Splatoon is Nintendo's unique twist on the shooter genre. Shoot ink on both your friends and environments to win the match! Players can turn into squids and 'swim' through their team's ink color. Players can also use their team's ink color to slow down enemy movement. It's ink or be inked in this chaotic marriage of third person shooters, de Blob, and good ole fashioned paintball.
Got my copy at Target along with the squirt gun. All sold out of Amiibos. Guess I'll give Amazon a try in about 5hrs.
I'm in the same boat. Roll that Amazon dice!
Man I think it's crazy that Nintendo still produces such tiny numbers of the non-Mario Amiibos. Seems like they'd want to have these Splatoon figures on shelves to help draw attention to Splatoon and increase sales. But I bet they only made 1 Amiibo for every 1,000 copies of the game they printed.
@cooliocuneo That sucks. I got off work at 10 today and went to Best Buy right away. I was pleasantly surprised to find a few new Amiibos. I got a Splatoon set and Pac Man and the only spare Wario they had. Not all of them, but more than I expected to be able to get.
Ok, the big thing I need Nintendo to adress right now is the matchmaking, 'cause being a team of lower level players against a bunch of people wielding the Aerospray RG or whatever it's called is close to pointless. Still fun, but almost pointless.
i played a few matches. I'm kinda going in blind, didn't even watch the Direct a few weeks ago i like it so far, even if i just got rekt a few times by people with rollers and Aerosprays. i also found some amiibo at GameStop, which was a nice change. Picked up Inkling Boy & Girl and a Silver Mario.
I miiiight get back on tonight after work tonight, but i've been trying to get back into MH4 lately, too...
This game's really enjoyable, though I'm definitely going to take it in small bursts for now so I don't quickly burn myself out playing the same maps over and over.
So great to hear the very positive impressions everywhere. I was really worried the game could be a bit of a flop critically.
Surely the response will push Nintendo towards new character based IPs in fleshed out worlds. This is what I've wanted since before Pikmin released (Pikmin isn't exactly what I was looking for, it doesn't feel as fleshed out as this). When I saw/see Pikmin I kinda think to myself that this doesn't hold the same appeal as something like Mario, Zelda, Splatoon, etc. I find something too indirect and impersonal about RTS style games. I always need something where I feel connected to the character.
Anyways, long story short, this is what I think of when I think of new Nintendo IP, not Pikmin. Nothing against Pikmin, it just doesn't have that connection with me personally (and I'm guessing many others) with the style and gameplay.
..Boss Fight?? I've only played Multiplayer, what the heck is going on.....
This game appears to be vividly shallow. Am I missing something? Boss Fight???? Doesn't help that I'm getting my butt handed to me everywhere. I do enjoy the roller though.
I played a few rounds of multiplayer to make it to level 3. A lot of fun, but I seem to always get on a team that's seriously overmatched against much higher level players. I've only been on the winning team once.
@Mr_Mustache To the right of the "ask for advice" dude is a grate. You enter it to go into the single player mode.
Doesn't help that I'm getting my butt handed to me everywhere.
It can't be both!
I think the gameplay is great, with lots of different ways to play and a pretty low barrier of entry (especially for a shooter). Would've liked more offline elements and bots for sure, but the core game is very strong. The half-hour or so I've put into the single-player adventure is well done too. Feels like a good action game.
