I gotta admit, this was completely unexpected. And totally awesome. A cross-over with two Mario spin-offs? What is crazy Nintendo up to nowadays? ...besides being awesome. Seriously, check this out. Who could honestly have said they saw this coming?

Hilarious! I'm in. For sure. Too bad we gotta wait until next year, but hey. Gives us something to look forward to. That's something, right?

I think Sticker Star was a neat concept and looked good but the concept breaks down once you realize that beating enemies doesn't really do much. So you end up skipping them as much as possible. The final gauntlet is a surprisingly raised difficulty curve and there was a section in the middle which stopped me in my tracks for so long that I lost interest. Eventually got back into it but the momentum was killed.

That's a shame, I guess I will probably give it a miss then.

PCLoad letter?

What the fuck does that mean?

I went into Sticker Star after everyone had already dumped on it so my expectations were properly adjusted. As a result, I had a great time with it. The sticker mechanic was exciting, the music and visuals were so good. Sure, it had pacing issues and some muddled problem solving but it was a brand new structure for the series. I found a lot to like.
Jus sayin'.

@warerare

It's worth a 10 spot, but certainly not full price.

@DrFinkelstein @warerare It's actually been around that price a few times as well, at least in the states. I think if you go in knowing what it is (and at a lower price), it might be a bit more enjoyable.

Agree that it's not worth full price. No way.

I thought Sticker Star was pretty good. Some corners of the internet are ridiculously hyperbolic (Other M level) about that game, but even though it's not Thousand-Year Door, it's a fun adventure in its own right. It almost feels like a RE-style resource management game mixed with truly devious puzzles. It's almost unfairly difficult at times, particularly the boss fights. There's not a ton of incentive for battling enemies, but I'm not sure there HAS to be. It's kinda cool having a very difficult adventure/puzzle title from Nintendo, with almost too little in the way of tutorials and outside help. Like their take on King's Quest, almost.

@rebonack

Agreed. I was ready to give up on it at the midpoint but I'm truly happy I continued on. I'm feeling no reMorse for having some internet help on the final gauntlet with how it is strictured. Saved myself a lot of unnecessary time.

Thanks guys. I will keep my eye out for an offer, I have Dream Team to play after Link Between Worlds so I have plenty to play as is.

I thought it was Paper *Jam.* Y'know, like...jelly or something. Paper reserves.

Like this:

Except, y'know. Paper. Instead of fruit.

I think Sticker Star is underrated (or perhaps just overhated), as well. Sure, it trivializes combat*, but so does Wind Waker, and everyone loves that!

* Granted, a weird design choice (one which hurt Super Paper Mario's reputation, as well).

It's so strange that Intelligent Systems messed with Paper Mario's battle system so much after The Thousand Year Door. Did they suddenly think that that system didn't work anymore?

Because I'm pretty sure it did.

I actually enjoyed Sticker Star more than I did Bowser's Inside Story. It wasn't perfect and some puzzles were a little too obtuse, and really I think they should have given us infinite inventory space for puzzle-solving stickers. But it was funny and had some great characters and locations.

Bowser's Inside Story was a very well-done game, but it's also when the M&L formula got stale for me. I actually DO think they should mess with the combat system more, because as it is right now, combat is a slog. Give us options to dispatch enemies more quickly. Avoid turning encounters and boss battles into endurance tests.

I really hope this game turns out well. I just hope the long drawn out battles are gone from the previous Mario & Luigi game. Although I did see a bit of that in the video. So I'll remain hopeful, but I won't be surprised if I don't end up loving this game.

@Guillaume, @gojira

Battles in a Mario & Luigi game?

06/23/15, 23:19
@Guillaume
Yeah, the limited inventory and trivialization of battle were the main problems. Most people complain about the lack of dialogue, though, which doesn't bother me at all.

Apparently it is coming this year in Europe. December 4th.

It's unclear whether NA will get it this year as well.

No idea how I missed the announcement of this game, but looks cool!

I'd still rather have another Thousand Year Door epic adventure, though. Mmm... Gamecube games... Those were the days... When Paper Marios were epic and Chibi Robos were also epic and not stupid freaking forced ridiculous unreasonably unnecessary sidescrollers.

What? I'm not bitter.
