Splatoon is Nintendo's unique twist on the shooter genre. Shoot ink on both your friends and environments to win the match! Players can turn into squids and 'swim' through their team's ink color. Players can also use their team's ink color to slow down enemy movement. It's ink or be inked in this chaotic marriage of third person shooters, de Blob, and good ole fashioned paintball.
@Hinph ..........is this good or bad? You tell me.
Sigh people really need to stop doing this shit. The Ryu reveal was (still awesome, but) completely ruined by those data mining fucks.
Edit: Sigh. Data mining fucks. I just had to read the final 2 maps didn't I. If true that last bit is pretty crazy little nugget of spoilery info. Don't click it. I wish I didn't. Already spoiled a really good surprise. Fuck.
@carlosrox Stupid as I am, I clicked even though I didn't really want to. But it seemed good. We've already heard about the levels and modes before, but I don't think we've gotten any details until now (but I didn't look at any details, 'cause I want some surprises). Good amount of content for the base game, IMO. Bring on the actual DLC! Free, please.
I too have poor impulse control when it comes to stuff like this and skimmed over it. It does certainly ruin some of the fun of what Nintendo was trying to do here with the slow drip of content.
It has also once again riled up the people who want all of the content right away and somehow think Nintendo is doing something shady here. I've always disagreed with those people, though, and I still think they are silly getting all upset over a non-issue.
I think it's awesome. The replay value is ridiculously high in this game with even basic shit. Feeling like I'm getting something new every week is damn awesome. MK8 coulda used some of that. Or even Smash.
Nothing like getting new content to make something feel fresh. I love the new Smash DLC. I think MK8 was too slow with it.
I forget where but I've seen that one stage with the various levels before. The other one was new but it's only a screenshot. Hopefully there's more beyond this on disc stuff planned.
Agreed. Essentially, all Nintendo is doing here is making us like kids waiting for the appropriate time to open up our presents... they are already paid for, wrapped, and hidden away in a closet somewhere, and some kids can't stand being forced to wait.
We, of course, just snuck in the closet and peeked. Oops.
@PogueSquadron I'm very much against locked on-disc content when I'm forced to pay for it. Rolling it out slowly for free in this particular game I'm fine with, though.
Worst content locking that's going on in Splatoon is the Amiibo challenges.
I appreciate how I'm able to learn and appreciate each level specifically with each roll out. My big question is WHAT HAPPENS AFTER DISC-BASED CONTENT?
Yup, no pay wall. It's more of a design decision to keep people from getting burnt out on everything the game has to offer after a week... keeps everybody excited and talking about the game too, which probably benefits sales for Nintendo, but I can't see anything shady about what they are doing.
You don't see people bitching because you can't do everything in Animal Crossing on the first day. It's the same basic principle here.
Every day that there's a new weapon or course I make a point of logging on and checking it out. It's a totally legitimate way of keeping the game interesting and synchronizing the way people play the content. It's not DLC, it's a curated experience.
What I don't understand is how you can take out ALL 4 guys with one of your Kraken deals, and the other 3 members of your team don't "move up" in the time that the other players have to return to base. Guys, I just took out of ALL of our competition -- what the heck are you doing back there??
I received this game for Fathers Day. I'm soooooo behind! I'm currently a level 5 and I'm starting to really grasp the concept of it all. So basically, I'm starting to become very addicted to the online play. You guys meet up randomly or is there a scheduled daily/weekly time?
Do you actually get a notification if one of your friends is currently playing? I see the Join a Friend option in the lobby but every time I have tried it, it just shows my friends list. It would be nice to at least show who's playing online like MK8 or Smash.
If you can join up with someone the box will be colored in and it will say joinable. Your friend has to be in a regular battle though.... they won't show up if they're messing around with equipment or playing single player or playing in a ranked battle.
