I've heard that retail copies will have one of the paths "on the cart" to begin with, and then the "other path" will be DLC. If you buy the game from the eShop, you play the first five or six missions, then you choose which path you want to take and buy the relevant DLC for your choice.

Don't quote me on that, though.

@Octorockin

I'll be doing the easy path first, then try and tackle the harder one after. With the new stuff they are building with this game, I want to get used to it before jumping into the deep end.

@PogueSquadron

Eh, you won't really notice the video quality when playing the game. Heck, those scene may not be *actual* HD, but they'll be in 3D! Which is better. If you can see it. Man, I hope NX will be HD *and* 3D. Best of both worlds.

I have done a lot of digging on this game, and the fact is the there is no confirmed answer on how Nintendo is handling this game on the western side. Two things have been said. 1. Once you get to the sixth chapter you get to pick which side you want to play on. 2. There will be two version of the game. Those statements are contradictory. However, I have seen more of 2 being the case than I have of 1. While, I dislike the idea of a split game, it may not be that bad or it could be awful.

Will each game be $40 or is there a discount so some sort? Then, will the length of the game be worth it? Each Side has a different story. on the Birthright side you defend from the invading Nohr. In Conquest you are starting/partaking in a revolution within the country of Nohr. Despite the two stories, will there be enough content. Will each game only be half of what FE:A was? Will it be reduced to a third because of the DLC route where you don't take either side?

If it is split, then the best possible out come would be that the games have the same amount of content a FE:A with Both games being $30 or one game being $40 and being able to get the second version for a good discount. The worst would be meager content while costing $40 per game.

Even if it is regrettable, I'll be getting both versions. Ahh, I look forward to the incest on the Birthright side. NoA BETTER NOT CHANGE THE GAME BY MAKING YOU UNRELATED TO YOUR REAL FAMILY! I'd be so pissed, but if the JP version has them being unrelated I'd be a bit displeased, but I would accept their decision.

Yeah. There's no confirmed plan stated for the West yet probably because it won't ship until early next year. They have quite some time to let us know/figure it out.

@Shield Hero

You really want the incest...!

@GameDadGrant

Of course I do. It is only natural.

It wouldn't be the first time Fire Emblem threw a wink at sibling romance...

As someone who hasn't played any Fire Emblem at all, something like a Tactics Advance for the series could be cool. I always liked Tactics Advance more than Tactics, so maybe that would help me get into Fire Emblem?

@Pokefreak911

Tactics Advance? As in, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance?

Looks like there are two separate versions like Japan. And then some third DLC version that ties the two together somehow?

Also one version will allow for M/M gay marriage while the other will allow for F/F lesbian marriage. And then the third DLC version will allow for both or something?

Not even kidding.

Kudos to Nintendo for being more inclusive this time around! I wonder if choosing a same sex marriage will mean no kids though? Would miss out on getting some extra soldiers that way.

It seems like the DLC is the "true route". Good Ol' Nintendo Gonna nickle and dime us! Bet each version will be $40. Pretty Sure the DLC has the same number of chapters as the others. I really hope there is a major discount for getting all three, or something.

And there is no (very minor spoilers, but you might start drawing your own conclusions) ****ING (hey, can I curse?) INCEST, EVEN IN THE JP VERSION! However, that doesn't mean you can't have kids with your family. Cuz you totally can! At least that is what I have heard from people who have the JP version.

@Shield Hero Yeah I read something about that too. Was that an accident or did Nintendo just straight up go hey, why not?!
06/24/15, 08:19
@Zero

Which part are you talking about?
06/24/15, 08:20
@GameDadGrant
Yeah. FFT Advance was way more approachable to me than FFT for some reason, probably the setting and stuff. I'd love something like that for Fire Emblem, a game which changes up the setting and stuff.

@Shield Hero Having kids with family members or whatever.

@Zero
Good stuff. Kudos to Nintendo indeed.

To be honest I'm pretty surprised they not only reacted so quickly (this is clearly a response to the Tomodochi Life thing) but came out and publicized their decision so it won't fly under the radar. It probably says something about where public consciousness stands in the West on this as well... we're still fighting for legalization in all states here in America but Nintendo obviously feels like they can be open about this without fearing serious repercussions. It's hard to imagine "family friendly" Nintendo doing this 10 years ago or whatever but the definition of family has been changing to become more inclusive as well. People like that Modern Family show right? (I've never really seen it...)
06/24/15, 16:41
Hmm, my kudos MAY have been premature. From what I am reading the MM / FF relationships are both relying on problematic stereotypes, with the MM relationship being abusive and the FF relationship being about the sexiness of a FF relationship.

We'll see.

@gojira From what I can find, the two versions will be titled "White Kingdom" and "Black Kingdom." I somehow missed this entry when I put those into the database, I guess it was made back when it was known as Fire Emblem If. In any case, if you want to change this entry to either "White Kingdom" or "Black Kingdom" then I'll re-purpose the other entry into a different game.

Oh, that is most certainly on purpose. A pretty common theme in anime lately is to have a little sister character who is in love with the Protag. However, usually the sister and bother are not 100% related. Might be a distant family member or just a childhood friend who views the Protag as a Big Bro. For all we know the MU in FE Fates could be like a 4th cousin who was adopted into the head family. Thus, making him fairly removed from the main bloodline.

@Mop it up

Did the Japanese version have the 'If' subtitle from the first announcement? I know for NA they just called it the 'next installment' of Fire Emblem. I put this in then and it wasn't until recently that we received confirmation of two versions in the west. And this is the first I heard of White and Black Kingdoms.

Anyway, I'll change this one to White Kingdom so you can repurpose yours.

Edit: Just saw this Iwata Asks was poster about this game. Nothing too surprising revealed. It's mostly about the fact that there's three games. How they created the story and whatnot. Makes me feel better about the multiple game aspect. It sounds like they will be pretty unique.
