amiibo is certainly turning out to be a big thing in Nintendo's eyes. Whether or not the rewards for utilizing each amiibo is worthy to you, Nintendo plans to implement all sorts of bonuses. It appears right now that every amiibo is meant to do 'something' in each game though games not featuring certain characters may have more limited uses or lesser-valued ones. We've had plenty of threads on here for amiibo and I'm sure that will continue. Still, I wanted to establish a general discussion thread that doesn't have a specific focus or thought. Went to one post office today. Not extraordinarily friendly; apparently I was at the "wrong one," even though it was the closest. How's that make sense? Shouldn't my closest post office be handling my mail? Talk about efficiency.

No status updates since Saturday morning. Where the F is my Ness..?

Some Post Offices are just retail units, so that's not too surprising. Amanda actually works at one of those. As for the package, was the last scan "out for delivery?" A delivery supervisor really needs to talk to the carrier. There are a few possibilities. It's always a bummer when packages disappear.

As for amiibo generally, these things are getting better and better. That September set looks spectacular!

My Status says "In Transit By Post Office." I'd tracked something a week or so prior, and I know that it says "Out for Local Delivery" as my final step (at least thats what I'm used to seeing), so yeah. I'm gonna go to my place today, probably.


EDIT- It was sitting outside my door around noon, even though it never said it was delivered. Mysteriously arrives a day late without notice. I don't get it. In any event, Ness is safe and in my home. That was ahful.

Miyamoto talks Arwing Amiibo...

"I'm sure you're aware of the amiibo shortage situation, even with the back orders and repeat orders. We kind of have our hands full. Earlier, we talked about how the 3D model of the Arwing will actually transform [into a two-legged Walker] in the game. We have an actual model and we're thinking how much it would actually cost to make when it's transformable Can we actually do that? We're thinking about a lot of different things right now."

Transforming Arwing Amiibo? That's pretty cool actually. I'd be all over that.

We have a few Amiibos that the kids wanted right now and they do enjoy the functionality. I've kinda come around to them but I think the Splatoon functionality is too much to be locked to specific figures, I don't mind the spinner weapon in Hyrule Warriors functionality and the Woolly World stuff seems interesting. If Nintendo can keep the additions simple yet fun then I will be happy to pick up the odd figure now and then. Of course actually being able to pick up the ones you want would be handy.

REGGIE - NINTENDO TRIPLES AMIIBO SALES ESTIMATES TO TRY AND MEET DEMAND

Coming from a CNET interview with Reggie Fils-Aime...

"We're at a point where we have to take our volume estimates and double them or triple them based on the levels of demand we're seeing. We're working very hard to meet that demand. For us it's making sure we continue to innovate on the gameplay. I know our content is strong. I know what we're executing is unique and compelling."

I feel like they are making more money from their toys than their games right now...

Nah, the profit margins on these things is actually probably pretty low since they have to be manufactured and shipped. Compare that to the profit margins of a $60 game (especially when downloaded on the eShop) and it's no contest.

That's why the Chibi Robo bundle is smart, they'll get the people who want the amiibo to spend $30 on it.

I feel like Reggie is full of shit as usual, in his WSJ interview he said "We are producing amiibo as quickly as we can and getting them out into the marketplace as quickly as we can." That's simply a lie, at least it's not the whole truth, they're picking and choosing some Amiibos to manufacture in quantity and others are made deliberately scarce.

There is no pent up demand for Mario Amiibos, you can find those in any store across the nation. But what about the Squid from Splatoon? Where is that? Did Nintendo really make "as many as they could"? How can that be possible? If they wanted it to be available to everyone they would have simply just made more Squids and less Marios. And with stuff like Marth, how long has he been rare? Are they saying they couldn't make enough? Still? After they've introduced like a dozen more SKUs?

If the demand is too great for their factories to handle then they should stop releasing new waves and tool-up to the point where the factories can handle the demand. Simply put they shouldn't promise new Amiibos and then only manufacture 1 per Gamestop, they have to be aware that won't be enough, maybe at first they were caught off guard but at this point they simply have to be aware.

Apparently, dudes, Wii Fit Trainer has been popping up on Amazon at MSRP. It says "in stock June 20th," so swing by at random times tomorrow. Good luck!

@Zero I wouldn't be surprised if amiibo are making more money than Wii U (or a similar amount), but the 3DS should be raking in the profits.
