging out with my slightly extended family the other night and the ad came on saying that she would be getting that Espy Award and I was like "what does parenting the Kardashian's have to do with sports?" Everyone over the age of 45 looked at me like I was a big dumb dumb head. It is amazing that in all this Kardashian (sp?) insanity no one ever mentions that Bruce Jenner was a top Olympic Athlete. At least not enough that word of it would get to someone like myself who does not seek the information but receives (too) much of it anyway. In conclusion, given how long it has been since Bruce Jenner's athlete days, it is a bit of an obvious ploy on ESPN's part to appear inclusive. But, that said, I think it's fine because it does take a lot of courage and it's not like there is a more obvious/relevant/deserving choice that they are snubbing in favor of some good PR. So, yea, congrats, Jenner! |

@KoovapsAh, shoot, that was on last night, wasn't it? Totally meant to watch, bah. @NinSageI'll do it later. This computer (at work) hates me so that I can't type much outside of what I'm doing here. Next time I'm on here though (at home), you're up! @Jargon, and you other guysA similar situation happened in WWE with the Warrior Award. Ultimate Warrior was inducted into the Hall of Fame just days before his shocking and untimely death, and during his speech he said that he wanted to see a new award, the Warrior Award, and to give it to people who aren't recognized in the WWE despite all they do, people like those who cook for them, or do blue collar tasks; behind the scenes people. Instead, they cut his speech up and framed it so it made sense to give it someone else, and it ended up honoring Connor Michaelek, a young boy who died of pediatric cancer. It is 100% OUTSIDE of Warrior's initial vision, and some feel that they went with this simply to strike while the iron was hot, the endgame being super good publicity for the WWE in the form of a brand new charity in their name. It's sadder and sadder the deeper you look into it, despite the obvious sadness surrounding a little boy who died far too young. |
