This week’s Nintendo Download includes the following featured content:

Nintendo eShop on Wii U

Art Academy: Home Studio
– Now it’s easier than ever to make your home an art studio as you learn to paint and draw, or sharpen your current skills. Follow along with 30 new art lessons, and create your own masterpieces using the Wii U GamePad controller. Share works of art via Miiverse, and even upload time-lapse videos of your creations to YouTube. If you have the Art Academy: SketchPad software on your Wii U system, you’ll get $4.00 off when you buy Art Academy: Home Studio. To take advantage of this offer, visit the Nintendo eShop on Wii U.

Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna) – Never Alone is an atmospheric puzzle platformer developed in collaboration with the Iñupiat, an Alaska Native people, drawn from a traditional story that has been shared across generations. Available exclusively in the Wii U version of the Never Alone game, collect more than 20 in-game Cultural Artifacts that feature beautiful high-resolution images and compelling background information drawn from the collections of the Smithsonian Institution.

Shiftlings – Control two adorably dimwitted space janitors in this quirky puzzle platformer. You must shift size and weight between the two cosmic custodians, who are conjoined by an air hose, to avoid dangerous traps and fix problems before disaster strikes. Play on your own or with a friend locally through the zaniest locations in the known (and unknown) universe.

Virtual Console on Wii U

Star Fox Command
– An evil has emerged from the planet Venom, and now Fox McCloud and his elite team of pilots must reunite to defend the Lylat system from a massive invasion. Plot strategic flight paths on the touch screen as you soar through a story that features nine different endings and popular characters like Falco Lombardi and Krystal.

Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time – In this quest of lunatic proportions, Mario and Luigi team up with none other than … their younger selves! Originally appearing on the Nintendo DS system, control both sets of brothers at once in this intriguing (and hilarious) action RPG that leads you beyond the Mushroom Kingdom. Explore Mario’s world across space and time as you take down the evil alien invaders, the Shroobs!

Anyone who hasn't checked out Sega's 3D Classics should totally do so now. Amazing versions of amazing games. Sonic and Streets of Rage especially, IMO.

So...nothing new on 3DS at all this week? That's uh, weak.

I pre-loaded Art Academy so I'll be giving that a shot later. I've never tried these titles except the simple version they released a while back so I was eligible for a discount. I'm curious to see what it offers and how it's presented.

@r_hjort Yeah I'll most likely be picking up 3D Sonic on sale.

I can't draw for crap, so Art Academy might be a fun investment. But I also like to rest my hand on a surface while I'm scribbling, and that doesn't play nice with the Wii U touch screen.

Partners in Time get!!!!

@VofEscaflowne
Art academy seems really neat... but I know it's not something I'd really use that much. Still would be fun to mess around with. I'm torn!

What's different about Art Academy aside from the time lapse uploads (which is a very tempting feature)?

@carlosrox

There's 30 lessons, a virtual house that you can walk in and display your drawings on the wall. In-game Miiverse support and the ability to store as many drawings (I think?) as long as you have the space. Youtube support is there for the time lapse uploads obviously. More drawing tools are there as well... and I'm not sure what else. I'm just dabbing in it right now and completed my first tomato lesson!

Woo!

EDIT: Oh wait, I just saw that there's 30 slots to save. Which is still better than the what... 6 the original had? Plenty of room anyway. Plus it gives you the option to save to your SD card which has 120 slots.

@VofEscaflowne
Not bad dude!

I should probably do those lessons, the art school I went to didn't teach traditional techniques, I could probably learn something.

@deathly_hallows

I don't have much drawing experience or any lessons aside from whatever I did in high school and the occasional drawing for fun so I'm interested in what this'll do by the time I'm done with it. The first lesson was fun though! And I'm happy with how it turned out. Now I have the picture displayed in the virtual house for all to see! Well okay only me... but it's a nice personal touch

@VofEscaflowne
Can you share your house online? If not that might be a neat feature they could add later.

@deathly_hallows

Seriously doubt it but even if you can't, you can just as easily share your pics on Miiverse anyway. Or just take pictures of your house and share them I guess.

There is a section of the house that has a wall which when displayed will pics will be shared across all users on the Wii U. I'm the only user on the Wii U here but it's a nice addition for those that have their whole family using the console.

EDIT: Took a pic where I displayed my first lesson.

There's been a lot of DSiWare released lately...

I'm definitely downloading, NEVER ALONE! The game is very beautiful and the entire narrative is wrapped up in the stories of the Alaskan Native Iñupiat people, of which 40 community members were consulted in weaving this tale.

I've read many reviews on the game, there are a few bugs here or there, which doesn't bother me and the game can be completed in around 4-5 hours, but the overall experience is very rich and the different stories told by the different Iñupiat people is very moving from what I've read.

I'll post more impressions about the game once I actually start playing it.

Starfox Command is an interesting choice. It'll probably play pretty well with the bombs the touchscreen, and such.

I'm going to buy pretty much all of those Sega 3D Classics. I was just waiting for a sale.

@Mop it up
They seem to be dumping the rest of the GG series from Japan, SOME of which is actually pretty good. But how in the hell would we know which ones to buy?

@VofEscaflowne
Whoa! That's freaking cool, what a sweet house! Nintendo always has really cool house in their games, like in Nintendogs the houses were always so spacious and classy with awesome light and great views. I wonder what Miyamoto's house is like? I bet it's freaking amazing.

@Anand
They should sell a GG bundle! Pretty much all of them are cool games. I still play them on DSi XL sometimes! The tank one is my favorite, but I forget the name... anyway it's awesome.

EDIT: Oh yeah, D-TANK!!!!

The GG games are actually good?!? I just assumed they were shovelware.

Partners in Time gets an unnecessarily negative reputation compared to it's predecessor and sequel. It's a lot of fun and recommended to fans of RPGS, especially Mario and Luigi or Paper Mario. It's certainly preferable to Dream Team.

@Hero_Of_Hyrule

Haven't played Dream Team, but I agree that Partners in Time is definitely worth playing. I don't really see it as being below Bowser's Inside Story.

@Jargon

I think it gets overlooked because the first game established the series and BiS could point to playing as Bowser, the 2D segments inside him, and the way those two elements interact as a big defining feature. Partners in Time had the babies and Time Travel, but didn't necessarily do anything as game changing as Bowser's Inside Story did with its unique mechanics.

Instead Partners in Time offers a very solid follow up to the original while going in a somewhat dark direction with the Shroobs. It's interesting and very creepy to think that out in Mario's version of space is a bunch of mushroom people that want to consume his planet. They're just out there somewhere, waiting. And this was before the Galaxy games established space in the world of Mario to be a colorful and fun place. It's unsettling.
